    About this property

This spacious, detached holiday home lies between lively Clacton-on-Sea, and the peaceful avenues of Holland-on-Sea, approximately 200 yards from the beach, and just a mile from Clacton Pier, with its rides, amusements, go karting and 10 pin bowling. Clacton town centre has numerous pubs, eateries, a cinema and shops. There are two fantastic theatres, hosting a variety of shows with celebrities and musicians throughout the year, and traditional pantomines at Christmas. The pier is the focal point for the annual airshow in August, and has regular firework displays on Sundays throughout the summer and autumn. It also hosts the Christmas day swim, where up to a hundred hardy souls, many in fancy dress, plunge into the sea for charity. It is well worth watching, you need to be very brave to join in! There are four golf courses within 5 miles, fishing is popular from the beaches and the pier, and there are several opportunites for bird watching nearby. You can drive, cycle or walk along the coast to nearby Frinton and Walton with their fantastic beaches and unique charm. Throughout the summer months, you can take a two hour guided boat trip around the backwaters to see many species of sea birds, and a colony of up to 100 grey seals. Further afield, visit Colchester, Britain’s oldest recorded town, with it’s castle and world famous zoo. Local towns such as St Osyth, Brightlingsea and Wivenhoe are all well worth a visit. Constable Country is on your doorstep, with fantastic walks along the river Stour and rowing at Dedham and Flatford. Whether you have had a fun time on the beach or exploring the local area, what better way to end the day than relaxing in the warm bubbles of the hot tub. Shop and restaurant ½ mile, pub 1 mile.

Ground floor: Living room with wooden floor. Dining room with French doors and wooden floor. Kitchen with wooden floor. First floor: 4 bedrooms: 2 double, 2 single. Bathroom with shower over bath and toilet. Separate toilet.

Gas CH, elec, bed linen and towels inc. T/cot and highchair. 42" satellite TV. DVD. iPod dock. Elec cooker. M/wave. W/machine. D/washer. F/freezer. Wi-fi. "A lovely base to stay and for dog walks. Good size living areas downstairs and a big kitchen. Two large size double bedrooms and two single rooms (not used) Two Sky boxes in the downstairs rooms to cover most of the basic channels you'll need. Property mainly let down but the poor parking. Driveway is totally useless, too small and needs to be much wider. We only managed to park safely on the road outside of the property from the Mon-Thurs. (Billed as two car spaces well only if you have micro cars. Front room sofa and one chair totally in need of replacing / or putting in more support very uncomfortable. For anyone with mobility issues large front step and back. No downstairs toilet but two upstairs. Microwave didn't work and reported Sat replaced with another old one Monday which helped a lot as the oven / hob was awful to use.Two hook hangers in the hall (both only fit to hang dog leads on as loose) some hooks under the stairs for coats but door to this area had a small catch so not ideal to use often. Back garden good size although three fence panels were in need of repair, garden overgrown and needed work.Hot Tub nice but very noisy and some jets not working, would be better enclosed in a Conservatory to reduce noise and heat lost. Overall we loved the base and the property with a bit of work could easily be made up to a 10 in no time, it seemed a tired property awaiting an upgrade but we still loved it as did the dogs. Off road parking / driveway needs to be wider is the urgent task and front room sofa replaced. Guests won't like the cooker oven/hob (takes ages to cook anything) and the place needs a better microwave (although the one brought in Mon got us by) and definately needs a stand alone mini oven."

"We loved our holiday it was comfortable, clean and there was everything we needed there. We would definitely go there again in fact this was our second time there."

"I spoke to the owner to arrange arrival and he seemed very friendly and approachable. We arrived to find some lovely welcome treats and the house was very clean and well equipped. Everybody enjoyed the hot tub and the garden was of ample size for children to play. There is a green nearby which is suitable for dog walking, with the beach at the end of the road. Perfect family get away. The Owner was also really helpful in letting us know we had left several items and posted them on to us. Fabulous break all round."

"Great Host (Richard) and Lovely Spacious Accommodation.Furnishings and bedding dated but that was fine.2 Lounges both with 42" Tvs, Blu-Ray Players (With great assortment of Films), Sky HD boxes and one lounge with Xbox360 and games. Great for a a family. We took dogs so enclosed Garden was great.Only reasons we would not go again is that even though beach was very close the dogs were not allowed on it so needed to travel a few miles to find somewhere and also not much in Calcton for our 16 and 18 years olds to do."

"very nice cottage, recomend to everyone!!"
    Linda ‐ 6 Jul 2018
"This was our 3rd visit which must speak for itself. Richard is very accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. Nice welcome pack too. It's nice and close to a park for dogs to exercise and very handy for the beach. The 2nd lounge was a god send with 2 families one of which was a toddler. Hope to come back soonn as every time the weather has been amazing. Can't beat the UK when the weather outside is great . A bigger driveway would be a big plus."

"Lovely house, had everything we needed for our stay. Nothing really within walking distance for older or younger guests but that didn’t bother us. Lovely garden too."
    Amber ‐ 16 Apr 2018
"Lovely house with everything you need! Owner was friendly and helpful. Steered us to some fab restaurants! Welcome prosseco was much appreciated. Location central to everything! Our westie Tess loved the garden and the hot tub was welcoming after a day of exploring. Looking forward to our next stay!"

"Definitely a little gem, lovely house very spacious with big comfortable bedrooms everything was there that I could of wanted and more. My dog loved the big garden and I more then loved the hot tub. Great welcome pack from the owner which was a nice touch. Beach minutes away and a local dog park. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and will be booking to stay again"

"2nd stay at sea shell house. Home from home - perfect location and great for dog walls."
    Susan ‐ 20 Nov 2017
"We had a great weekend, walks on the beach and down to clacton. The house is perfect in every way and the owner Richard was really lovely and friendly. The beds are to die for, so comfy. Missy the dog loved the fully enclosed garden. Will definitely book again."
    Tammy ‐ 30 Oct 2017
"Fantastic house in a great location. Owner was lovely. A beautiful welcome pack in the house on arrival and we loved the hot tub. The only downside was that the sofas in the living room really need replacing or at very least new foam in the seat cushions as they were very uncomfortable"
    Mary ‐ 13 Oct 2017
"Very nice house, well equipped and tastefully decorated. Brilliant for weeks break plus dog loved it. Very near beach and park. Delightful owners."
    John ‐ 22 Sep 2017
"The above marks are based on our own experiences. Our overall rating would have been 10 if there had been a downstairs toilet, and a walk-in shower. We knew there wasn't a downstairs toilet before we booked, but for older people such as ourselves, it could be an issue. Also, the bath was particularly high sided, which made getting in and out of the shower a bit of a trial!Apart from those two things, the house was very well equipped, very clean, and comfortable to stay in.There is a hot tub which we didn't use, but I can imagine this would be a great bonus in the summer months. We'd like to thank the owner for the generous welcome pack, and his help and advice on places to eat and drink."

"It was a great house in a very good location, loved the hot tub and the dogs loved the garden. We where shown great hospitality from Richard the owner, I would recommend this to anyone especially those who have dogs."
    Belinda
"Everything you needed was there . The hot tub was so great and easy to use . Town and beach within walking distance . Will definitely be staying there again. A great base for our family from around there to visit a really large garden for my two large labradors . And plenty of seating space the only thing that would make it exceptional is a downstairs toilet for the oldies and newly potty trained ."
    Linda
"This is the 2nd time we have stayed at Sea Shell and we were not disappointed. This time instead of just the two of us and the dog, my daughter and son in law and the baby and their dog came for 6 days and my son for the weekend. There was plenty of room for all of us and the separate lounge/dining room was great for all the baby's toys etc and also gave us time apart. Once again i removed one of the gates as the car sensors hated it, but there was plenty of room in the road for 2 extra cars. The garden is a great space with the hot tub, which we did not get around to using, but the trees and shrubs could do with a good cutting back, but that is the gardner coming out in me. I would certainly recommend this property and we love the closeness of the park for the dogs and the beach for walks."
    Nigel
"We had a great time staying at Sea Shell House. The nearby park was ideal for walking the dogs as was the fact the beach was at the end of the road and we could still take the dogs on it up until May. The hot tub was a real bonus and the property was ideally placed for us as my son lives about 5 minutes away. We will definitely be booking this property again."
    Susie
"Great house - a definite home from home. We were able to entertain family with no problems as everything we needed was there. The secure garden gave piece of mind for us for the dog and the location is perfect.A welcome pack was a nive touch too. We are already planning our next booking!"
    Susan
"This is a lovely warm well equipped house, comfortable beds and furnished to a good standard. Our dogs loved the garden, there is a great park to excercise the dogs only a few metres from the house and a few mins walk to a brilliant beach and cafe. The owner was there to greet us and made us feel very welcomed. We only stayed for a long weekend but he left a very generous welcome pack. Overall we had a brilliant few days and would definitely return."
    Sarah
"A lovely house and very well equipped and comfortable. We felt very welcome and had a lovely weekend, we would recommend it as a place to stay."
    Keith
"An excellent house that suited our purpose of a quiet weekend. The local area is about 200 meters from th sea and during the winter months dogs are allowed on the beach. The house had a new hot tub which was a bonusDownsideBoth toilets are upstairs unlike a more modern house and the water pressure drops alarmingly when another tap or shower is turned on or the toilet is flushed. An annoyance when 2 people are in residence but a source of concern with a family I imagine UpsideSpacious, great garden, dog friendly a fantastic owner and host, great entertainment package including SKY in both downstairs rooms. Parking is easy for 1 carand there is good off street parking. Washing machine tumble dryer and dishwasher are all nearly newRecommended"
    Andy
"Nice house in a good location close to the sea and a fish and chip shop. Well equipped and comfortable with an enclosed rear garden, which was great for the dogs."
    Mike
"Property contains all that is needed for a pleasant stay. Great welcome pack. Short drive to Clacton and brief walk to park for dogs and the beach for adults."
    Sheila
"This cottage was brilliant we had everything we needed, it was spotless and so comfortable and we would love to go back next year."
    Tracy
"An absolutely fantastic house. With everything you possibly want in it. A lovely propritier. ... Brilliant"
    Joan
"Lovely comfortable holiday home in quiet location yet close to the sea front. Thoughtful owner has provided everything you could need - a real home from home. Good quality equipment, bed linen, towels etc. Although not mentioned in the listing, there is a second large flat screen TV with Sky package, plus an Xbox, in the dining room (which also has sofa and easy chair) - a boon with teenagers in the family. Peaceful garden with excellent furniture and hot tub - much enjoyed by everyone! Clacton is just a short bus ride - or land train - away with all the usual seaside attractions, lots of eateries and a bustling high street. Highly recommended."

"This was our second visit to the area and this was the best accommodation we have stayed in. It was nice to be met by the owner Mr Dove who showed us around and made sure we knew where everything was. Also the best welcome pack and something for our dog, which was very thoughtful. This was well worth the money we paid, our only adverse comment was that the sofas and one chair were not as firm as we like them to be, however the bed in the front bedroom was extremely comfortable. If you drive a larger vehicle then parking on the front drive could be an issue, as it was a tight squeeze for my Focus. Its a great location for visiting the area and is very close to the sea front which has some good doggy walking parks en-route. We would stay again if in the area."
    Gillian
"Wonderful relaxing holiday, a home from home. Everything needed was provided and aimed at the visitors for that week. We had a cot, high chair and baby towel and the beautiful garden is completely safe for children. The hot tub was frequently used and added to the enjoyment of the holiday. Nearby, a beautiful beach, park, corner shop and fish and chip shop and a comfortable walk takes you to the pier. Can't say too much about the surrounding area as we didn't move very far...no need."

"Great property, we were four old school friends in our 40's on a reunion trip, we found something to do in the area every day. Would definitely come back."

"Fantastic property, great location and very helpful and friendly owner."
    Lili
"The Sea Shell House is very conveniently located. Close to the beach and half a mile from town centre. Comfortable surroundings and we had nice time there. Many thanks! We shall definitely book it again in the future."
    Fay
"Seashell house is a fabulously well equipped house in an ideal position for the seafront. The hot tub is a real bonus. The welcome pack was most welcome, thank you."
    Jacqueline
"Sea Shell House ticked all the boxes for our family. Having a separate dining room and lounge (both with sky tv) was perfect for us although the sofa and armchairs could do with a bit more padding. However, the location (right near the beach and park) was ideal and the big enclosed garden a bonus. This is a very spacious property with a filled in straight carpeted staircase and handrail - the description did not mention this but for us was a "must". Very spacious bedrooms and bathroom with a separate loo - no downstairs toilet. Sadly we did not have time to make use of the hot tub but will next time as we will definitely be returning. With family in the area it made a great base."
    Jenni
"Really lovely big and well stocked house, very friendly owner who met us there and went through everything we needed to know. He also provided a very generous welcome pack, even fresh roses! It was great fun having a hot tub in a pretty enclosed garden. The lovely sandy beach was only 5 mins walk away where there was a super little cafe serving hot food as well as ice creams. We enjoyed Clacton and the theatre, pier and good walks. There is a park only 2 mins away which is great for a local dog walk and also a well stocked convenience store and fish and chip shop also within a short walking distance."
    Pauline
"Holiday cottage was very good. Clean, well equipped and welcoming. Hot tub was brilliant.Owners were informative and approachable at all times but not at all intrusive. Welcome pack was a nice touch. Should we ever stay in Essex again we would have no hesitation in booking this property. again."
    Michael
"Really comfortable cottage with all mod cons. Great welcome pack including treats for dogs. Really handy for beach and sea front. We all had a really enjoyable week and would definitely stay here again."
