About this property

Situated just outside the peaceful village of Chale near Ventnor on the Isle of Wight is this converted 'tin tabernacle'. A fascinating property mixing vintage 1970s furnishings with magnificent period features, quirky decor and modern updates to create the perfect balance of style and elegance. Step into the property and find yourself in a small vestibule area with space for coats and boots, through a set of original doors is the spectacular open-plan living space with mezzanine floor. Wood-panelled throughout, this room could easily appear dark, however, it is illuminated by a number of original windows, in particular by a colossal feature window at the front of the property. Underneath this window is a sitting area with a number of retro sofas and arm chairs arranged next to a free-standing woodburner. Around the corner is a table football game and a further number of chairs and vintage accessories. At the other side of the room is a dining area and through a set of doors is a beautiful red and cream 'English rose' style 1950s kitchen, complete with all the modern facilities needed for cooking up a delicious meal. In the centre of the room there is a door leading to a large bathroom featuring a luxurious sunken bath, sat in what was the baptismal font. Above this room are two mezzanine-level double bedrooms, both furnished in the property's signature retro-cool style. Attached to the property is the old 'Sunday School Annex', in which there are a further two bedrooms; one room with bunk beds and another with zip and link beds that can be either a double or two twins. There is also a large shower room with spacious walk-in shower. The garden can be accessed through a patio door between the kitchen and annex. This outdoor space offers a decked courtyard with outdoor seating, a grassed space and a BBQ area with tree seat and Indian Summer inspired 'sit-outerie'. The property lies just outside the village of Chale, a small settlement consisting of a number of houses and a fantastic pub serving tasty home-made fare. A short drive away is the popular seaside resort of Ventnor, a traditional Victorian town with thriving local art scene. Visit one of the town's galleries or numerous independent shops selling items created by local artisans. This property perfectly balances period features with retro furnishings and modern accompaniments, epitomising the cool, laid-back aesthetic that is common on the Island. It makes an ideal place to stay for families or group of friends looking for an original and interesting base, close to the popular towns and attractions that the Isle of Wight has to offer.

Chale is a scenic farming village, nestled at the foot of St Catherine’s Down on the South Coast of the Isle of Wight. The village itself offers an award-winning pub/restaurant with an excellent children’s play area, and breathtaking coastal and downland walks, especially to the 35ft-tall octagonal tower ‘St Catherine's Oratory’, locally known as the Pepper Pot. This medieval lighthouse was built in 1312 and is believed to be one of the oldest in Britain. The area of National Trust land around the Pepper Pot is a walker's and birdwatcher’s paradise, as the birds can be observed at eye level. Spectacular sunsets looking towards The Needles are quite a sight. Nearby you'll discover some of the island’s best sandy beaches, perfect for swimming, surfing and of course fossil collecting, where you might even discover the odd dinosaur footprint or two.
