"Myself, my partner and my brother stayed at the S83698 this March for my birthday surprise. From what started off as an awful holiday (our car broke down on the way there!) soon turned into bliss. Thank you so much to the owners for picking us up from the local supermarket late in the evening, and also sending us our money that we left in the upstairs bedroom! We need honesty like that in the world! The barn itself was very well equipped and was spotlessly clean. I was a little apprehensive at first as one of the reviews mentioned that the garden was not fully enclosed for dogs. This isn't true! There are effectively two gardens: one leading up to the woods and a smaller garden on the side of the barn that is fully fenced off with decking and chairs. I could let my dog out at night to go to the toilet with no fear that he would wander off.The highlight of this barn is definitely the location. Situated in the Tamar Valley, you are about a 10 minute walk away from some of the most beautiful trails. Directly opposite the garden, there is a river trail which has a dozen waterfalls along the way as well as a few caves! The village of Gunnislake does not have much to offer. But even though we were without a car for the first three days we still found plenty of stuff to do. Along the trails we came across some old mines which was an added bonus. We could drive to a dog friendly beach in about 40 minutes. We would also definitely return as the place was excellent value for money - plus the owners were lovely! Thanks again for all your help. Caris, Eddie, Carl, and Boycie :)"

"The cottage and the owner were a delight. The cottage was so well finished and equipped that it felt more like staying at a home than a holiday rental. It was very well suited to dogs with wooden floors downstairs and a good sized balcony, not to mention the hosepipe at the bottom of the entrance stairway. Cotton linen, feather duvets, a choice of feather or synthetic pillows and good towels were a plus too.We are lucky enough to live in a very quiet, rural location: this felt like a home from home. Beautifully peaceful.I had reservations when booking about the lack of garden, but the dogs were happy with a quick trip down the lane when necessary and we spent all day walking so there were no complaints from our canine companions. There is a wonderful, traditional Devon pub a ten minute walk away and we didn't feel like we had to drive anywhere. Coincidentally we did find that all of our walks seemed to end at the pub. A map of Dartmoor was useful; there is free roaming on Dartmoor so you can just wander without the need for a walking book. There is also very helpfully a map provided on the wall of the cottage. The shower room is compact but so cleverly designed that it was not a problem. I had concerns about previous comments regarding space, especially as we are a tall family, but we will definitely return. We came home much more rested than we would normally expect after a week off. Thanks Mel!"

"Firstly the positives- nice location, picturesque village, close to pub, local walks and shops nearby, nice historical building.Negatives- not really suitable for a winter break, really cold, had to keep very noisy boiler on 24/7, did buy wood for the woodburner and had a fire in every night but heat seems to escape out rather than in, lots of condensation with windows being very wet, couldn't open the windows, damp smell, used own towels, not able to park in front of the cottage as its first come first served so had to park in various locations around the village, no garden for our little dog to explore (front door goes straight out onto the not so busy main village road but at times cars do speed around the corner) and no means of communication (no telephone signal, wifi or telephone), it's actually nice not having some form of communication but felt vulnerable should we need to make contact in the event of an emergency. We chose the cottage for its location to Plymouth as I had work there and for this it was perfect and I know my review sounds negative and I believe the cottage would really suit a couple in the summer and I can imagine the village to be a lovely and sociable place at that time, so all in all we had a nice weekend but we have stayed at better places for an equal price."

"S19594 is a small cottage but has everything you need for your stay. There are lots of extras provided, thick soft towels, hand and shower gels, there are extra heaters in all the rooms if you need them though the heating was adequate for us, there is even an electric blanket. The kitchen is very well equipped although small. We were greeted by the very friendly owners on arrival, with a cream tea and a huge bowl of flowers from their garden. The cottage is in a very quiet beautiful area, on a lane that leads onto the moor. The owners have a large beautiful garden that they encourage you to use. All in all a lovely warm comfortable cottage."

"We LOVED this little cottage. It's not huge, but it's perfectly adequate for two people. It's in a quiet location, down a very narrow lane and only about 100 metres from the cattle grid onto the moor. It's very clean and neat and a really nice place to stay for a few days. Sally, (the owner), has really made an effort to provide everything you could possibly want. All the things you'd expect, like a hair drier, but many you'd never expect - lots of kitchen utensils I've never seen in a rental place before - even a vacuum bottle stop and pump for half full wine bottles! If we go back to West Devon, we'll definitely stay here again."
