Holiday Cottages In Newport To Rent

More Newport Cottages

Found on the south coast of Wales, the city of Newport offers plenty for holidaymakers to enjoy while on a cottage holiday here. However, its small size means that it is still easily walkable; perfect for exploring under your own steam.

If culture and history are what you’re after, you can visit the city’s imposing cathedral, or the museum and art gallery which has all manner of artefacts from this area's past. The covered market is also worth a visit, not only does it have a great selection of fresh produce, but it has been a staple of life here for over 150 years. Outside the city centre there is a rich choice for day trips; choose from the National Roman Legion Museum, the Newport Wetlands Reserve or even the spectacular Tredegar House.

"We picked the house because it has five bedrooms and we needed the space. There were very few of this size when we looked. It was not near the beach but the island is small so this was not a problem for us. We would like to thank the owners as they made us feel welcome and left us to it, with no intrusiveness. Our children particularly loved the grounds as the garden was so spacious. They played football in the goal every day and were on the swings most days. The weather was not great but we managed two days at Shanklin Hope beach. Despite the forecast saying 20 degrees only, we all got tanned and swam in the sea. It must have its own weather system as it was much warmer than predicted. One last notable surprise was the council run swimming pool in Freshwater. This was a lovely pool which was nearly empty on the two occasions we went. A very good rainy day activity."

"on the details it said 'some noise from the road', however i did not realise its actually a main road and the google map people must have gone out of season, because I can tell you it never stops. There was no stair gate, i had to assemble the travel cot myself (even though I was told there was a cot in the main bedroom). The curtains in all the bedrooms could do with being black out. The living room floor was filthy and we all came home with black socks. We were tempted to light the fire in the living room one night but its capped!!! No idea how to use the boiler and there was no light in the shower, oh and we could not get the bottom oven to work. The 'village stroll' was lovely and it was great to see glass blowing, the fish and ducks in the pond was a favourite for the children . And the pubs were all very friendly."

"The cottage was in a beautiful location and very quiet. Although it was on the owner's property, it was just inside the drive so we were left completely alone but close enough should we have had any issues. The accommodation was immaculate with good quality bedding (a must for a comfy sleep). Toiletries, tea, coffee and milk were provided for when we first arrived and lots of literature regarding the Isle of Wight to enable us to plan and make the most of our week away. Mrs Turner (owner) was very approachable and friendly and nothing would have been too much trouble if we needed any assistance. All in all this little cottage ticked all our boxes, completely restored our faith in cottage holidays and we would not hesitate in returning. Jan and Simon Newman"

"Not impressed, just acceptable. Fair price.Bad points:Kitchen utensils dirty, kettle in disgusting condition, we didn't use it, wifi signal poor or stops working, nails on the carpet, windows don't isolate noise from the road, although not a big issue for us. Some cheap consumables like toilet paper. Pet friendly although we didn't notice any hairs. The booking confirmation clearly stated a baby high chair and a travel cot. The high chair was nowehere to be seen. Good points:Comfortable bed, dishwasher and main kitchen appliances in good condition. A map of the island available. Cosy and quiet. Good location in the centre of the island. Appreciated the courtesy milk and biscuits."

"My partner and I came here for a quiet escape after our wedding with our 9 month old daughter. The cottage was well equipped, clean and very modern. They had everything you could need in them and catered to our needs with a cot and high chair for our baby. The hosts were very accommodating and was always on had if we needed them. They were also kind enough to greet us with a bottle of prosecco and fresh flowers as it was our honeymoon getaway. I could not recommend this place more! Do not let it put you off that it is a new place. It is fantastic and we really enjoyed ourselves. Thankyou again for welcoming us :)"
