About this property

This single-storey barn conversion is situated on a working livestock farm, just under a mile from the picturesque village of Hawkshead and six miles from Ambleside. With spectacular views over the fields to the pretty Esthwaite Water, this wonderful cottage is a firm favourite for couples or families at any time of the year. Enter this welcoming cottage and you will find a real gem as you discover the light and airy open plan living area, which has feature beams and a delightful sitting area with soft and cosy leather sofas, alongside a modern kitchen. Set all on the ground floor, it is just a short stroll at bedtime to reach the two bedrooms and the luxurious shower room, where you will find many extra touches such as cosy robes, slippers and toiletries, which have been generously supplied by the owner to ensure that your stay is nothing less than perfect. Outside, at the rear of the cottage, is a lovely patio area with your very own private hot tub, perfect for chilling out after a hard day's walking, whilst at the front is another patio which boasts fantastic views down to Esthwaite Water; an ideal spot to sit back and enjoy the peaceful and tranquil landscape. Esthwaite Water has been known to be frequented by osprey that have no doubt been attracted by the pike and trout in the lake, as are fishermen who can fish on the lake by arrangement with the owner. Just a ten minute stroll will take you into the charming village of Hawkshead with its colourful mix of quaint, cobbled yards, whitewashed cottages and interesting shops and cafes to explore. The Grizedale Forest is on the doorstep and the Visitor Centre with the tree top adventure course is just 10 minutes' drive away. With beautiful paths right from the door leading you through Hawkshead towards Tarn Hows and the delightful Drunken Duck pub, this perfect cottage will be delightful at any time of year.

The picturesque village of Hawkshead still retains the charm and character that so endeared it to its most famous residents - William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. Cars are banned from the village, leaving visitors free to wander the wealth of tiny alleyways, thoroughfares, archways and courtyards between the whitewashed 17th century houses.

Beautiful views to wake up to and in a fantastic location to explore the glorious Lake District. The cottage had everything you need, and the hot tub was a welcome treat after days out exploring. We loved sitting outside watching and listening to nature, the swallows busy in and out the rafters feeding their chicks, the sound of the cuckoo by day and owl by night. Reuben and Nicole were lovely hosts. This is definitely our favourite of places we have stayed in this area and we can't wait to come back.

Everything was perfect, right down to Honey and Ebony munching grass outside! We are telling all our friends about you.

Could not fault such a warm and cosy cottage with everything catered for. Views from windows superb. Did not want to leave. Would highly recommend Shepherds Cottage, ideally situated for walks and easy access to local areas of interest.
