Holiday Cottages In The Isle Of Wight To Rent

Holiday Cottages in the Isle of Wight

While it might only cover 30 square kilometres, the Isle of Wight manages to pack a lot into a small space. Choose one of our Isle of Wight Cottages as your holiday headquarters and you’ll be within easy distance of some superb beaches, including the one that used to be for the sole privilege of Queen Victoria. You’ll also find plenty of historical sites worth investigating, such as the spectacular ruins of a Roman villa or the imposing castles used by the likes of Charles I and King Henry VIII.

The Isle of Wight used to have a reputation for being a bit stuffy. However, things have changed and now the island attracts a much more vibrant class of visitor. Book one of our Isle of Wight Cottages in the early summer and you could find yourself rocking out at the Isle of Wight Festival, which still attracts big-name acts including the likes of Rod Stewart, Arcade Fire and Run DMC. If that sounds a bit too loud for you, hit the island in September and catch the melodic strains of the Classic Isle Festival, in which renowned classical musicians take the stage at the sublime setting of Northwood House.

What can I do on my holiday in the Isle of Wight?

If you’ve booked one of our holiday cottages in the Isle of Wight for the whole family, you’re going to need some entertainment. Luckily, the island isn’t short of an attraction or two. Head on over to the Dinosaur Isle at Sandown and your kids can get face-to-face with some fabulous fossils and some awesome animatronic dinosaurs. If your kids prefer looking at living beasts, your little monkeys can meet the little monkeys at Monkey Haven in Newport. Alternatively, Amazon World in Newchurch gives a taste of the tropics, without having to worry about the language barrier and inoculations.

We also have some beautiful holiday cottages in the Isle of Wight, which are perfect for couples looking to spend some quality time together. If it’s just the two of you, a trip to Queen Victoria’s old house is in order; Osborne House is stunning but its extensive, glorious gardens really put the icing on the cake. Picnicking is also a popular pastime amongst the romantically-inclined and there are plenty of idyllic spots to discover, such as the Needles at Alum Bay or the stunning Mottistone Woods.

What our customers are saying about our Holiday Cottages In The Isle Of Wight To Rent.

Christine - verified booking

"This property is the dirtiest, most dangerous and worst maintained holiday home we have ever rented. The photos provided do not show how it is now. They appear to have been taken years ago. Also, note that the ‘cleaner’ lives next door. I’ll just list the issues to save space. The 2 rear bedrooms have windows which open fully outwards with no child locks. So your kids could fall 15ft to the patio below. The bunk bed cannot be used safely because there isn’t space for the ladder to attach to the correct side. Your kids will have to climb over the end of the bed, while you hold the electric light out of the way.The fridge was last tested in 2008 and gets warm on the front, indicating a major fault. The electric cooker is almost usable (as you can barely see the dials) and dates from approx 2003. Getting the oven on is so convoluted they have to leave instructions. We spent the first 2 hours cleaning all the cutlery, cutlery drawer, a pile of plates and bowls and all the work surfaces. As they were all sticky, grimy and unusable. The sink doesn’t have a draining board, you have to use a metal tray as the side. A plate stand is shown in the photos but wasn’t there when we had the property. All the kitchen work surfaces are wood and are very old with cracks and black mould. A lot of the silicone and grouting is dirty, old or missing. The kitchen and dining room floor have bare floorboards, with noticeable gaps, which move and flex when walking on them, some parts stick up from the floor and could cause injury. The house is infested with slugs. We had slug trails on our shoes most mornings and even accidentally stood on one. You can’t use the dining room shown as they have crammed in an extra armchair and double settee. The latter serves to block the double patio doors which have no handles or visible locks and pose a large security risk. The downstairs toilet is in (not off) the kitchen, the shower screen was not clean and there was dirt and pubes in the shower tray and tiles were hanging off the wall. The door can accidentally lock itself, and yet, can only open halfway due to the full sized Mangle they have in the kitchen as an ornament, I presume. The upstairs bathroom was equally dirty except the toilet is almost unusable since the toilet roll holder is behind your left shoulder and you're literally crammed in between the shower and bath. All the windows were filthy both inside and out, throughout the entire house. As we all the mirrors both in the bathroom and elsewhere. It’s also completely stuffed with useless furniture and ornaments, which clearly never get cleaned. I counted 78 picture frames, but stopped counting ornaments after I got to nearly 100 in the first room alone. Despite sleeping 9, the dining room table can only seat 6, yet they have shoehorned in various chairs and settees to seat up to 38 across mainly the ground floor. The double room with single bed photo is staged as now it also has 2 wardrobes, 2 bedside tables and a small set of drawers. There is barely a foot of space around the double bed. The double wardrobe has no door handles and, in any case, one door is blocked by a bedside table. In the rest of the house, some the electrical sockets and switches date from the 60s and 70s. The snug area under the stairs is unusable as it full of pillows, plates fixed to the wall and ornaments. Some of the plates on display are bog standard dinner plates. Towards the back of the house, also not seen in the photos, is a large area of floor to ceiling shelves covering an area of approx 6-8m2 of wall and standing out almost a foot. It serves no purpose, other than to maybe hide some issue with the wall, looks like its been fitted by a 5 year old, and as you’ve probably guessed, it crammed with useless dirty ornaments. The house has 2 old writing bureau for some reason. One cupboard is tied shut and marked “Do Not Open” and an old Singer sewing machine forms the centrepiece of the living room. Plus points. The area is reasonably quiet, there’s a shop at the top of the road and a pub 10mins walk away."

"First visit to the Isle of Wight and my partner and her daughter came away wanting to move there! Sandrock is a wonderful, comfortable, well appointed cottage with excellent views to the rear and has clear signs of probably being someone's own holiday home given the quality of the home furnishings, kitchen, floor tiling etc. Sunrises at rear allowed most breakfasts to be eaten al fresco in rear garden. Watched fields being harvested everywhere as we travelled around. Two excellent village stores about a 15-20 minute walk into centre of Brighstone. Sandrock is adjacent to a public pathway so heightening the rear garden lower fence sections would have allowed us to relax more as we have a large but very friendly German Shepherd who liked to greet passersby at the fence which was disconcerting for some walkers. Access is via an unmade road with a slightly tight swing into the gated drive but we managed to drive our hired Hyundai i800 (roughly size of a Ford Transit) into the drive first time every time; anything much larger might struggle to do so. With care I also managed to turn it around on the L-shaped drive in about 5-7 manouevres so I could drive it out forwards."

"This is, without any doubt, the dirtiest place we have ever stayed in.The entire house, and in particular the kitchen, was very dirty and we had to wash the surfaces, the utensils, cutlery and plates before we were able to use them. The dishwasher leaks, so does the kettle. You need a torch to see the cooker dials. The patio door leading out from the dining room had no lock or handle and water came in when it was raining. The dining room chairs are broken and dangerous. One even fell apart whilst sitting on it, which easily could have ended in injury. The wooden floors and carpets need a proper deep cleaning too. The house is also infested by slugs, which could be found every day in the kitchen and the living room. Slugs are appearing from under the dish washer and the kitchen cabinet next to the cooker.Walls are dirty and holes in them can be found throughout the house, as well as in some of the ceilings. There are dead flies and dust on the windows, which are all dirty too.The bathrooms, quite frankly, should be ripped out and replaced. The shower in the shower room downstairs is broken and the upper shower cubicle is full of mould."

"Bathrooms- downstairs shower door would not open or close, rendering bathroom un usableupstairs - shower heads in both bathrooms leaked constantly, making waterspillages everywhere. Bathrooms were tired, and showers had many layers of white sealant ontop of each other allaround shower cubicles, flooring was lifting. ventilation fans did not work in each bathroom. There was no dishwasher in kitchen, but a hole where it had been, there was no instruction book for washing machine (there was an instruction book for non existant dishwasher)no storage for clothes in twin bedroom, we had to request a coffee table. There were signs on the decking saying 'slippery when wet' but the decking was actually trecherous when wet and we all had some nasty falls on it. It needs looking at"

"Our cottage was switched to another one on arrival, as there was some problem with the heating in the one we'd booked. It became apparent, however, that the replacement wasn't ready for occupation either, with the fire detectors going off - on reporting the fault, an engineer arrived to correct this. We also questioned a significant damp patch on the carpet in the main bedroom by the shower-room door, which the engineer confirmed he would report. The next morning, water was dripping through the lounge ceiling. The leak was repaired that day, although a mess remained on the living room ceiling throughout the week and was not corrected. The shower doors in the property were also very difficult to open/close and the showers were generally small and did not function well."
