Or perhaps something pet-friendly, so you don’t have to leave that pampered pooch at home? There are lots of excellent large cottages to rent, located all over the UK.

Think cottage holidays and you might have something cosy and quaint in mind, perhaps a former miner or millworker’s accommodation in a charming little village. These characterful properties are great of course, but sometimes you just need a little more space, somewhere for your kids to run around or maybe a roomy hang-out for you and your friends, somewhere to cook, kick back and relax. There are plenty of large holiday cottages to choose from, including accommodation that sleeps 10 or people, boasting modern conveniences like Wi-Fi, fully-equipped kitchens and big-screen satellite TVs.

Make the most of your holiday in a large holiday cottage

Many people who book large holiday cottages are planning intrepid hiking or cycling trips. The UK, as well as being the homeland of some of the world’s most successful cyclists, has some of the most stunning natural landscapes anywhere in the world – from the Yorkshire Moors to the South Coast, and everything in between – the ideal backdrop for some off the beaten track adventures.

Cottages aren’t always in remote and rural locations, and there are lots of large cottages to rent close to big cities or large towns. Maybe you’re after something conveniently located for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, or perhaps you’re treating the extended family to a memorable trip to the seaside town of Whitby. Finding accommodation for larger groups can be a challenge, not to mention expensive, and large cottages are a great solution, with something for all tastes, requirements and budgets available.

Don’t stress the small stuff, choose large holiday cottages for that memorable vacation with all your favourite people, available all across the UK you’re bound to find your dream accommodation.

"Excellent and well equipped cottage. Nice location to the nearby bootle beach which is an excellent sandy and shale stone beach. Secluded location but within driving distance of many interesting sights. Tesco in Millom is about 8 miles away. Bootle train station is a short distance away. The approach road is unmetalled but drivable bridleway in autumn. I am not sure if my car could have driven on that road if it was covered in snow though. Spacious clean well equipped cottage with literally everything one would need. The cottage had everything other than wifi, which is an issue if you want to send photos to family. We had sim cards of 4 uk networks (3, O2, Orange and Vodafone) none of them got a signal or barely got a 2g signal in some of the rooms. 3 and O2 got a 3g signal near the 2nd floor window. I did find an occasional BT open zone wifi signal on the path between the cottage and the owners house. Do Hopefully they can install a wifi extender from their house to the cottage. One can get dual band wifi extender on sale on BT website now for about £30. It was frustrating for all three families being unable to plan the next days trips due to lack of wifi or phone signal on all 4 UK Major networks. Hopefully the wifi issue will be sorted soon as the lack of this prevents me giving 10 out of 10.There are safety stair gates on all stairs at the top and bottom except at the bottom of the stairs between 1st and 2nd floor although the top of the 2nd floor does have stairs. Football table, good selection of toys and games for kids. Xbox 360 in the second reception room. Nice comfy sofas in both reception rooms, nice clean comfy beds and bathrooms.Safety automatic lights come on all the stairs when the lights go out. There was a hurricane when we went and the safety lights worked flawlessly. There are additional torches kept at the entrance. 2 high chairs and 2 cots for toddlers. Overall very nice which I can recommend."

"The house itself is lovely and very well equipped for large groups. There is plenty of seating in the living and dining areas (which is not always the case in houses claiming to accommodate large groups.) The upstairs attic room is lovely, with skylights to view the stars! The house was spotlessly clean and the owners were lovely. The owners house is directly opposite the holiday rental but, in our opinion, they drew the perfect line between being approachable and friendly and also being unobtrusive. The only thing that made this house a little less than perfect for us was the very close proximity to the dog kennels. The house is pretty much located within the grounds of the kennels and that meant the dogs could be heard quite a bit, especially in the bedrooms facing to the front and overlooking the kennels. I don't know if the dogs they had at the time we stayed were particularly noisy, but you could certainly hear dogs barking and howling through the night. A number of our party were light sleepers and this wasn't ideal for them. Also, when we checked in to the property the owners advised us to keep the garden gate closed or one of the dogs would come into the garden of our house. We kept the gate closed because we are not really dog people and one of the children in our party is frightened of dogs. However, the wee dog in question was actually able to squeeze under the gate so keeping her out was impossible and she regularly appeared when we were eating in the garden. She was a lovely dog and I realise we are probably in the minority with not being dog lovers, but we didn't really enjoy having a dog jumping around while trying to eat and no way of actually keeping her out. The owners have a lovely house here and I think it would be perfect for dog lovers who place their dogs in the kennels and aren't bothered about dog noise/presence of dogs."

"We found S18463house very spacious, warm, clean and well maintained and it suited our needs for the occasion of a special family celebration very nicely. We appreciated the welcome pack. There were one or two minor niggles though when we arrived (eg. we had to ask for more mugs as when we arrived there were only 6 mugs for a property which sleeps 10 and no baby bath towel was provided even though it was requested or a hand towel for the downstairs toilet. Also it would have been nice to have had a few dish washer tablets provided for immediate use, some extra refuse sacks and a few spare loo rolls.) However we were aware that the owners had a family emergency to deal with just before we arrived which probably made the change-over difficult and so some of these matters in normal circumstances may have been dealt with.As our family celebration will not be repeated we are unlikely to visit S18463 again but we are happy to recommend the property which although somewhat isolated is well suited for a large number and is a good base for exploring the western edge of the Lake District (as long as you are willing to face the adventure of the long unmade road to the farm!)"

"When we got to the property we were very disappointed to find it wedged between a b&b and a caravan park. The P&O ferry terminal was directly across the road so the view from the front windows was just the port. The house was cleanish but not spotless. Hairy soap in the shower, a cupboard full of dirty glasses and our westie narrowly avoided choking on a peach stone. The garden was not as advertised at all with the lawn being the size of a large rug, but sloping and up some steps. However, my elderly father, in particular, loved sitting in the lounge watching the action at the port. If the windows are open it's very noisy from all the traffic too. So, would we stay here again? Well, yes we probably would. The accommodation has everything we needed, was comfortable and spacious. We found lots to do within an hour's drive, even though the party ranged in age from 13 to 86. If you're looking for a property that gives you a comfortable base to go from it's good. The bonus is if you want to catch the ferry to Larne, you definitely won't be late!!"

"We(myself, mum and two daughters,8+10yrs)stayed at Captains Cottage on 8th August for 2weeks and had a great time.We met Jan the owner who is a lovely lady and she showed us around the house. It is really well equipped so you don,t have to take anything,we really liked the clothes maiden what heats up,very handy when the weather is bad.The beds are really comfy, everything is spotless.Jan kindly left a welcome hamper for us even buying the girls some sweets which was very much appreciated. And I must mention the most huge, delicious lemon sponge cake which was soooooo scrumptious. The cottage is just across from a pub,The Fishermans Rest which sells food and at the end of the lane round the corner is a great fish and chip shop.It is only a 5-10 min stroll to the beach and there is a café called The Dunes which had lovely food. While we were there the weather was quite bad and Jans mum and dad came to see if we were alright which was very reassuring for us.All in all we had a fantastic time and have made great friends too, thank you xx"
