About this property

Nestled within the curtilage of the owner's beautiful thatched long house is Trilbys, a carefully converted end of a barn, situated perfectly with abounding countryside stretching up and over towards the picturesque town of Chagford. This very quiet and peaceful area, with nothing more than the odd tractor and postman passing by, is a wonderfully romantic retreat for two boasting a cosy interior and an attractive English garden to the rear. Stroll through the stable door and straight into the homely set up of the lounge, complete with a wall-mounted TV, dining table and chairs and ample storage containing crockery and cutlery for your use. The galley-style kitchen is nicely appointed with fitted units and granite worktops, overlooking the wonderful exterior. Upstairs is a country-style double room with an en-suite cloakroom for your convenience, whilst the shower room rests on the ground floor. Step out to the rear of the property and admire the magical garden boasting a wild assortment of flourishing greenery amidst floriferous shrubs cascading up the stone walls, with a pretty bistro set positioned elegantly on the wonderfully kept lawn, for you to sit out and enjoy refreshments on a pleasant afternoon. A delightful pond rests in the centre bringing with it an abundance of wildlife. Resting at the northern point of Dartmoor National Park, offering walking aplenty; you can explore its open moorlands and deep river valleys. Spend some time in the local town of Chagford, though small in size offers a variety of things to do, with shops, pubs and an open-air swimming pool. The city of Exeter is further afield, offering a vibrant assortment of landmarks and attractions. This delightful bolthole is to be enjoyed the year-round.

Chagford is one of the five Stannary towns of Dartmoor, small in size but packed with amenities and things to do. There is a wide range of shops as well as four pubs, as well as a public tennis court and an open-air swimming pool to enjoy at your leisure. It is a town of great history and well known for its culture, hosting film, literary and music festivals alongside an annual running race, known as Two Hills Race. Just over 21 miles away is the city of Exeter, definitely worth a visit.

The property is beautifully presented, and the welcome pack of bread, milk and fresh fruit was a treat. Everything is so well thought out, we were very impressed. The owners, Aubrey and Judi were so kind from the moment we arrived to our departure. We were treated like family, and could not have been made to feel more welcome. Our break was a real joy.

Aubrey and Judi were the perfect hosts, extremely welcoming and thoughtful, the absolute opposite of overbearing, yet you felt like they were there to help if needed. The cottage is extremely well-equipped and in a beautiful location. It feels like a real lot of care and thought has gone into making the cottage as nice and enjoyable to stay in as possible, every detail has been considered inside, and they even offered to fill the bird feeders for us so we could watch the birds from the kitchen window. Would thoroughly recommend to anyone, especially for a quiet, relaxing, and stress-free holiday. (Note for Aubrey and Judi: we did pick the sloes and we will make sloe gin for Christmas!)
