"On arrival we were surprised that previous reviews had described the cottage as spacious. As a group of 5, we found that the awkward size / shape / layout of the seating area made it difficult to all watch TV together in the evening. Whilst it's nice to have an extra sofa away from the TV for those wanting to read, the seating near the TV only had 2x two-seater sofas and 2x dentist waiting room- The seating area is also the through-route between the kitchen, bathroom, pool room and staircase, so it felt a bit like a corridor at times. I think the cottage would be most suited to a group that wants to spend evening sitting around the large kitchen table, or perhaps two couples who want to go out early hill walking and spend evenings in the pub. Positives: clean; plenty of hot water and the shower was good; corner room bed was comfortable; pool table was great; the north-east facing garden has views over countryside; the wifi was fine; there are a 2/3 really good National Trust properties in the wider area but driving there takes quite a while. There's a steam railway close by. Negatives: the property is right next the A52 so there is 50mph traffic noise from 6am; bathroom radiator is too small for the room which is cold; condensation problems causing puddles in the bathroom and kitchen; bathroom and kitchen floors are freezing, bring your slippers; cooking was challenging at times due to poor quality pans, but the oven was good. Overall, we thought the property was quite expensive for what we got, compared to others we have stayed in, especially as it isn't in the most popular location."

"Really enjoyed our stay last week. Shared the cottage with another family, 4 adults and three children in total. Plenty of room and comfortable. Village is v.quiet and nearest pub, the Nags head was a 5 minute drive on the way to Pontesbury which has a bakery, a co-op which is open 6am-10pm every day, two Chinese’s takeaways and a chip shop.Beds in cottage were comfortable, clean big bathrooms with instant hot water etc. Tv has free view which was a downgrade from sky, but more than adequate for the week. The owner Jayne who lives next door was very friendly as well as her dogs. The village is 5 miles from Shrewsbury which has the usual amenities, bowling, cinema and supermarkets. Also has a museum of local military history in the castle which was worth a visit. One hr south is Rhayader where the red kite feeding station is situated. Again worth a visit to see approx 300-400 wild red kites feeding 50 meters away and only £20 for a family of 4. Also managed a walk up Earls hill which has great views, but not an easy walk. The first few hundred meters were gravel tracks which soon became several hundred meters of very steep banks through the woods, but definitely worth the walk.Planned to go to Snowdon, but too far for children to walk and trains booked way in advance, so if this is on your agenda book in advance.Would We return, definitely. Plenty more to see and do that we could not manage in our week. A very beautiful part of the country which we would contemplate moving to."

"This was our 3rd visit to this lovely old farmhouse, which we have previously enjoyed staying at with our family. However on this occasion we felt that nothing had been improved upon since our last stay 5 years previous, with regards to repair and updating the property. We have felt very much at home here but now feel that things could have been better. The broken chair in kitchen, broken window taped up in bedroom, pool cues in games room broken, pool balls missing, table tennis bats in bad condition, dishwasher not working properly, grubby furniture in lounge & large bedroom, DVD on blink and no locks on bathrooms just a few things to mention, all of which were in need or repair/replacement on our last visit. Uncomfortable sofa bed in downstairs bedroom, & both showers needed attention. Also we reported mice at the property which were seen on a regular daily basis, which is unacceptable. Would also suggest highlighting the steps in the property as these are dangerous for elderly & also young children. We felt this was such a shame as we have loved staying here on previous occasions and we held it in regard as a special place for our family visits. With TLC & refurbishment this property could be a wonderful retreat for family holidays, but feel that now the time has come for some very much updating and improvement."

"Found S25907 very suited to our needsLocal to walks and amenities, with no need to put dogs in the car, secure garden/yard for animals and seating, although planted areas and beds need attentionKitchen very well equippedLounge area comfortable and clean, Wi-fi very goodBeds comfortable and clean with plenty of sheetsWas quite a lot of foot traffic in front of cottage as it is a shortcut to supermarket and canalAnd when windows open was a very strong smell of spices due to the close proximity to the chip shop, Chinese takeaway and Indian restaurant with all three within 50m as the crow or aroma fliesWe did have some noise on the Saturday night from a garden party in the apartments close by till early hours but when window was closed could not hear it to be fair due to the quality of the windowsAll in All a nice cottage which comfortably homes 3 couples and three dogs, so must expect some compromises for the priceWould stay again"

"We had a family gathering (8 adults, 6 children and 2 dogs) to celebrate a 70th birthday. We loved the spaciousness of the property - the beds were comfortable and it was spotlessly clean.Being a historic listed building, there was not the level of "luxury" one might get in other places, but perfectly adequate. The older children used the internet service extensively, though this was subject to speed restrictions, which caused some frustration. The outdoor table-tennis was a surprise - and we had the beautiful weather to use it.We were pleased that our visit coincided with one of the 6 days a year when the NT part of the house was open to the public - a real bonus. The road access had rather a lot of potholes, but this is not unexpected in a farm track."
