About this property

Complimentary Welcome Hamper
A complimentary welcome hamper will be awaiting you on your arrival containing milk, tea, fresh coffee, bread, butter, eggs, juice, wine and cheese, along with other essential items to prepare a light snack or breakfast. There may be some regional variations.

S41512 is a beautiful 19th century semi-detached sandstone cottage, situated in a very quiet rural location between Hereford and Ross-on-Wye, both seven miles away. The cottage is a mile from the village of Hoarwithy which has a brilliant local pub (the New Harp Inn) situated next to the River Wye, which serves excellent food and local beers and also houses a small convenience shop.
This is a wonderful walking location with direct access to footpaths from the garden. Cycling can also be enjoyed by following the many bridleways and tracks in the area.
Monmouth lies 15 miles to the south with its wonderful castles, and white water canoeing is just 10 miles away at Symonds Yat. The Forest Of Dean is around 20 miles away, and has many attractions including cycling, mountain biking, walking, a steam railway, Hopewell Colliery Museum and Go-Ape. Just over the border the Brecon Beacons await. To the North West (50 minutes' drive) is the border town of Hay-on-Wye, famous for its Literature and Arts festival.
Places to visit within the area include:
Hereford Cathedral - A 20 minute drive from the property.
Goodrich Castle - seven miles from the property.
Four Foxes Vineyards - twenty miles from the property.
Monmouth - 15 miles south, has several castles and ruins.
The Forest of Dean - About 20 miles away. The area has many attractions including cycling, mountain biking, walking, a steam railway, Hopewell Colliery Museum and Go-Ape.

"Another wonderful stay at S41512. Christmas week was really special there and the welcome hamper put together by Lorell, the housekeeper, was greatly appreciated. I was also pleased to see that some of the issues raised in previous reviews at this house had been addressed."

"Lovely cottage, well equipped kitchen and an amazing hamper, nothing too much trouble, housekeeper was really helpful. Brilliant stay, hope to go back again lovely countryside and wildlife."

"The standard of the property was the best we have ever experienced - a gorgeous, well presented cottage. It was well appointed and spotlessly clean and you had everything you needed [which is rare in our experience] such as washing up liquid, brushes and cloths, tea, coffee and milk on arrival to a well a stocked wood pile for the wood burner. But the wow factor had to be the welcome hamper. Never seen anything like it - luxury cereal, biscuits, cake, wine, apple juice, bread, local cheeses and biscuits, preserves, ground coffee and a huge bowl of fresh fruit."

"Lovely cottage, really well equipped. Loved the welcome hamper, so many wonderful goodies! Would definitely go there again and explore more of the local countryside."
Confirmed Guest ‐ 27 Sep 2017
"Lovely warm cottage, plenty of wood for log burner, clean and very well equipped. Needs a steel to sharpen kitchen knives. Good location"
Confirmed Guest ‐ 25 Sep 2017
"The location was beautiful and very peaceful, with lovely outdoor spaces. Nice walks in the area. The kitchen was great and we spent a lot of time sitting in there after meals. The sitting room was quite spartan and not overly cosy. (It would probably have been better with the fire lit, but we didn't use it.)The bedrooms were lovely, but the bathroom was very tiny, allowing only one person at a time in there!"
Confirmed Guest ‐ 11 Sep 2017
"Clean comfortable well equipped cottage down 2 single track lanes. Bathroom sink a bit tiny resulting in water splashed everywhere. No shelves to put anything on in bathroom. Excellent welcome hamper."

"Been there several times - always a pleasure - peaceful and yet well located."

"The Oaks is a lovely property. Living room and kitchen are very comfortable and well equipped. The bed in the master bedroom is squeaky and not really acceptable for the price one pays for this property. Also, I didn't like the plastic under sheet. This is something I expect in a cheap chain of hotels. So the bed needs upgrading as soon as possible."
Confirmed Guest
"Lovely cottage and the house keeper left a birthday card and chocolates because I told her we were visiting for my mums birthday. The only things I would comment on were no bread in the welcome basket (seemed odd when marmalade and butter were available) and the wifi password was hard to find (it is on a plug in the dining area) - instructions need updating to reflect this). Overall stay excellent though."

"Lovely cottage, experience spoiled by dirt, widepread cobwebs and spiders suggesting very poor cleaning, black mouldy bath sealant, very creaky noisy bed springs."
Confirmed Guest
"Well presented on arrival, wonderful position- quiet and yet close to walks and a 20 minute walk to New Harp Inn for good food and beer."
Confirmed Guest
"The cottage was just perfect. Clean and to the quality we have come to expect from Snaptrip."

"Everything went well with the booking process. We have not been to the holiday home yet."
Confirmed Guest
"Cottage well appointed and comfortable, one disadvantage was complicated heating system - efficient but took considerable time to work out"
Confirmed Guest
"Must have missed all emails regarding where it was how to get there, why you cannot email details of where it is and the code for key safe amazes me Country Cottages can do! We were in Cornwall week prior not much phone signal, but sent text to your cleaner, why did she not text code or leave voice mail message? That caused last minute hassle not good when you are on holiday. OK so post code gets you there but if you read visitors book lots of people could not find, cannot see from road! Otherwise house/location very nice. But problem with New Harp Inn so food OK, but the dogs reign, I had shorts on quite hot weather, but had hassle from dog persistently licking back of my legs, after pushing dog away with my leg, owner becomes aware and quote "will take you out and smash your head in""
