"The pretty cottage was located on an extremely steep hill side because of this it was hard to get to from the road at the bottom and we are both very fit and active. Unfortunately there was no dedicated parking on Back lane that would have enabled access from the road above and most of the time we could not find a space, it was just all taken and therefore we had to go to a car park.Once inside it was over 3 levels, the steps into the kitchen in the basement were exceedingly steep and we had to carry two of the three dogs up/down, they were also very difficult for us to navigate, made even more difficult because of the height of the low ceiling over the steep steps (there was a hand rail which helped a little) . My husband at 6'4" could not stand upright on the steps and in significant parts of the kitchen. The majority of the opening windows are tiny and trying to get the bedrooms, even the rest of the house to cool down, not even on the hottest of days was very difficult. A couple of the other windows were locked with no key apparent. On a more positive note, the cottage was otherwise clean and had all that was required, the lounge was a bit dated but that is just personal taste. The owner came to greet us and left us a very nice box of treats for us and our 4 legged friends. The town was pretty with a great leisure centre and some nice eateries. There was a helpful supply of maps and guidebooks on the bookcase. On this occasion sadly this cottage was unfortunately not for us for all of the reasons stated."

"The owner was lovely on arrival, the cottage is a good size, has top quality appliances and was very well equipped but it wasn't clean. The owner was aware of previous reviews but was dismissive that their cottage wasnt clean. I don't mean to be rude but feel if I list our issues they will know what to look for. I had to wash the cutlery drawer, cutlery, pans and drink dispenser as had old food/ drink on them. There was a blood stain on the master mattress that you could see through the sheet. The carpet on stairs was covered in dog hair and when we moved the living room rug and bedside table to a place more suited to us it was clear it hadn't been hovered under for some time. The garden wasn't safe for the children though the owner did cut the grass on the second day ( it was very long) the edges are covered in stinging nettles, brambles and old logs. Plus there is a open bonfire area just in the middle. It was also not clear to me the garden and the washing machine was shared and our view of the garden most days was the owners washing. Which also put us off using the garden. The area was lovey with beautiful local walks and in easy reach for the Peak District and Sheffield. The swimming pool in Sheffield was a big hit with the children. The cottage has the potential to be wonderful if the cleaning was better."

"Perfect apartment with everything you need for a relaxing break in Holmfirth. Lots of features, wooden floors and a log fire. We absolutely loved it.... as did our pooch! The garden and views are beautiful. Great pub a few doors away, doesn’t serve food but we ordered Indian from Bengal Spice which was delicious! And they knew the address (excellent recommendation from the owner Claire). There is also a coop a short walk away which has everything you need. It’s just over a mile into the centre.... be aware all uphill on the way back! It’s easy to find if you read the instructions! (We didn’t!)All cleaning products are there, as are towels / linen. Don’t forget your toiletries and kitchen roll though! Thank you Claire - fabulous property!!! We’ll be back! X"

"We booked the cottage because we had a dog with us and wanted an enclosed garden, and whilst that's what we got, the grass was so long the garden was unusable. Plus someone had had a bonfire in the middle of the grass and the debris left meant it was unsafe to let a dog potter about. The garden furniture was so dirty we couldn't use that either so we couldn't use the garden we had wanted. The property is very well equipped, the sofas and beds are very comfortable however, the whole place needs cleaning. It has been very stylishly decorated, but we would have preferred a little less of the interior design touches and a little more care and attention to cleanliness and presentation."

"Holmfirth is a fantastic location, the pubs are wonderful and all the food we ate was top quality. There are plenty of independent shops and enjoyable walks. Lots to do for all.The cottage is really spacious and surprisingly modern while keeping the old fashioned touches you would expect of Nora Batty. I would reccomend to any Last of the summer wine fan but a handy family cottage for anyone wanting to visit a lovely village and its surrounding areas. The owner was very accommodating, installing a key box as we couldn't arrive until late on the Friday - thanks Neil for a brilliant experience, my husband won't forget turning 40!"
