"An excellent base to explore rural Lancashire and the Yorkshire Dales, just half an hour from the fun of Blackpool and a few miles from the pretty market town of Clitheroe and eerie Pendle Hill. Mrs Whalley and her family are extremely welcoming to humans and four legged guests alike, providing lots of little extras and are close by in their farmhouse to give great advice on places to visit, shops, restaurants, etc. The traditionally furnished bungalow has a lovely country feel, is equipped with everything you can imagine (look "upstairs" for the secret bookcase!) and is very comfortable, clean, warm and quiet with stunning country views; lovely to have a morning cuppa watching the cattle and sheep grazing just feet away in the fields. The best self-catering we've ever had, hope to return again soon if we can find a vacancy. A few tips, try the White Bull in nearby Ribchester for a very warm welcome and excellent food, the huge Boundary Mill store in Pendle for brilliant designer bargains, and Dapper menswear in Clitheroe for unique clothing and the most stylish shopkeeper in Lancashire! "As a family this was the perfect location, situated within walking distance of the golf club for our son and great for walking our nervous and not sociable rescue dog! we wanted a relaxing hideaway from the stress of everyday life, phones etc and we had this in spades, the only downside for us was that we found the beds a bit uncomfortable and due to the many nicknacks within the cottage there was a lot of dusty surfaces - think the owners could remove some items and still have the lovely cottagey feel but giving themselves less work on changeover day (also the fridge had to be cleaned). A few people have complained about the parking, however we took off our top box and put this in the garage and there was still plenty of room for our large family saloon car (this also saved fuel for the week), the gentleman next door was lovely and helpful even putting out and bringing in the bin. Overall we would recommend and go back to this cottage."

"This is the best cottage we have ever stayed in, possibly wont go back because we don't very often return to the same places but if we were going to go back to that area would definitely re-book. It has everything you could want, bath, separate shower, lovely comfortable beds, warm and cosy, conservatory looking out onto the garden, breakfast table in the kitchen and separate dining room for evening meals. PERFECT. We were told in the info no wifi but when we got there my daughter was more than pleased to see there was, possibly this was new to the cottage and not made it to the website information yet...My 15 year old daughter wanted to go to Blackpool so this was an ideal location as only 20 odd miles away and once we had been she understood why we didn't choose to stay in Blackpool!!"

"Cottage was in a great spot to travel to Lake district, Yorks dales, but also within walking distance of a great rspb reserve. The local scenery around the estuary was lovely, and we enjoyed watching the sun set from the riverside pubs. D finitely an area to come back to.Cottage was in a nice, quiet position and was very well equipped. Conservatory lounge was especially nice to relax in. Garden a lovely size, the only problem being the fence is not completely dog-proof, so we had to keep an eye on our dog out there. Bedrooms were very warm when we stayed so we had to take the quilts off! We were blessed with a week of good weather. Owner friendly and welcoming. We'd like to return in a different season, thanks."

"The house was very much bigger than we expected and beautifully appointed. We got a lot of exercise in the kitchen. My friend spent some of her childhood in the area and discovered that she'd had a friend who lived next door and whom she'd visited. Unfortuately the residents weren't there that week. My husband worked on site at Heysham in the 80's and was billeted in the Midland Hotel - he wasn't impressed. I'm delighted to report that it is now beautiful and our afternoon tea was excellent. Rail links to Lancaster were quick and our visit to the castle was memorable. It was a great relaxing break."
