"This cottage is a lovely stone brick house in keeping with the rest of the village. A few things to point out. There was no hand soap in any of the toilets and no toliet cleaner we had to go and buy some. The cottage had insufficient towels also, I was in a double room and was only provided 2 shower towels and no hand towels to dry hands or put down on on the floor for when stepping out of the shower. I have rented many houses over the past few years and can always say I have recieved a welcome pack. This cottage had no welcome pack so don't expect any complimentary tea coffe sugar buscuits loaf of bread or pint of milk- there was nothing. One of the ovens does not work, this is stated in reviews from may/june time and has still not been fixed 6 months later. Its the oven on the left hand side. The water from the shower in the maim bathroom leaks through a hole where the seal has not been put on in the correct position. The owner will try to tell you that there is no leak. However I have emailed her photographs of the gap to prove its that and also taken sam the maintenance man up there to show him the leak. The main stairs have no light at the bottom and are very low half way down and need a sign saying mind your head. Many of our party banged there head. One of the bedrooms had a huge damp patch which dripped onto a bed below. Lastly one of our party fell down the wooden stairs from top to bottom and was unconcious for 5 minutes and cut her head open. We had to call an ambulance. The stairs need a sign stating 'very steep' or words to thst effect. They need carpeting to ensure they are not so slippery. They are wooden, very steep and painted in gloss - an accident waiting to happen and it did. I definately wouldn't rent this if you have kids... on a positive note the house was spacoius and in a lovely setting. It needs some updating so a lick of paint here and there and door knobs putting on etc. However the other health and safety issues i have raised need addressing as soon as possible. I have written my concerns to the owner regarding all the above and asked her to contact me back when they have been addressed. I am currently awaiting a response. Would I rent this property again. NO WAY."

"12 of us booked the house for a family long weekend. We had different ages in our group from 4 year olds up to 70+.The house was very interesting and full of character. It provided everything we needed from an equipment point of view and the kitchen was very well stocked to meet all our needs. The living room accommodated all of us comfortably and there were plenty of areas to sit and find some quiet time too! Bradnop itself is a very small hamlet and very quiet but you are within a short 5min trip to all the amenities you could possibly need in Leek. You are also within 20-30mins drive of Dovedale, Ilam, Peak Wildlife Park (excellent value for kids!) and the lovely Rudyard Lake. The hot tub was large, clean, well looked after and very welcome as a relaxing evening soak.In general it was clean and tidy when we arrived but the rooms and furniture are slightly old and getting a little shabby, but with young children this wasn't a bad thing really as we weren't constantly on edge making sure they didn't break anything.Couple of issues to note for future reference...the hot tub didn't heat up on the first day. Be prepared to only use this on day 2. It is also located in the garden with no overhead cover and overlooks the small village green by the Parish Hall so easily in view from lane and for people arriving for events in the hall! Not a problem really but maybe for those a bit more shy?One of the bedrooms is only accessible by going through another bedroom. Ok with kids. Not so good when with people you aren't as familiar with! The main bathroom did leak a little into the dining room as the shower screen didn't quite cover the main splashing. No serious issues from this but just to be aware. Also the main dining table only seats 8 people. Not so great when there is 12 of you (as advertised as the normal occupancy) wanting to enjoy each other's company over dinner. There is another table in the kitchen area that seats 4-6 and although in sight isn't next to the other table and we were advised not to move furniture around.Other than those niggles we were very satisfied and would consider S50586again."

"A bit mixed, and definitely not up to the normal standard of what I'd expect from this sort of site. The lodge itself was a good size. Hot tub was situated on a small deck with picnic table which backed directly into trees.Lighting in the cabin though was appalling. Using two cold and stark lights to light the living area just made the place feel cold and depressing. Had to use the one strip light in the kitchen to light the rest of the living area. Combined with the fact that the wood structure of the cabin is a warm colour, and the cold light doesn't illuminate well, it ended up very dark. The hot tub was good, albeit there wasn't the usual mechanism to lift the cover off, so we ended up having to do a bit of manual lifting which was a bit precarious to get the cover on and off. The cover was also in dire need of replacement and it just looked a bit scabby, and was dropping bits of polystyrene into the hot tub itself. The bed in the master bedroom has a solid end to it, so if you're any taller than 6 foot, then don't expect to be able to fit that well. The thermostat on the wall had the dial about 8 degrees off from what it actually would be set to, so if you set the temperature to 16 degrees (this is in August!), then it would actually be trying to heat to 23 or 24 degrees so it ended up very hot inside. A large corner sofa is enough to sit 4 comfortably, but there isn't enough light around to be able to read a book by, so expect to be sitting at the kitchen table if you want to be seeing anything. There is a washer/drier available (tablets available from the shop on site), but the lodge information folder is missing the page of the instructions from it which say which programme is which, so we had to do a bit of googling for that. There was enough cutlery and crockery for people, although only two mismatched eggcups meant that if we wanted boiled eggs, we did have to stagger breakfasts rather than doing them all in one go!The fridge was missing all the shelves in the door, so we couldn't put any bottles in there which made it a bit awkward to fit things in."

"On arrival, leaves that hadn't been swept for sometime, opened the door to a damp smell, which we found to be the shower that leaked into the dinning area (which needs more lighting but not where it leaks) they knew about this because of the mop and bucket they leave you, they will blame you for not putting the screen in the bath, which we did. The back of the toilet came off and wouldn't stop flushing on the day we arrived, called them and someone came out very quickly with some duck tape to fix it !!!! Crumbs on the table, dirty door on the oven, which when we said didn't work the man put his hand in the oven to check and told us it was only 12mths old, don't think so, we had burnt pizza for tea. The downstairs shower only ever got to luke warm and make it a quick one or you will flood everywhere. The cobwebs are older than a day, the one in the downstairs bedroom was massive and also a stained carpet. The hot tub is more a 5 person tub, cause if you put 8 in it the water comes out and if you still decide to go here after this review, take a step to get in it because they don't provide one because they are dangerous, believe me it's more dangerous without one and finally if your expecting to use the paddock that is shown to be huge and midsold on the pictures, I wouldn't bother, it's overgrown with wild flowers and the only thing that uses it are the bees. This place needs more than a little TLC and I strongly advice that the owners go and have a look around their properties. DO I RECOMMEND THIS PROPERTY....NO I DO NOT."

"Beautiful location and close to lots of lovely walks and local attractions. We stayed here with several different family members ranging from 2-60 years old. The cottage was very quaint and the hot tub well liked we had a very enjoyable stay however we had several issues and looking back through previous reviews it seems these have been going on unrectified for a number of months and hence the reason for not giving a higher rating. The downstairs shower was lukewarm at best and within a minute the tray was flooded making it unusable. The dishwasher didn't work properly despite rinsing the plates and putting on high temps so we ended up washing everything by hand which was a lot for 12 people. It would have been nice to have a few pleasentries like soap in the bathrooms, tea and coffee on arrival, we have stayed at other places and there is usually a small hamper on arrival which is really lovely - maybe a suggestion for future guests. There were no matches or lighters to start the lovely wood burner however we did mention this and were quickly brought matches which was great. It would be worth knowing before hand that to get to a bedroom you need to go through another to get there - helpful for planning where to put everybody especially children. Stair gates would also be of benefit as the two sets of stairs are quite steep."
