"Wow! I can honestly say this is the best place we have stayed in ever! We received a gorgeous welcome pack of scones & jam with fresh flowers dotted around our cottage and even our dog got his own bed, bowl. towels & biscuit upon our arrival. We stayed at "S44593" - a two-bedroomed Grade II listed barn/cottage that feels like home with gorgeous furniture, furnishings and everything we needed was available. The cottage has that "5 star" touch and even has the extra toilet under the stairs as well as a small family bathroom. The upside down style of this place gave us views of S44593 and the fells in the open lounge/kitchen that took our breath away and it was a joy to start up the fire very low every now and then just to feel that extra cosy with a couple of lamps on - although it did get hot and I had to open all the windows and turn the fire off! We were able to walk around the farm and explore and visit the animals: sheep, 2 donkeys, several alpaca and the owners' 4 dogs and one particular day we had the privilege of watching one of the working dogs "Moss" round up all the sheep to place in the next field. Our 10 yr old son Jack was desperate to play in the games room and found a new good friend who was staying next door at "The Garth". Every day we did something different and this cottage is the perfect base for you to visit every part of the county whether it be walking, sailing, canoeing, rock-climbing, visiting places of history and going to all the National Trust venues. Keswick is about 8 miles away which is a lovely town to visit and do all your weekly shopping but since I was glad to get away somewhere totally rural, we sorted out our food shopping early on Saturday morning in this town and spent the rest of our week slowing down and unwinding to the point that on our last day we were genuinely sorry to leave. Many thanks to Judith and Mike who both went out of their way to ensure our holiday was special and left a lot of very good memories. Would I recommend this beautiful place to everyone? I would recommend this cottage to all those who respect our countryside, our hard-working farmers, the local community and Judith & Mike - they all deserve it...."

"We love this cottage. We feel at home the moment we arrive, there’s a great atmosphere and although close to the town of Penrith and the village of Calthwaite it feels a million miles away from the stresses of everyday life. We love coming here. It’s a few minutes out of Penrith with its lovely mix of independent and chain shops. Plenty of grocery stores too (M&S, Sainsbury’s, Booths and Morrison’s). The village is less than a mile away and has a pub (we’ve not visited). It’s a great base to reach further afield too. Carlisle is 30 mins away (by the A road and M6, but it’s prettier to take little country lanes, off the beaten track, and take longer to get there by passing through tiny hamlets and villages). The cottage layout is perfect as my elderly parents have the downstairs bedroom with large ensuite shower room, and I have the upstairs ensuite. Beds are huge and comfy. Plenty of storage space. The kitchen is large and well equipped with views of the courtyard. The lounge has three window walls with great views out to Saddleback mountain. We love to watch the birds at the feeder (positioned in front of one of the big picture windows), the hares and the sheep. Sofas and chairs are comfy and inviting. Liz, the owner, and Naomi, the cleaning lady, are both lovely ladies, making us feel very welcome. Had one request of the owner, Liz, this holiday and she literally sorted it within 10 minutes - can not fault the service at all. Brilliant cottage. LOVE IT."

"Visited this cottage several times, and already looking to book again. I take my elderly parents (Dad has limited mobility). The lounge is huge with three walls of windows, lots of light and great views. Open plan into the huge kitchen/diner that is fully equipped. There is a downstairs bedroom with a super-king bed that can be split into two singles (on request). It has an ensuite with large walk in shower. It’s also accessible from the hallway. Upstairs is a huge bedroom, super-King size bed, with ensuite shower and bath. The cottage is immaculately clean, very well equipped, comfortable beds etc. The village is walking distance and has a pub (not eaten there but smells fantastic). Very easy to reach the main A road into Penrith which has several eateries, several supermarkets (Booths, Sainsbury’s, M&S food, Morrisons), a lovely little 2/3 screen cinema, banks, shops etc. Lots of country lanes to reach Penrith, Carlisle, Keswick and the M6. Owner is such a lovely lady and the cleaning lady is such a great character. Can’t re I mend it enough!"

"We had a delightful holiday during the hottest week of the year so far. We left the car at home and travelled from Dumfries to Armathwaite by train. During the week it was wonderful to be able to travel from the Cottage to Carlisle in 30 minutes on the Carlisle-Settle Railway. We also travelled to Penrith on the Fellrunner bus (run by volunteers).Eden Stores in the village sold everyday goods alongside some truly delicious deli items. What a treat. It was pure co-incidence that the weekend we arrived was Armathwaite's Open Garden Weekend. When it was time to return home Robin (the owner) very kindly took us to the Station and told us should the train not arrive we could contact him and he would come and pick us up."

"S89451 suited my purposes exceptionally well. It is exceptionally well furnished and equipped and extremely comfortable, even in one of the coldest weeks of the winter. The owners have gone out of their way in their detailed and helpful instructions to make sure that visitors feel able to use the cottage as their own during their stay. If there is a complaint, which is more of a need to know rather than a complaint, there was no welcome pack or any of the other things such as hand soap, condiments, tea and coffee in the house. Toilet rolls, a dishcloth and scourer and washing up liquid was provided, but visitors need to take everything else."
