    About this property

This 15th-century manor house, with its own pretty garden, has tremendous character, a friendly atmosphere and is extremely well furnished. The spacious beamed sitting room is set on the first floor to take full advantage of the wonderful coastal views. Attached to Manor Cottage (GAX) but completely self-contained, it enjoys a picturesque setting on the green, in the peaceful Cornish hamlet of West Pentire – only 300 yards down a cliff path from acres of clean golden sand (see Manor Cottage GAX). Children and adults alike can sample the delights of rock pool fishing, exploring caves or surfing. By hiring a pony it is possible to ride cross-country to the beaches of Porth Joke and Holywell, without the need to cross any roads. Set in the heart of National Trust land, the holiday property is surrounded by magnificent walking country, and is an ideal base from which to explore Cornwall’s splendid countryside and unique history as well as its magnificent coastline. The immediate area is renowned for its superb sandy surfing beaches, punctuated by craggy headlands. Perranporth (named after the patron saint of tin miners) is 10 miles to the south, famous for its drifting sands which have twice buried the church. Lifeguards patrol the wide sandy beach in summer, and surf boards and wet suits can be hired by the day. Further along is St Agnes with its superb coastal views, while to the south lies Truro, the unofficial capital of Cornwall, offering good shops and restaurants, a splendid cathedral and The Royal Cornwall Museum with extensive displays of the county. The historic and family friendly Bowgie Inn is adjacent and offers a wide selection of food as well as local beers and ciders, and sports fans can enjoy Sky coverage. A general store (open in season) can be found nearby, and Crantock village and its shops are only 1 mile away. The lively resort of Newquay, with its cliffs honeycombed by numerous caves, is 5 miles across the estuary to the north. Public swimming pool with slides at Hendra Caravan Club about 10 minutes’ drive. Shops 1 mile.

Attractive beamed dining room. Well-fitted kitchen with oak beams. Utility. Large twin bedroom with en-suite wet room and toilet (Jack and Jill, access also from utility). Bunk bedroom. First floor: Comfortable living room with wonderful coastal views . Large twin bedroom with en-suite bathroom and toilet. Double bedroom with en-suite shower room, toilet and balcony with sea view. Three further bedrooms, all with wash basins; two double and one single. Bathroom with toilet. Separate toilet. Close-carpeted throughout.

"A wonderful building great for our Ladies Weekend Away. Shame about paying separate for electricity. If a hot tub was added it would be perfect. Had a great weekend away. Thank you."
    Jaris ‐ 28 Sep 2018
"We had a brilliant time. The Manor House is stunning, amazing views over the sea, right by the Bowgie Inn which does good food and close enough to Newquay to be able to get food, vets and even more beaches. The dogs really enjoyed being so close to them and ran and ran!"
    Tessa ‐ 21 Sep 2018
"Excellent, comfortable, homely accommodation with lovely enclosed garden. Great location near coast path, 2 beaches, a pub and bistro. Ideal for families and all ages!"

"Excellent place for large groups. Full of character, lovely view and homely."

"Great house for a group holiday. Arrived before time, but was welcomed by Tracey and Paul. Mixture of rooms and bathrooms ideal for our family (6 adults, 4 children). Lounge, kitchen and dining room good size, with excellent views from lounge. An excellent week, despite the weather."
    Esther ‐ 29 Sep 2017
"Amazing location and very well equiped house. The property is old and therefore has a bit of a damp smell."
    Barbara ‐ 8 Sep 2017
"The Manor house is a full of charm and character, a lovely place to spend a family holiday. Well equipped , clean and comfortable. Friendly staff to greet on arrival, with lots of literature of things to do. Would definitely go there again."

"An amazing place to stay, very comfortable for our family holiday of 10. We would highly recommend and return to the Manor House."
    Neil ‐ 11 Aug 2017
"Excellent location. Clean, comfortable. Meeting with the caretaker on arrival was easy - she was flexible when we were delayed by traffic. We all had an excellent week.We found the requirement to buy electricity a bit of an imposition, although we knew in advance. Those cooking in our group found kitchen equipment was not quite enough when catering for 13. Too many instructions/requirements fom the ownerposted on the walls! Such instructions could have been in the welcome folder."
"We stayed at The Manor House in May 2017 with a group of family and friends and our three dogs. We have stayed in Crantock dozens of times but chose The Manor house this time to accommodate a large group to celebrate a wedding at St. Carantoc (the gorgeous, ancient and friendly Church nearby). Frankly, I almost don't want to review it because I want to keep it a secret. We booked for the same time next year on the day we left! The house is delightful and quirky. The beds are comfortable (immaculate linen), the kitchen well appointed, the bathrooms well fitted. I have no idea why previous reviewers moan about electricity costs - eleven of us, showering daily, running the washing machine and the dishwasher - etc. was something like £50 for the week - great value we thought. Downstairs has beams which left their mark on all the taller people in our party but that was a small price to pay for such a wealth of loveliness. The views of the sea from the (fully enclosed and beautiful garden) and from the sitting room and balconied bedroom are to die for. The dog friendly beaches on either side of the house are stunning, CBay's bistro across the road serves great food. Kids surfed, dogs chased waves, grannies admired the views and ate cream teas at The Cosy Nook in Crantock. From 85 to 24 all declared it 'paradise' and is."
"Fantastic time at the Manor House. Great location, we'll definitely be back!"
"We recently stayed easter holidays 2017. I would recommend the Manor House to everyone. It's a clean and spacious house and offers all that you need and a lovley safe garden for the children and dogs to play in. Perfect location with a pub and cafe next door, which both serve great food. There is an Ideal five minute walks to two beautiful beaches with the children and dogs and if your feeling more energetic you can walk the costal path to holywell bay.We loved our holiday so much that we have rebooked to go back in october."
"The Manor House is a beautiful property, in a lovely location. There is plenty of space and the beds are comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped I don't think you could ask for more. If I had to make a comment, the property is very warm and not very controllable, also the electricity is very expensive but I would definitely stay there again."
"This was just perfect for us. 7 of 10 of our guests were friends from Germany. They were so impressed often saying 'wow'. A generous house with charm and character. The kitchen is well equipped and well able to cope with cooking for a large number of people. The house gardens are really nice.A wonderful location for walks and proximity to some incredible coves. A splendid view from the lounge. On the last day we sat in the lounge and reflected on how much we would mis all this and miss the view. We would definitely consider come into back."
"A lovely homely, well equipped family house in a fantastic location. The garden is ideal for children and relaxed lunches between visits to the beach."
"Lovely house and location for a family with younger children but for a party of all adults the variation in the standards, size and comfort of the bedrooms was too vast. From beautiful en-suite bedrooms (3) to very cramped rooms where you have to take turns to walk around a double bed."
"Superb property full of character. Fabulous place."
    "Wounderful house, beautiful out look."
"The Manor House is located in a wonderful location. It has a great ocean view, it's within steps of a very good pub-restaurant with an extensive menu, and its central to most places one would want to visit in Cornwall. In addition, it provides easy access and its own good-sized parking area. It provides a variety of bedroom sizes and beds and its lounge is big and comfortable, all accommodating our group of 11 with big and little kids. The kitchen is well provisioned. It's only problem is the low ceilings on the ground floor and the low bridge door from the stairs to the lounge can be a head banging experience. We would definitely stay there again if we had a large group."
"This is our eighth holiday at the Manor House and we really can't better it as a comfortable house in a perfect location! It suits a range of ages (as well as our dogs) and we have welcomed the improvements that have been made over the years without itloosing the homely feel."
"Great house in a fantastic location on a headland between two beaches one of which has lifeguards in the summer."
"We had a fantastic time. The house was used as a central point for close family during our weeks stay as me and my partner got married in Newquay. As we had everyone together the house has left fond memories. The location was perfect. Only a short distance from Newquay. The view from the lounge is breath-taking. We hope to come back next year to celebrate our 1 year anniversary."
"Amazing house with a fantastic view. Our part size was 13 and a baby. As we expected, Electricity cost us about £90 for the Christmas week in December 2015 with quite mild temps outside but we had plenty of hot water, did plenty of cooking in the electric double oven and were all warm and cosy inside. The only reason for a 9 and not a 10 in terms of 'comfort and equipment' was that we would have loved an open, wood burning fire and more powerful Wifi reach, this would have made the Manor House absolutely perfect! The kitchen was easy to use by a lot of cooks and helpers and eaters at the same time! The ceiling on the ground floor dining room is extremely low so beware anybody over 5ft 8inches tall!We feel extremely lucky to have had the pleasure of staying in a very comfortable authentic old cornish house and thank the owners very much for sharing."
"Our fourth visit so obviously pleased with it. It would be good to have separate recycling boxes as at home."
"To heat this house would cost you the holiday again. The heaters use far to much electric this should be excluded in the price of the holiday. The double beds are not enough and in the wrong rooms we ended up sleeping in single beds as the rooms with double beds were just to small. Apart from that a lovely house and enjoyed our stay."
"Our 6th visit to the Manor House with the family. A lovely homely house in a fantastic location. We were very lucky with the weather and able to spend our time playing on the beach, surfing and walking. Cars hardly used all week."
"Lovely house. Perfect situation. But the heating is controlled by the owner, via te Web so there is no simple way to warm up a room or turn off unnecessary radiators. And the electricity is on a pre-pay meter - not a biggy, but until you've been there a couple of days, you don't know how long £10 lasts. And when the electricity goes off, the cooker won't work until you've rest the clock.Minor niggles. Would have happily paid another £100 for the place with electricty thrown in and heating controls in the house."
"We had a wonderful holiday staying at Manor House. It's in a perfect location and the house is wonderful with everything you could wish for. The kitchen was fully equipped, the beds were very comfortable, the gardens were beautiful. We couldn't have wished for more, in fact we said we could all quite happily live there! Would thoroughly recommend it. Thank you."
"A family of thirteen we had to stay this particular week due to school holidays and there lies the reason for the 5/10 score on value for money because if we had booked a week before or after it would have been £ 1000 cheaper. Other than that we were impressed by everything else except parts of the house could be cold and we reticent to put the heating on due to cost however as we were leaving workmen arrived with new, efficient radiators so looks like the company has listened to previous comments."
    "Brilliant House, Great Location!"
"The house is in a wonderful location but was quite dark inside with very low ceilings especially downstairs. The electric meter proved expensive."
"This was our second New Year visit; we re-booked because we enjoyed it so much the first time!"
"best holiday ever .please thank every body and will see you next year."

"Excellent location for families and pets. No need to drive to beach which is ideal in school holidays. Separate bedroom areas for different groups within family. Use of leisure facilities at Crantock Hotel bonus. Quirky and relaxing house and garden. Believe these are new owners, don’t change house too much. Not for tall people. July 2011."

"Excellent location. The very best thing about this property is its location and access to beaches and coastal path. The garden was superb. The house was somewhat quaint and rambling but obviously had some history. My tall children suffered somewhat from the low ceilings, but the ability to accommodate our whole family around a single dining table was good, as was the upstairs sitting room with a view. It has all the facilities we needed. July 2009. "
