"We booked in Feb 2017 to spend Christmas 2017 there having read a positive review from the people who stayed last Christmas, you could only imagin our concerns at some of the reviews posted recently. We arrived and found the negative reviews were greatly exaggerated (some true perhaps but exaggerated) yes the showers can be problematic but you can use them, one of the knobs on the range is a bit tricky, but you turn it and the flame goes out so you know it’s off, the tv and the table are fine (no wires that are a trip hazard) and if you have booked a holiday to complain about the size of the tv...maybe the problem was booking a rural place in the first place (enjoy the out doors) and catch up with your favourite programmes at home!!!To quote a phrase it did exactly said what it says on the tin, yes it’s not five star, but it’s in a loverly location, the locals are friendly, it was clean and tidy with everything you needed.7 adults and one infant and only 1 adult was not pleased with it, but the wife is a fussy so and so. So if you nit pick about everything (like her) maybe not for you, if like me and the rest of our party and you get the bigger picture and accept life isn’t always perfect...you will have the perfect stay like we did.Would we stay again? Absolutely and further more would recommend it to like minded people who agree with the above. Come on an open fire, all that countryside, a goodnight sleep and a tv room for those who need it...all I can say is thanks for a loverly Christmas to the owners at S21474 :)"

"This characterful property looks fantastic with its old wooden beams and quirky decorations (old sewing machine, skis and saddles). It has three double bedrooms (two of which use curtains to provide privacy from the communal areas) a large open plan living room/kitchen dinner, a log fire and two large bathrooms. There is plenty of outdoor space including a patio area with great views of the countryside. It was great for kids - they loved the space and the mezzanine bedroom. It is probably best used in warmer weather. Unfortunately we arrived on an unseasonally cold and snowy Easter Monday and the central heating was broken... the log fire wasn’t able to keep the large open plan space warm by itself. The owner did provide extra blankets and a heater and had the boiler fixed by breakfast the next day. However even with the heating on and using the log fire the temperature didn’t reach 20 degrees C. The property could benefit from one or two extra radiators if used in cold weather. Also a toaster and a couple of mirrors would have improved the comfort/usability of the cottage. S21471 is well located and easy to find. It is a rural property a mile or two from small towns with shops etc. It is about 1 hour from the coast, Powis Castle and other local sites. The countryside nearby was lovely and good for walking."

"A lovely cottage, with a well equipped kitchen and lounge and two bedrooms. It is well away from the main farmhouse, and it is hard to spot any other civilisation even with its sweeping views of the countryside. It is an eco cottage with no mains electricity - it is instead supplied from a wind turbine and has batteries as a backup, as well as a petrol generator for windless days. It doesn't have any high consumption items, even the kettle is heated on the gas hob. The heating is from a woodburning stove which was lit when i arrived. It burns logs fast, they need replacing every 30 mins or so, but there is a large store outside, though these are exposed and some were wet or damp. It was really hard to light the fire when it went out - it took a lot of time feeding it with newspaper and twigs and I think the logs were damp which didn't help - a lesson on how to do it better would have been helpful. The instructions on how to use the three levers and knob on the fire differed between a) what the owner said, b) what the instructions in the manual said, and c) what other guest comments said... Some consistency would be very helpful. It is the only source of heat and as it goes out an hour after being fed, it could get very cold indoors at night if the weather was cold."

"There were nine people in our party including an OAP, a child and an adult with learning difficulties. The heating was non-existent and having to phone the owner made no difference. There is no justification for this Spartan approach and it ruined our week. Of the four bathrooms advertised, only two were functional and even they were sub-standard. We weren't expecting the Ritz but did expect a baseline level of human comfort. For such a well fitted kitchen, the lack of decent cups, utensils and pans was extremely disappointing. Had the heating been permitted (disgraceful), had the bathrooms all been functional and had the kitchen been adequately stocked with basic items, it might have been a lovely week. As it was, it was a really appalling experience. This property should not be advertised in the way it is as it is clearly misleading to would-be visitors in future."

"The lodge was immaculate and well equipped, althought as a keen cook some good knives and a proper chopping board would've been nice. The kitchen is so spacious a dishwasher could also easily be accommodated. Nit picking aside, the lodge itself was great - clean, comfortable, tastefully decorated and cosy. The children also liked our neighbours, the sheep and lambs. The location was good, with great views over the valley below, and the outside areas would be lovely in the summer for a BBQ and drink. The only downside was the last few hundred metres of road were unsurfaced, which in a car with relatively low suspension was a bit hairy. In heavy rain or snow access would've been difficult for my car. Overall, my family and I really enjoyed our stay and would like to return in the summer. It's also worth mentioning the owners were very friendly and accommodating."
