    About this property

Just 5 miles from Northumberland’s beautiful and rugged coastline, peppered with sleepy fishing villages, majestic castles and sandy coves, this spacious single-storey barn conversion provides a charming holiday base for large family gatherings. Adjoining the owners’ home in the conservation village of Longhirst, it has been furnished to a high standard and retains many period features.
There are all sorts of nooks and crannies to explore; push open the bookcase in the living room and you will find yourself in a ‘secret’ games room with pool table – sure to delight the whole family, and provide entertainment whatever the weather. Apple trees line the large front garden, and there is shared use of half an acre of enclosed lawned garden to the side of the property, as well as sole use of a pretty courtyard garden complete with fish pond. Ideally situated for exploring this varied region, yet with local amenities close at hand. Morpeth is 3 miles away and has a bar and restaurant. Shops 2 miles.

Spacious living room with wood-burning stove, beautiful feature brick fireplace (with beam above) and patio doors to courtyard. Wood-panelled games room with pool table (accessed via ‘secret bookcase’ in living room). Second sitting-room with ‘living-flame’ gas fire. Spacious dining room with period furniture and exposed brick wall. Farmhouse-style kitchen with quarry-tiled floor. Utility. Separate toilet. Conservatory with views over courtyard. Five bedrooms: Double bedroom with seating area with sofas, TV and en-suite bathroom with separate shower cubicle and toilet. Second double bedroom with 5ft bed and sofa-bed (for +1). Twin bedroom. Third double bedroom leading to corridor with access to shower room with bidet and toilet, and second twin bedroom with double sofa-bed (for +2) and private entrance also from courtyard. "A lovely property in an excellent location, perfect for our Great North Run weekend (approx. 30 mins from Newcastle/South Shields). Overall the property was very spacious and well laid out with plenty of seating areas, an excellent dining area and 3 good bathrooms - all essential for our party of 13. The only thing I would say is that the kitchen is quite small with only a regular sized cooker/oven which meant a bit of a juggling act when we were cooking for so many, however, the kitchen was well equipped and had the benefit of good sized pans and plenty of serving dishes so we managed fine. Another positive was the large American fridge - so plenty of space for drinks as well as the food! The hidden games room was brilliant. We would not hesitate to stay again. A hot tub in that lovely inner courtyard would be a bonus to sooth our weary legs after the run!"
"Great cottage for a large group or family. Lots of space, well equipped and beautifully clean."
"An excellent house for our party of ten with comfortable beds, lots of space and plenty to occupy the children. The location was good for visits to Holy Island, Alnwick and the Roman Wall in addition to nearby beaches. The only thing preventing scores of 10 was the slow oven which took ages to cook sausages, oven ready chips and pizzas."
"We spent 7 nights with family and friends. There was plenty of space for adults and kids. We all had a lit of fun playing pool. Rooms are big and very well decorated. I would recommend this cottage and visit again. "

"This property was perfect for our family holiday (10 of us) and in a great location - not far to the beaches and only half an hour or so drive up to Alnwick, Bamburgh etc. Barnacre had all the amenities we needed and plenty of space to spread out. Everyone loved the pool room and its secret location! We all had a fabulous holiday and would definitely recommend it to friends and family, and hopefully visit again when we’re holidaying in Northumberland. August 2012."

"Excellent property and ideal for our party, 3 families made up of 6 adults and 7 children. Everything we needed was in the house and lots of space for the children and adults. Location was great as well. Feb 2012."

"This is a wonderful property in a delightful small Northumberland village. The owners who occupy the property next door could not have been more helpful. They struck the perfect balance between help and allowing us privacy. The house was ideal for our party of three families and ages from 65 down to 3 months. Family friendly and of particular interest to us, autism friendly providing scope to move around, but with safety and security. June 2011. "

"Barnacre was ideal for our family reunion. There was ample space for us all to do what we wanted individually and not be "in each others pockets." The table tennis in the Garage and the "hidden" pool room went down a treat. May 2010."

"Excellent. Very comfortable. Very well equipped. Lovely rooms. Lots of space. There were 11 of us staying at Barnacre and it was an ideal base for our holiday. We all rated it very highly. April 2010."

"Northumbia is a less well known jewel of England and was a great revelation to our French friends with whom we holidayed. Good use made of old farm buildings to provide a high standard of accommodation for a large party. Aug 2009."
