"The cottage was pleasantly situated with a view out over the church and lane. The cottage had a fairly new kitchen and bathroom though the rest of the property was in need of a refurbishing and some of the furniture like the sofa and armchairs, recovering renewing. The twin beds were comfortable and no negative report re the double. Although reasonably clean, some areas needed attention; black mould spots on the bath side and the windows were filthy both inside and out. A nice touch was the seasonally planted boxes on front and rear window sills, a pity though, that the sills hadn’t been wiped clean. Externally the cottage was noticeably shabby compared to its neighbours. The garden was pleasant. The kitchen contents were variable, plenty of plates, only 4 mismatched bowls and lacking in non wine glasses, 3 tall tumblers and one small. The two plastic chopping boards made us shudder, criss crossed with dirt encrusted knife cuts. We didnt go beyond toast so cannot comment on the state of the pans and other stuff. We were provided with one bath towel per person, plus one hand and a mat, we had to take the kitchen towel to the bathroom so we at least had one to use for hair washing and hands. They were not great, one had bleach marks. The beds had fleece throws, I had to use mine in the night as I was cold. I ran my hand over it as I turned over, it was crusty in parts Urhgh. Fresh eggs were a nice touch though milk etc being provided is pretty much par for the course these days in cottage rentals. We rent about 3 times a year, over the country so are fairly seasoned in these matters, this cottage was well below the standard we’ve come to expect."

"The cottage was picturesque, but not very well equipped. There were clean sheets, and (small) towels provided, plus one roll of loo paper; no hand soap, no dishwasher tablets, no clingfilm for the microwave. Possibly future guests could be advised to provide their own. There was no local information provided other than a book of bus timetables - it would have been a nice touch to give recommendations for local shops, restaurants, walks etc, plus where to catch the bus! Also there was no local contact number in case of emergencies. There was a mish mash of crockery - only 3 side plates and 3 cereal bowls, and only about 8 mugs, so you had to keep washing things up rather than use the dishwasher. Also some light bulbs had blown but there were no spares. The garage was very small, so we could not use it (there was free parking further up the road, so this wasn't a problem). My biggest complaint is the state of the garden, which was smothered in bindweed, although the house handbook mentioned a gardener coming in every week, all they appear to do is cut the lawn.On the plus side, Rottingdean is lovely, with fantastic food pubs, a fabulous bakery and greengrocers, frequent buses into Brighton, and lovely walks around the windmill and along the beach. So we did enjoy our stay, but felt the cottage was very impersonal (not helped by fact that owner took five days to reply to my email about key collection) and a bit neglected."

"A lovely place to stay for wonderful walks along the beach, the Undercliff Walk, straight down to Brighton Marina and Brighton Town Center. Just as well you can go for long walks in the countryside. The Cottage itself is beautiful and in a very good state. All electrical equipment is in a perfect state, Wifi is top. The bathroom is small, but nice and the shower works like a charm. Beds are perfect and the enclosed garden is a lovely place to enjoy a good cup of coffee or a nice BBQ. Rottingdean itself is very traffic polluted, moving along the streets as a pedestrian isn´t very pleasurable.Parking in the garage should be easy for Smarts or Minis, but not for SUVs. But there is enough free parking space up the road. Mind you, a long way up the road... ;-) No, it´s ok, you might have to walk 200 m or so.Once we had parked our car, we left it there all week and got us a Network Saver Bus ticket for roundabout 22 GPB a week. Cheaper and much more pleasurable than going into town by car.Would we come back to Rottingdean and S26240? Yes, any time!"

"The big plus about this cottage is the wonderful location, perched atop a cliff with lovely views to the south over the channel and to the west along the coast, where we saw some amazing sunsets.Large property with secure decked area to patio doors to front and beyond a secured mainly turfed garden. This was ideal for our 2 small dogs. Parking for 2 cars directly outside and property accessed by gravel road. Spacious lounge, adequate kitchen, decent size bedrooms and main bathroom. We didn't use the games room upstairs. The negatives were that when we arrive the place smelt of dogs, and although we have dogs, this smell was off putting. Soon had windows open and bought and used air fresheners which did the trick. Everywhere was clean, but the kitchen was dirty. Previous occupants had left a dirty greasy oven, dirty microwave, some cutlery marked and oven and work tops not clean. We had to spend a bit of time with soap and water to make it clean, which we shouldn't have to do.Otherwise a nice property in great location."

"The cottage was in a great location for what we wanted to do - seeing our son and family in Brighton etc (half-term). The underfloor heating in the bathroom was unexpected but very welcome. However, we did find that the heating system was either very hot or very cold - didn't seem to regulate at comfortable/medium. Only 4 plates and bowls, 1 tea towel and no serving dishes I thought was a little on the 'mean' side especially when trying to make a meal. ALSO, we had a masses of wasps which was quite worrying when our 4 year old grandson came to visit. Apparently, on speaking to the cleaner on the morning of departure the previous people had complained too but nothing seemed to have been done about them!! Advertised as having broadband but we couldn't pick up our e-mails etc which was quite frustrating as we were awaiting a couple of important ones."
