"I echo the previous reviews - the cottage is lovely, well-equipped and clean. The views are stunning and the cottage is ideal for those who enjoy peaceful holidays in the heart of the countryside. There are no streetlamps and one evening we were treated to a quite magical display of stars. We chose the area initially because we had family matters to attend to (I was brought up about ten miles away) and we thought Halfen looked nice from the description and from the photo. We also chose it because it has an enclosed garden for our two Jack Russell dogs. In fact, the garden proved to be a hit as it is big enough to play ball with them and it is very secure. The surrounding fields contain sheep so it was very important to us that the dogs could be allowed off the lead within a secure environment. Although the cottage is part of a farm, the yard outside is very clean and well-maintained. On the day we arrived, we were given a very warm welcome and enjoyed chatting to the owners in passing. My elderly mother stayed with us for a few nights and, although she doesn't walk very well, she managed to climb the stairs with no trouble - the stairs are wide and the handrail is solid wood. The kitchen is very well-equipped and I loved having a decent-sized freezer (we were there for two weeks). The only thing I could have done with was a kitchen scissors to open bags of food etc but I was able to buy one cheaply when we went shopping. On that subject, I would recommend Welshpool as it is the nearest sizeable town to Halfen. It has three supermarkets plus the usual shops and services. Unfortunately, we drove the long way to Welshpool and only found out towards the end of our holiday that there is a much shorter route - we wished we'd have asked the owners about this from the start (so much for my local knowledge!). A word of warning - for the last couple of miles to the cottage (from either direction) the road is very narrow so be prepared to give way to oncoming vehicles. All in all, a lovely break and we would definitely go back."

"A beautiful, spacious cottage, tastefully decorated and furnished in neutral colours to achieve a bright and airy feel, yet still remaining cosy, retaining some character features and a cottage atmosphere. Large Velux windows and a perfectly located conservatory make the most of the wonderful views of the garden/patio and valley beyond. S5367 has everything you need to make your stay a comfortable one - thick carpets, a well equipped kitchen, comfortable lounge with a wood burner, 3 dining options (if you include the patio area), several bathrooms and fantastic showers, to name but a few. Traveling with young children, these were our highlights - plenty of space to have messy kids mealtimes in the kitchen, a conservatory which conveniently doubled as a kids play room/games room on rainy days. A safe parking area as well as a secure garden for the kids to run about in. Chickens to feed on site. Squirrels and Woodpeckers in the garden. Walking down to the town through the ford/weir and saying hello to the fairies under the bridge as we passed - magical. The beds were comfortable and the master bedroom had plenty of floor space to put a travel cot/toddler bed without compromising on space at all. The range in the kitchen was easy to use and cooked beautifully, and helped to keep the house warm on cool summer evenings. It was a real pleasure spending the week here and the owners were very helpful and accommodating without being intrusive. I would highly recommend!"

"Where to start? It's a great wee cottage. The lovely owners (Decia & Keith) live on site & provided some nice wee extras to get our holiday started, from food goodies (inc fresh eggs from the chickens on site) to loads of info on things to do, places to eat etc etc. The house itself is immaculate, well stocked & has everything you could need. It has a great garden for the kids to play in, the chickens ! plenty off road parking, and is within easy walking distance to the local village and its shops, pubs, restaurants & more. Our local favourites were Something Tasty (great pizza), Eagle Fish & Chips and the Stumble Inn & Green Inn pubs. Visits to nearby Oswestry, Welshpool (swimming & Steam train) & Lake Vyrnwy were great. Further afield are Aberdovey, Portmerion & Chester. The weather could have been kinder, but when it was sunny, the garden is a real sun trap. Overall, a huge recommendation from us for this cottage, a real wee gem in a lovely part of the world. We'll certainly be back to Wales & may well return to S5367 sometime in the future. All the best."

"As soon as we arrived at the Mill (down a dark lane but easy to find thanks to the excellent directions), we were warmly welcomed by the owner of the property and shown around - I fell in love. Beautifully decorated with traditional beams, books and board games to borrow, it was characterful and modern at the same time. We stayed on a brisk early spring weekend but the property was always heated and cosy inside, and impeccibly clean. Everything you may need was provided, from drying racks to umbrellas to recycling. It even had sky TV. The grounds were beautiful - perfect for my dog to roam around with the sounds of baby lambs in the fields around. It had a stream running throuugh which was beautiful and would be lovely for sitting beside in summer months. It was secluded and private, but only a few minutes from civilisation should you need to nip to the shops. The local area was stunning, literally minutes from the start of Snowdonia National park with some amazing views/walks/drives all over. I wish we had stayed longer."

"If you love being in the countryside with the sounds of nature all around, this is the place for you. We adored our stay at The Mill. Yes we were spoilt with a week of sunshine and warmth, but not only that, as soon as you're in the Mill you feel de-stressed and relaxed. The accommodation on three floors works well. The gardens were a delight, our children had great fun building dams in the stream, playing pooh sticks off the bridge and ball games in the large grounds. The cottage is surrounded by fields, with sheep bleating in the distance and Red Kites soaring over head. Although you enjoy the feeling of being remote, you're only a short drive to the village. Here you'll find a good Spar for day to day shopping, along with a butchers, chemist etc. 100% we are going to go back to The Mill and stay. The area has lots to explore, some of the scenery is just beautiful. We had an action packed week of mountain walks, riverside walks, quad biking, retail therapy in local towns and even a trip to the seaside (Barmouth)."
