"The house was clean and welcoming, and its location was perfect--in beautiful parkland within the Staunton Harold estate. Walking from the front door was first rate and the location was superb."

"In general the retreat was lovely, but it is very close to East Mids airport & the planes were an issue. There were things lacking in the property such as a dongle for internet connection, kindling for the fire, a leaky saucepan, wet cushions on the outside furniture (requires some storage to put them in), sharp knives especially bread knives, but it didn't spoil our time there."

"loved the peace and quiet in the woods, the tranquillity of the lodge, its fittings the log burner and the light."

"Absolutely loved the lodge. The set-up was perfect and it was very clean and cozy. The kitchen was amazingly well-equipped, better than any holiday cottage we have ever rented. Had everything we could possibly have needed. The grounds were brilliant, loved walking the dog and exploring the lake and the Harold Staunton estate. Only niggle was the many flights we could hear taking off and landing at East Midlands airport at all hours of the day and night (only stopped between 3 and 6 am), the first few nights we had difficulty sleeping because of the noise but we did get used to it eventually and we found ear plugs in the cupboard which helped too. It's just the location and nothing can be done about it. We were surprised how loud it actually was, but saying that, we loved Deerpark Lodge so much we would stay again. It was so perfect in every other way, and the woodsy detail was lovely and bets of all, we saw a fox every night right outside! and rabbits quite a bit too :) We loved and appreciated being able to bring our dog so much too."

"Enjoyed our stay, great location and fab for our four legged friend. Only issue we had were the planes during the day and late at night, but we were told that its not the norm and we were out alot of the time."

"Dear Rural Retreats We recently stayed at Deer Park Lodge. What a lovely lodge and peaceful idyllic setting, just what the doctor order for a complete chill out.We had a lovely time spent there, So peaceful and relaxing we didn't want to leave. The lodge was very well equipped everything was thought of, tastefully decorated throughout, and the log burner was great when the evening got a little chilly, the welcome hamper was so thoughtful too.Our springer spaniel Rossi loved the open space and loved the fact he could go on long walkies in such a quiet place no worries of other dogs and traffic around. We loved watching and listening to the wildlife in the area , we even had visits from the local bunnies and even got to see a kestrel. Thank you for a very enjoyable stay, we will be definitely returning."

"Everything neat and tidy however not everything was checked thoroughly - eg the lightbulbs in the bedside lights in the downstairs bedroom did not work and there were no replacements. The toilet door in the downstairs toilet didn't lock. Not really 5*. The lodge was left in a spotless condition before our departure so we were therefore shocked to receive a very curt, nasty phone call from the housekeeper to complain that the lodge had been left in a mess. He claimed that a cleaner had cut her fingers on a broken lightbulb in a bedroom bin - perhaps bin liners might have helped? His attitude was disgraceful. Never again would we stay there."

"Great cottage, well equipped though not keen on a tv up on the wall. Lovely location within the trees but very bad because under the flight path from the airport. The noise was extremely intrusive at all hours of the day and night and there was no hint or warning of this given in the brochure details. Dictionary definition of "retreat" is "a place ... to which one may retire for refuge, quiet, etc.""

"Our time at Deerpark Lodge was brilliant. Four days doesn't do it justice though but it was ideal for a short post Christmas and New Year "battery recharge ".The lodge was very good, clean and well equipped. Our only minor gripe is the wood fire heating which requires the wood burner to be lit every morning for heat and hot water and as it doesn't 'damp down' it's not possible to keep the fire in. However that's part of the fun but may be an issue for the more mature guests."

"We loved the lodge and the location, we and Bishop (the dog) were very relaxed as soon as we turned up. The only thing that we found unfair. As we booked to stay towards the end of the month, the 4G internet data limit had been used by other guest. We understand that the connection may be poor as it was out in the country but to not have data because we were last in is not fair."

"We have had the most fantastic break in the most beautiful surroundings, from every window the view was stunning and as we wanted to "get away from it all" the setting was perfect. We were lucky with the weather only had rain 1 morning , when we were fishing !!! Rosie and LuLu (the dogs) just loved being able to run in the field and I don't think they are impressed with our garden any more! The lodge was decorated beautifully and we just loved returning after a days fishing. The lake is stunning ,the only observation is it is very difficult to get to with fishing gear(next time can the fishing equipment be taken down by the quad bike please!!!!!!!!) we called it cardiac hill! We ended up going 5 minutes up the road to Springwood fisheries, not as beautiful as your lake but very easy fishing and no walking with gear up cardiac hill!!!! Anyway it didn't spoil it at all, we have been on holidays all over the world to some excellent hotels etc but this break is up there with the best of them. I actually cried when I had to leave!!!!!! Just loved it. Thanks again for your help before and for letting us enjoy your gorgeous retreat in the woods. Miss it already. AP, Hertfordshire"

"We have just arrived home from our lovely long weekend at Deerpark Lodge. The tiny details you covered to make our stay more comfortable were much appreciated. Thank you so much. The Estate is beautiful and we were lucky enough to enjoy it in the sunshine. We met Andrew and the runaway cattle all to the delight of my daughter and little Joshua. Thanks to you both for allowing us to share your special lodge. ES, Berkshire"

"We have had a fantastic holiday. Henry (6) really enjoyed feeding the pigs, seeing the lovely lambs and sledging. Baby William (2 months) enjoyed his first holiday with grandma and grandpa. Visited lots of excellent places. Recommend Snibston for younger children, also visited Shugborough and Sudbury. Excellent walks and bike rides from the doors. Woodburner works well when stacked up. Welcome hamper was excellent - Henry loved the Easter Egg - thank you! CB, Salisbury"
