Think cottage holidays and you might have something cosy and quaint in mind, perhaps a former miner or millworker’s accommodation in a charming little village. These characterful properties are great of course, but sometimes you just need a little more space, somewhere for your kids to run around or maybe a roomy hang-out for you and your friends, somewhere to cook, kick back and relax. There are plenty of large holiday cottages to choose from, including accommodation that sleeps 10 or people, boasting modern conveniences like Wi-Fi, fully-equipped kitchens and big-screen satellite TVs.

Many people who book large holiday cottages are planning intrepid hiking or cycling trips. The UK, as well as being the homeland of some of the world’s most successful cyclists, has some of the most stunning natural landscapes anywhere in the world – from the Yorkshire Moors to the South Coast, and everything in between – the ideal backdrop for some off the beaten track adventures.

Cottages aren’t always in remote and rural locations, and there are lots of large cottages to rent close to big cities or large towns. Maybe you’re after something conveniently located for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, or perhaps you’re treating the extended family to a memorable trip to the seaside town of Whitby. Finding accommodation for larger groups can be a challenge, not to mention expensive, and large cottages are a great solution, with something for all tastes, requirements and budgets available.

Don’t stress the small stuff, choose large holiday cottages for that memorable vacation with all your favourite people, available all across the UK you’re bound to find your dream accommodation.

"We arrived and the owner came and met us. That was fri night. Monday glass was found under the coffee table in lounge.. Pictures of this was taken ,and on further inspection of the property .we found that the Downstairs shower room was un usable .. Due to the cleanliness of it .. Dirty plates .. Were found in the cupboard, the Oven was un useable due to the amount of grease and fat on it . Cobwebs and dirt everywhere. Mouse dropping down by the side of the fridge .. Which was cleaned by ourself ,we cleaned floors and bathrooms too.We drew the line when a neighbouring neighbour didn't hear or see our 2 yr old as 4 of us are screaming at him "stop" on private ground and nearly ran her over, but heard me call him a" blithering idiot" from the other side of the field?and got out of his car to start a fight ! I rang hoseseason that night and voiced my concernsIn fairness to the owner he did come over in the morning and saw the photos and said sorry for everything but his cleaning company had let him down . And did leave a compensation and a card for everything . On a final run around the house to check we had everything I pulled the beds back to check if anything was left behind to find white powder and what looked like mice dropping .. My 6 yr old had been sleeping in it all week ! When on the Friday I spoke to hoseseason to inform nicely that they might have visitors I was told that it was woodlowse poo. ...( bloody big ones . ) We had flys and moths in every room especially the kitchen / dining room . Food had to be covered at all times . The house itself was lovely and in fairness to the owner we didn't report it until Wednesday , and he did act with understanding of our complaint , and I do understand that people do let u down and for that the house nor this report should be damaging to them. But in the same token the owner didn't take the time to inspect the property before arrival of guest ."

"Nine of us from 3 generations had a great family birthday weekend stay here. I'll get the downsides over and done with as there were so few. Firstly, the property has the creakiest floorboards ever and there didn't seem to be much sound proofing generally. The TV was temperamental and there was only one but we hadn't got together to watch TV. The plus sides were the property was some way from the main road which meant the children could play out and ride bikes with no worries about traffic. There were 17 bikes for all ages and in various conditions but we had some great bike rides passed the farm and on to the heath. There are no cycle helmets so bring your own! The location is very quiet but no distance into the village of Broadmayne where there is a shop and a pub. There is so much to do in the area and we enjoyed Lulworth Cove and a steep walk up to Durdle Door. The garage with table tennis and table football was great and there are nets for badminton and football goals with plenty of space for each. The property is equipped with everything you could possibly want and the heating system great with plenty of hot water. The children loved the ice machine in the fridge! We would certainly consider it again for our annual birthday break"

"This house was lovely but we did not find it met the description on the website. The wording suggests separate reception rooms which was not the case. We like a separate room for game playing from TV watching but this was not possible. Also the house was slightly disappointing in terms of supplies and equipment. I have never been anywhere before (and we have hired big holiday houses for 12 years every Easter) where there was so little provided in terms of basic requirements for instance there were no spare toilet rolls (and most there were almost used up), washing up cloths, washing up liquid, a small number of dishwasher tablets, black bin liners etc that make the start of a stay so much easier. For a Luxury Collection house this was disappointing, not even a small pint of milk to go with the tea bags etc. The towels were also small. However it was spotlessly clean and the caretaker was very prompt in providing a key for the summer house. All the children loved the garden."

"We had a fabulous week at S17970 and were lucky to be able to take advantage of the outdoor facilities as the weather was brilliant, for the time of year.We had just a few teething issues - the ovens were so well used that markings had been rubbed off, but we managed, through trial and error, to sort out what we needed. (We understand they are due to be replaced shortly.) A flood from the bath shower added to the excitement, but was attended to, very quickly, by Phil, who maintains the house, following an emergency phone call.I was interested to note that where any previous reviews had suggested items that would be useful in the house, they had all been purchased - it is good to know that notice is taken. Our suggestion would be for a second kettle! (We took an extra with us...)The house was beautifully clean throughout, and extremely comfortable and spacious."

"The kitchen was very well stocked for appliances, equipment and kitchenware. The bedrooms were large, had lovely views, good furniture, comfortable beds and bedding although beds could be larger. The open plan kitchen, dinning, lounge and conservatory was very sympathetic to large family needs with two television areas and sound systems throughout the three story house. The large garden was to grass down to the water's edge with a well stocked summerhouse and accesss to a rowing boat and kayaks. The local speedboat races were exciting to watch from the bottom of the garden at weekends and Thursday evenings. Local amenities were plentiful for a week's stay but take your bike as there is a lot to explore. A very comfortable and friendly house. We shall visit again!"
