"The owners is nice old chap very welcoming but the sad truth is the cottage has seen better days. The bathroom has black mold and smells. The fridge is worn out and runs continuously and does not keep things cold enough. It is so noisy it stops you sleeping at night. We gave up turned it off at night and went to the shops each day for fresh food. There is no freezer. The boiler is also very noisy. The lighting set up is ridiculous with all the upstairs and downstairs lights in the main areas on one circuit. Spot light shine in your face when watching TV. By contrast the kitchen area has no lights over the work service and is dark and dingy to the point of being dangerous to chop in. The sky light over the bed area has a blind but the sleeping area is open to the living area and skylight over that area has no blind or no means of closing it so you get woken up by daylight at 4.30 am at this time of year. There was no information as to things to do in the cottage or places to go.The garden is lovely but again no garden furniture to enjoy it so you are stuck inside.Overall the property is not to a suitable standard for renting out to,the public in its current state. With some work, new equipment and some thought it could be lovely."

"This was the ideal location for my wife and me. It is remote enough to provide peace and quiet but close enough to Inverness and the A9 to make exploring the area very easy. It has a great view, overlooking a field to the Cromarty Firth. S24781 is a fantastic house. It is very clean and tidy and looks very fresh. It is obviously well looked after. The house is well equipped and the owners have thought of everything - from a range of games for all the family to good books and DVDs. They have even provide the instruction manuals for all the devices in the house (DVD, TV, CD/Radio, central heating, etc.) The kitchen is modern and fully equipped, so you could easily cook a full meal for a family. We used the cottage as a base for travelling around the area and returning at night. We covered locations such as the isles of Harris and Lewis (via ferry from Ullapool to Stornaway), Kyle of Lochalsh, Aviemore, Pluscarden Abbey and local attractions such as Cawdor Castle, Fort George and Culloden. Channonry Point is a short drive from the house. This is the best place in the UK to sight dolphins, but I must confess we did not see any (wrong time of year)."

"Lovely house that looks recently decorated (mainly in wood), let down by a worn kitchen with not enough attention to detail (e.g. one frying pan that was so worn that we wouldn't use it and bought one in the supermarket. One old oven tray, old hob..) The stairs were slippy for my dogs so be careful if you've dogs with you.No information or welcome pack. The commercial Inn is the only dog-friendly pub in the area and it doesn't sell food and isn't open every night. The holiday would have been much better if there were places we could walk to with the dogs and have a meal.Nice beach walks and lovely area. Unfortunately we were there in March with thick snow and we found the upstairs and the hallway heating to be inadequate. A few additional heaters would have helped or at least having the coal fire available for use.I won't return as the main issue for me was finding things to do with my dogs without driving."

"On arrival the floors needed brushed/vacuumed, oven and grill were dirty, there was no sheet on the double bed, wall light had no bulb and shade was on a shelf and no handle on fridge door or dishwasher. However, Jacqueline promptly rectified the floors, oven, grill and bed sheet. The following day Shona secured the fridge handle but was unable to fix the dishwasher handle and said she had been unable to get a bulb for the wall light.Having said that the cottage is well decorated, there are lovely pictures on the walls, great shower and jacuzzi bath, the open plan upstairs is bright and airy and the views are fantastic. More knives and tea plates would have been useful but we managed. We had great weather and enjoyed walks along the beach every day. The owner was not there during our stay. It would have been nice to have somewhere outside to sit with a coffee or drink or to eat."

"Balintore has an award winning beach ,some nice walks and is close to some lovely towns and visitor attractions making it a nice area in which to stay. The house is a strange mix with a large kitchen and upstairs lounge which are quite pleasant. The bedrooms and bathrooms suffer from relatively poor quality/overused bedding and towels and an investment in these and improved curtains would improve things. Some of the windows appear to be locked with no keys apparent which could represent a bit of a fire risk. The Aga and central heating allowed us to enjoy good warmth.Mr Skinner, the owner , was friendly, attentive and well intentioned. Were he to invest as suggested, to improve certain quality items, the justification of the relatively high weeks rental would be enhanced. The house has potential but needs some monies spent on it."
