"We booked ship shape on a whim and are so glad we did. The cottage was beautifully clean and we loved it's quirky design. The stairs are very steep but this was ok for our family. The two single beds are downstairs so my husband and I ended up sleeping in them instead of the double bed. Our children are 10 and 5 so I wouldn't have felt comfortable with them sleeping downstairs on their own. However, this did not affect our experience and we had a brilliant few days. I would highly recommend ship shape if you are looking to book a cottage."

"We even had sunshine! The beach is super, sea views from all rooms. The street has friendly pubs and great value take away food - although there are food stores next door. Had a wonderful time"

"ship shape is in a excellent position central to New Biggin the sea cafes and shops are within a few seconds walk. the is a fantastic beach again a few second walk. The property itself is in excellent condition and we were very pleased with it."

"Ship Shape is a delightful cottage, small and upside-down but comfortable with all the equipment we needed. Clear instructions from the owner for arrival and friendly communications. Perfectly located for dog walks (and very clear on the beaches where to avoid in peak season), the pubs and eateries were friendly and the Co-Op across the road was super-convenient. We enjoyed Chinese and pizza takeaways. Great base for exploring the area too - we drove the coastal road up to Seahouses (a bit like Great Yarmouth but better rock pools!) and drove back via Alnwick (pronounced Annick if you're from the south like us!) catching sight of the Harry Potter castle. Short journey for a trip to the quayside in Newcastle; there really was nothing to complain about. Thank you; we'll be back."

"Really quirky little cottage but unfortunately it had a lot of negatives. Plenty of room for four people with two good sized bedrooms and two bathrooms, however the living space is tiny. Small microwave, absolutely no space to prepare food ( so much so that the toaster was in a cupboard!) And my absolute pet hate; two tumblers, two wine glasses, four spoons etc.By far the worst aspect of our stay was the noise. The windows are so ineffective that it sounds like they are permanently open. The pub across the road had karaoke till 12am, and we could hear every word as if we were in the same room. The cottage is on a corner and heavy lorries we’re driving past at speed all night. The gate where you can park you car, does not properly close, so not only is your car not secure but the gate bangs loudly every few minutes all night! I would advise that unless you are one of those rare people who can survive on two hours sleep, this cottage is not for you. We booked for three nights, but came home after one."

"Absolutely nothing wrong with the cottage really and the location is great, specifically the access to the beach being just across the road. The fault is with the windows....whether open or closed they let in the same amount of noise and, being on the main street through town, constant noise of cars, etc during the day. This is bearable, but the pub across the road has karaoke night, music nights, etc which may as well be playing in the cottage until midnight. No chance of relaxing or sleeping. Every night there are youths skateboarding on the bandstand across the road, usually from midnight to 1.30am. This persistent noise has resulted in little sleep and, in all honestly, in need of a holiday!! The cottage is great however, though the downstairs bedroom smells very damp from the en-suite shower, and the town of Newbiggin itself is lovely....pick a different café each day! The big plus is the beach which is very expansive and, even with 7 days of sun, was frequently only with the 4 of us visiting it...a private beach. Sorry for the negatives, it's a quirky cottage that I wanted to pick up and put somewhere else, but if you want to sleep and unwind this is not the place for you."

"Great location with lovely sea views!"

"Ship Shape is exactly as described and is an imaginative use of small space that demands a quirky layout. The position on the main street with clear seaviews and 'The Couple' along with all amenities is tempered by the hustle and bustle of a busy thoroughfare. We are glad we booked Ship Shape and would do so again."

"A good base to explore the terrific Northumbrian coast line. The area around Newbiggin-by-the sea is full of natural, open countryside and the villages and towns make interesting visits. There is an ample supply of eateries in Newbiggin, not high end but good value nevertheless. The cottage does have a combi oven, which we didn't use, but if you intend taking any pre-made dishes bear in mind that it is only standard microwave size. The beds were comfy and the layout of the cottage made it a comfortable, relaxing stay - plus I have the story of having possibly shared the same bedroom as Hayley Cropper from Coronation Street, albeit several years apart!"

"We had a good break and Ship Shape provided a practical base to explore the Northumberland coast and surrounding areas."
