"Rose Cottage was in an ideal location for us visiting places around the area - Lewes, Brighton, South Downs South Coast etc, it was clean and well equipped, also a nice touch the owners of the property had left us a complimentary basket of goodies for us to appreciate Tea, Coffee, Biscuits, Sugar etc. and best of all 4 beers left in the fridge just the ticket after a long hot journey. We only met one of the owners Miss Jackson who was very helpful and hospitable and was a pleasure to meet. The minus points of the cottage were that it suffered at times from loud traffic noise from the main road situated close to the property although it wouldn't have been as noisy if we had kept the windows shut but as we were experiencing a heatwave we needed have the windows open.At the back of the property our bedroom suffered from a lack of light as there were some Leyandii trees only a few meters away blocking the light, maybe it would be an idea to cut the hight down a bit. The rear garden looked as if it needed a bit of maintenance, also we had two dogs and it wasn't as enclosed as we had expected it to be (open gaps,) basically the dogs could have easily escaped if we left them unattended for a moment. The cottage spec stated it slept 4 but there was only one lounge chair and sofa that seated 2 so it was a tight squeeze when we had relations stay with us for a couple of days. Apart from those discrepancies we really enjoyed our stay at Rose Cottage."

"We had a super holiday; Brooks Lodge is spacious and comfortable, Susie was very helpful in attending to some initial queries we had, and the weather could not have been more glorious!3 minor observations:1. The Wifi worked very well on days 1 and 3, but did not work at all on days 2 and 4.2. The tea-making provisions were more limited than we have had at other RR properties – just 6 tea bags at the bottom of a tin.3. The estate where Brooks Lodge is situated is off a road which gets extremely busy at certain times of day. To travel to/from anywhere on the coast or to any shops (there are none in Piddinghoe or any of the other nearby villages) it is necessary to drive on this road and then on a one-way system through Newhaven. The road from Brooks Lodge to Newhaven and Newhaven itself were totally gridlocked from mid-afternoon until early evening on each of the days we were staying. The only alternative would be a longer route going inland via Lewes."

"UK was experiencing a heatwave with record high temperatures during the entire 2 weeks of our stay!. Brooks Lodge has many large windows/glass doors. It felt like an oven in the house. There was only 1 fan for cooling. There was no shade on the deck, no umbrella! We could only get 1 channel on the TV. The heat was intolerable both inside & outside the house. It ruined the vacation.I realize that these were record high temperatures for UK. However, I think Rural Retreats should warn future summer occupants of this house. I personally suffered from heat exhaustion inside the property during the day. I'm sure all the RR properties were too warm indoors at this time but Brooks Lodge is almost all glass.Aside from this real problem, the house and location are beautiful. Indeed, I stayed there last year in cooler weather & found the place delightful."

"We were 26 people who stayed in this wonderful house. Where to begin: the living room and dining area are amazing. The photos on the internet almost Don't do the living room's size and seating justice. A really great area to fit everyone as was the dining area. The kitchen was great, had everything we needed loads of fridges, plates, glasses, dishwasher etc; a really nice touch that cleaning equipment included bin liners were provided...lots of houses don't provide this. There were loads of bathrooms which meant no one was waiting to use them. The location is fantastic, a short walk to the seafront or to the lanes/shopping. The contact with the owner and the company was excellent- we were always well informed of everything. If I needed a house with that many people again I would definitely book again!"

"cottage was lovely , there was nothing around for amenities apart from a pub 2 miles down the road , the cottage was right along side a very busy road and a busy junction roundabout just near by but you couldn't hear the traffic unless you were outside , the cottage was tidy and cleanish but care with the cleaning was needed , equipment was ok but odd things could be updated as it looks dated now , it not a very good place for walks unless you like walking along side the busy road as the nearby farmer has signs everywhere saying private land , there are plenty of shops nearby but you need a car to get to them ? , apart from that we d still stay there again but as I said needs updating abit"
