"A superb holiday cottage in a very peaceful, tranquil location. We were there during the recent 70mph storms but you wouldn't have known it from within the cottage. It was as snug as bug during the peak. The cottage itself is right beside the entrance so very easy to locate but I'd recommend you approach it from the Dumfries side and not the Glencaple side - the entrance is on a very sharp blind corner and crossing the white line to turn into the gates is not for the faint hearted. The cottage has a very large kitchen with everything you'd need for your stay - with double aspect views of the cows in the nearby fields. The lounge is snug but very comfortable for up to 4 people - again views over the fields. The two bedrooms are very comfortable with the master having a stunning view towards Criffel and the river. There is plenty of hot water for the bathrooms and the cottage overall is well heated. Unfortunately due to the weather we didn't spend much time in the lovely garden but on the last day, when the sun shone brightly in a blue sky, I could see what a sun trap it would be in the morning and also in the evening. Wifi worked but I do carry my own mifi connection (Three) and the connection was sound. A well located cottage for viewing sites such as Caerlaverock, Sweet Heart Abbey, Threave Castle as well as more farther afield. The owner was very welcoming and there if you did need anything. Can thoroughly recommend this property if you want to just get away and recharge your soul."

"My family are so glad we booked S83422 for our get-together, 8 members ranging from 5 months to 83 years and everyone thoroughly enjoyed our visit from 2nd-9th June 2018.The website description is accurate, and the booking process was very efficient, via email. Two days before departing I also received a personal message from the owners David & Jean, with detailed travelling directions and mobile number to contact anytime for advice or assistance. Our arrival fortunately coincided with beautiful sunny weather; the trip to the cottage revealed the spectacular scenery along the route. Jean met us on arrival with a warm and informative welcome. The cottage is stunning and certainly had the 'wow' factor; making everyone feel happy, excited and relaxed right from the start. The cottage and furnishings are beautiful, and it is very well appointed; nothing has been left to chance, reflecting on the thoughtfulness of the owners and a high level of customer care. This was further enhanced by the presentation of a large, quality welcome basket, which was very much appreciated. What is not to like, with nature at its best; deer, red squirrels; herons; ospreys and other abundant bird life in a stunning setting. We had a wonderful time and were all sad to leave. We hope to re-visit for another calm and rejuvenating experience. Highly recommended. Thank-you."

"Spotlessly clean. More spacious than it looks. Comfortable (although as restless sleepers we would have preferred / slept better in a king sized bed). Large enclosed garden was perfect for our dog, who thankfully didn't bark when horses went past. It would have been helpful to have a map of the local area with walks marked (there were some notes in the visitors welcome book but it wasn't clear if you could walk on the estate itself). As you leave the private road for which the cottage was gatehouse, turn right and walk for just a few minutes to get to quiet woodland walks opposite and behind the white church. Saw deer, rabbits, hares and what I think were buzzards. Didn't see sheep or cows near the cottage but don't know if animals are moved around the farm. A little unusual to be left a delicious lemon drizzle cake, and flowers from the garden, instead of the usual basics of bread and milk but not complaining! There is a shop in the village close by - a 10-15 min walk. Shower noisy but worked fine, not just a trickle - though water takes a while to drain. Wifi worked too and, thankfully, so did the TV, with just a bit of occasional picture disturbance (critically, nothing to spoil my partner's enjoyment of the World Cup!). We would certainly recommend it and hope to stay here again."

"I had a very comfortable weekend stay with my dog. The cottage is just round the corner from the Links seafront and ideal for dog walking and general walking and access to the beach. Also many town food outlets and pub/restaurants in easy walking distance. During my stay I appreciated the quiet location despite being on a main street. The cottage feels like a detached house although "attached" to a property next door on one wall. Well equipped and with good Wi-fi and Blu-ray player a bonus. Lighting could be better in some areas especially the kitchen and lounge. I was comfortable but a large group might find the kitchen seating restrictive for main meals. The patio table at front of house not ideal for main meals. Easy parking on street round the corner - parking right outside only really suitable for loading/unloading due to near blind corner and no pavement. I would stay again and recommend for up to 4 adults or 2 adults/3 kids if eating in. Double bed and bathroom on ground level - stair not good for disabled. Shower room and 2 bright and airy bedrooms upstairs."

"This is a cottage that would be wonderful for disabled people of all abilities. The bedrooms all have garden views. The bathrooms were spotless and well thought out. There was enough space to move, which is important when you're disabled or don't like to bump your elbows on the walls! The whole cottage's layout was really good. If you didn't want to be disturbed by the TV you could sleep in the bedroom at the opposite end of the bungalow. The walls are very thick so sound didn't travel far. There was a substantial welcome pack, which always puts a smile on my face - I don't have to go searching for the tea bags immediately on arrival! The area was very quiet. The owners were very helpful and friendly. The information in the cottage about places to see and eat was very informative. We'll definitely return."
