About this property

Aberdovey 1 mile. A delightful, detached cottage, a former entrance lodge to a country estate, with wonderful estuary views, on the outskirts of the seaside resort of Aberdovey. Full of character, with features including beams, slate flooring, the original bread oven, a woodburner, underfloor heating and original ornamental fireplaces in the bedrooms, this lovely Wales cottage has been sympathetically restored, and decorated with great style. With wonderful views from every room over the estuary and the sandy beach just one mile away, this is a delightful setting. Aberdovey has shops, tea rooms and pubs. Great days out can be had in Machynlleth, the Snowdonia National Park, or on the local steam railway. A perfect Aberdovey cottage to return to, whatever the time of year.

Renowned for its mild climate, sandy beaches, sailing and a championship 18-hole links golf course, the picturesque harbour village of Aberdovey is often referred to as "an artist's paradise". Packed with pastel coloured cottages, small shops, inns and excellent restaurants which specialise in local seafood, the settlement offers a cosy, relaxed atmosphere. Aberdovey boasts some of the finest beaches in Britain, including four miles of golden sand dunes running north to Tywyn - home of the world-famous Talyllyn Steam Railway. Popular with sunbathers, swimmers, surfers and fishermen, these beaches make a wonderful spot for a day trip, whilst the estuary attracts a wide range of water sports enthusiasts. The peaks of the Cader Idris and Aran Fawddwy ranges are also close by and offer a range of walks at different difficulty levels.

The lounge is cosy but sofas too upright and small to lounge on and be comfortable. The facilities in the Kitchen are limited with only 1 saucepan and a couple of frying pans. It makes staying at the cottage for periods of time during clement weather very difficult. The bathroom ceiling is covered in mould due to the obvious damp issues with the cottage. This is due to the age and location of the cottage. It doesn’t leave you feeling very clean after your morning shower. All this said we loved the location, the overall feel and welcome pack provided by the owner.

The layout is alright in the bedrooms, except for the lack of wardrobe space, where is only 1 small wardrobe, drawers small, and not for capable of holding much such as jumpers. The noise from the road, which is so bad, I do not think that drivers even notice there is a notice of a opening to a inside road. The main problem I have with this property, the stairs are very steep, and there is no hand rail, except for a rope of 2 inches wide, I nearly went down, and if I reached the bottom, I would have hit the wall. NOT GOOD. I am in my eighties, and was not aware of this problem. Kitchen very small and no proper saucepans available, 1 large, 3 lids in a draw. frying pan was not able to lay flat on top of cooker. Condition of property is slowly getting bad, windows not cleaned downstairs, and rubbish left at the back of property. I was looking forward to having this stay, but not now, we paid alot of money, for a house that looks good on the outside not on the inside. The people which did the decorating, needs some lessons. We left early, and hope that who goes in the house, feels better than us.

Very quiet at night, the view from the bedrooms is lovely and it's only 5 minutes drive into Aberdovey, we went every night for a walk before bed!. Would highly recommend.
