  • . Plumtree Cottage is in a peaceful spot on the edge of Abbotskerswell with rolling fields and woodland beyond. It is a large, south-facing, detached, family home, which has been decorated and furnished to a very high standard. The property is spacious and is ideal for family or friends to get together. It is set in 2 acres of enclosed garden with terraces and well-positioned seating to enjoy the sun all day. This is the perfect location for beach holidays, walking, cycling, birdwatching and surfing.

Abbotskerswell village has a good food pub, shop, café and church, mid-way between the edge of Dartmoor at Ashburton with local shops, cafés and restaurants, and the seaside resort of Torquay, which has a theatre, good shopping and harbour. There are 22 miles of coastline, cliffs, coves, beaches and walks to explore, with opportunities for surfing, swimming, diving, sailing, angling and to study the natural wildlife at leisure. Stunning views are to be seen just about everywhere across the bay, out over the English Channel, along the 40 miles of Lyme Bay to Portland Bill, or inland towards the tors of Dartmoor.

This is an ideal base from which to visit Dartmouth, Totnes, Exeter and Plymouth. Paignton with its zoo, steam railway and sandy beaches are worth a visit. Brixham makes a great day out with its fishing port or catch the boat from Torquay. Explore Totnes, an attractive old town on the River Dart, with river cruises to Dartmouth, where you can visit castles, go shopping or just take in the sights. For golf enthusiasts, a golf course can be found 1 mile away. Newton Abbot, an old market town, is 2 miles away. Discover National Trust castles at Compton, 3 miles and Berry Pomeroy. There are many other NT places to visit, including Greenway, Agatha Christie’s summer home. Explore Dartmoor, with its rocky tors, wild ponies, exquisite walks, horse riding, fishing, cycling, falconry and golf at Bovey Castle, an award-winning course. Don’t forget to stop for a cream tea in one of the many tea shops on Dartmoor. Within a few miles are the two picturesque villages of Chagford and Mortenhampstead, with historic inns, excellent pubs, tea rooms, curiosity shops, tennis courts and the Miniature Pony Centre. There is so much to do in this part of Devon, one visit will not be enough! Beach 4 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant ¼ mile.

"We had a really memorable family holiday at Plumtree Cottage. It was a great base to explore the Devon coast and countryside. Some amazing secret bays, Watcombe and Maidencombe, as well as Babbacombe, plus a little further away is Ness Cove with the Smugglers Tunnel. All great to enjoy the sea, sand and explore the rock pools too. The local Decoy Country Park was very enjoyable. The property is also close enough for a day to Dartmouth. A trip to the picturesque village of Cockington and the country park is highly recommended, with lunch at the wonderful Drum Inn. The house and facilities are as good, if not better than the photos depict. The gardens are very extensive and are secure for children and dogs to explore. A thoroughly enjoyable holiday at a great location with just about all of the facilities and amenities that you could want. Highly recommended!!"

"The house was spacious & well equipped with wonderful gardens. The location was great, everything within a 20 mile radius with majority of places being dog friendly.Would definitely recommend Plum Tree cottage to friends & family 😀"

"We loved our week at Plum Tree Cottage. It's a spacious and very well appointed house with beautiful gardens and was even better than it looked in the photos/description.It's well situated on the edge of Abbotskerswell so within walking distance of the local shop, café and pub but away from school traffic etc. The locals were friendly and very helpful, suggesting dog-friendly routes for walks along local footpaths and bridleways as well as options slightly further afield. The welcome hamper was wonderful (and greatly appreciated) including local produce and some excellent home-made chutney!"

"Absolutely fantastic house home from home.Enjoyed the huge garden.Villagers very friendly and helpfull.Looking forward to booking up again next year."

"Lovely comfortable cottage. Plenty of space for a large party with two tv rooms and a large kitchen diner. Garden was a joy and again lots of different spaces for sitting and playing if you have children or dogs with you. We found it odd that no heating in one of the en-suites!There is an electric cooker, which was something I hadn't noticed when reading property description, so that was a relief! Really well stocked kitchen. Bed we used very comfortable.Village shop was always busy, so we assumed well stocked, we only used it for papers. Whilst the weather wasn't particularly warm when we were there, we still managed to find warm spots to sit in garden for coffee and early evening drink. I would think on a really hot day you could easily pass the day at the property.Although all attractions in the area do require car journeys, we didn't find that too bad. Lots of NT places round the area and all worth a visit. Dawlish was quite pretty, but beach poor, same for Teignmouth beach."

"Lovely spacious well equipped property with a beautiful garden in a great location. However, for a 5* it lacked attention to detail in the areas of bathroom fittings, bed linen needs upgrading and grass cuttings not collected (walked into property).Overall we had a lovely family holiday with a warm welcome from the owners."
