"This is a very traditional gite. We stayed in early June. The beds are very comfortable, (we brought our own linen, pillows & mattress protectors) there are three bedrooms - two doubles one of which only has a velux window, the third bedroom has bunk beds. As the bedrooms get hot the owners have kindly provided fans to aid a restful sleep. The bathroom has a shower over the bath - put the shower to full power to ensure hot water flow. Remember to bring your own towels for both the bathroom and swimming pool. The kitchen is reasonably equipped, the oven doors requires assistance to keep a good heat seal but otherwise very efficient, there is a dishwasher and washing machine so remember your tablets, powder and tea towels. The living area is also comfortable, the TV does have english channels including CBeebies and a DVD player (does not take blue ray), a high chair is provided and in general is a large comfortable space. Outside there is a barbecue which is great along with a large table and chairs. The swimming pool is wonderful, if you have good weather you will really enjoy using this on a daily basis. The gardens are delightful, very traditional with the father of the house (plus delightful dog) tending the fruits and vegetables. There is a pond at the far end - would recommend not allowing children to play in this area unsupervised. Situated outside of Chinon (15 min drive max) where there are great shops and supermarkets for all your needs. This is a great location for cycling out of as you are straight on to country lanes and roads. The owners are delightful; charming, hospitable and friendly."

"Although the house was lovely and well situated there were a few issues. The main issue was the church bells. No mention of them anywhere in the advertising !!! They ring on the hour every hour with one chime per hour, 1 for 1 o'clock and 12 for 12 o'clock, not once but twice through and a single chime every half hour. Not overly noticeable during the busy day but a nightmare through the night !!!! To add insult to injury they also do a medley of bells at 7am every day, I assume to wake up the village. Consequently we are now suffering from sleep deprivation. We could not find 'The house book' that was mentioned so had no idea about the waste disposal arrangements but used out initiative to sort it. When paying the amount of money we did I do not think this is good enough. One or two maintenance issues need attending to as do the smelly drains !!! Shower in room 5 doesn't function properly, several light bulbs not working and the wifi only seems to work in the kitchen and lounge area with any degree of success. Again for the money paid a poor effort."

"Where to begin! I have been fortunate enough to have stayed in a variety of places over the years and this place is magnificent. The photos and description made me think it was too good to be true - I was wrong! It is everything it said it would be and more. Christian (the owner) met us on arrival and gave us a personal tour. His passion for the place shines through! It is a life’s work for him. He does not speak a word of English - but you get the gist of what he is trying to tell you. The place is maintained to a 5* standard. The size of the property, the facilities, the pool, the BBQ and the gardens are magnificent! You have to go here. There is a boulangerie, butcher, restaurants, winebar and a supermarche 1.3 km away. You will want for nothing. The garden wall literally has the Dordogne as it’s view. Christian is a gent. If you are looking for high-standard, rural French beauty and the space to have your own relaxed holiday THIS IS IT! We cannot wait to go back!"

"Beautifully situated with a large lovely garden and a great pool. Traditional French house just 200 metres from the centre of the lovely bastide town of Monsegur with all amenities (including TWO boulangeries) a short boring stroll before breakfast – this is the life! Lively market square has a Wednesday evening outdoor feast not to be missed and a traditional market on Friday mornings. The house is a bit dark and old-fashioned with a rather strange layout, it being divided so that the owner can live in one part of it. The decor is full of fascinating furniture and knick-knacks – the facilities are not very modern, though there is a large flat screen TV with French stations. All said, we would definitely stay again as the place is very relaxing and Josette and Pierre are a lovely, welcoming couple."

"To begin with the directions to the place were poor. We had come from Domme and drove past the property into the village to then find signs sending us back the way we came up a long and winding hill. Location is central for main attractions but very much out in the middle of nowhere, a car is essential. On the positive the property is very quiet, and comfortable, the gardens are lovely with lots of wildlife. The pool is great, a decent size but is shared by the adjoining property. This wasn’t a problem as we were out most days and only tended to use it towards the end of the day, there were plenty of sun loungers around the pool.At the end of the lane we discovered a local farm ran its own traditional restaurant. This was amazing and definitely worth going to."
