Pet Friendly Cottages in Devon

Is your pampered pooch part of the family? The beauty of a staycation in the UK is that it’s often possible to let your dog tag along. There are lots of excellent pet friendly cottages in Devon, and with its beautiful natural landscapes and picturesque beaches your beloved pet’s bound to have a blissful time!

Leaving your pet behind when you jet off on holiday can be a worry, not to mention the hassle and cost of finding a dog sitter or kennels for two weeks. Ideally, you’d book them a seat on the plane if you could! Well forget all that; when you choose pet friendly cottages in Devon your best buddy can tag along, making that family holiday complete and giving your dog a much-deserved, extra-special treat.

Things to do on your pet friendly cottage holiday

Devon is an ideal place for a pet friendly holiday and boasts some of the best natural locales in the UK. Dogs love to explore new terrain, and so the diversity of natural landscapes in Devon is ideal, from superb sandy beaches to extensive parkland and glorious green spaces.

Dartmoor National Park is a must visit, boasting miles upon miles of moorland, forests, rivers and valleys. As your dog explores, you’ll have plenty to discover too, including old medieval buildings and even Bronze Age Stone Circles.

Devon’s excellent beaches can also be great for dogs; however, it’s important to check whether the beach is dog friendly or not. Woolacombe, a beautiful sandy beach, restricts access to dogs between October and May – but that doesn’t mean your favourite pet won’t find plenty to do in the surrounding areas!

If there’s one thing that pets love it’s a leisurely stroll – or not so leisurely depending on the dog – and there are some top spots for walking in the region, why not give the dog friendly walk along Exeter Canal a try?

If your family doesn’t feel complete unless your favourite dog is around, make your next holiday a pet friendly stay. With lots of great pet friendly Devon cottages available it’s easier than you might think!

About Devon

"Lovely cottage and garden, nicely restored in a very friendly village. Sadly the whole stay was ruined by an unbearable smell of dogs (and in places dog wee). The owners were quick to respond when we raised it and explained that this was due to a previous long term rental who had four dogs. However the plugins they provided and one spray of Fabreze was never going to resolve the problem.Luckily the weather was good and we could leave the windows and doors open most of the time, which helped but unfortunately we still couldn't bear to eat in the house as the smell was that strong. With hindsight we should have moved, but being such short notice (and the half term holiday) we struggled to find a suitable alternative, so ended up staying. We were disappointed that the owners didn't follow up on the issue or make any further attempts to resolve it (without being prompted). S19029 is a really nice property that we would love to stay in again but only after the owners have addressed the problem and totally replaced the carpets and rugs."

"We had a lovely week in S50594. Very well equipped, comfy beds and very clean. Nice touch to have some goodies on arrival (tea, milk, bread, butter, shortbread). Great location for exploring the area. Recommend Top Chippy at the end of the road. We also had a couple of lovely meals at the Pack o' Cards. Cottage owners were lovely and extremely helpful when we had a problem and needed their assistance, and they were very responsive to my texts. The only reason for the score not being a perfect 10 was the velux windows in the bedroom had no blinds. My personal preference is that I like a dark bedroom, and it was light as soon as the sun was up. But I wouldn't hesitate to go back to S50594 and highly recommend it. Thanks for a great week!"

"Nice cottage with a lovely garden. Well equipped and provided with a welcome pack. Everything worked as it should and it was very clean. Free Wi-Fi was useful as there is little or no phone signal. The bathroom is downstairs and some of the floors are uneven, but that is because of the age of the property. A problem with parking, as other people park right outside the cottage which meant finding a space in another road. There is a local Spar, a bakery, a nice deli and a couple of pubs to eat at, all within walking distance. A lot of driving to get to places down winding country roads, but we expected that. I would recommend this cottage to anyone who likes traditional country properties in a fairly quiet location."

"The moment we stepped through the front door we realised what a treasure we had come across. S19029 offers all the creature comforts of home and with the lamps on for our arrival it felt so cosy and welcoming. This charming thatched cottage weaved its magic with its interesting history. The garden was a lovely place to relax with a glass of wine in the evening. We especially loved the welcome gifts that were left for us. When we arrived Chulmley's Annual Fair was on and we had a lovely time mingling with the locals. Would definitely recommend the local Bakery where we purchased delicious bread and their breakfast slices We bought some for our journey home, all the way back to Cornwall."

"Lovely cottage, quirky owing to being ' upside down ' but this enhanced its charm. Kitchen well equipped, everything we needed, huge table to sit around to enjoy a good meal.Comfy beds, well furnished bedrooms , would have liked to have had a mirror and a towel rail in the wet room, our only criticism .Local pubs all dog friendly and the carvery on Sunday in the Pack of Cards was amazing, followed by a few pints of Sam's cider in the Castle at £2.50 a pint rounded off the perfect Sunday! We would definitely stay here again, lovely to have milk, bread, butter , doggybtreats and wonderful shortbread on arrival .If you get the chance please stay here, you'll love it!"
