"We spent our honeymoon at S57595s and had a brilliant time! The owners were friendly and helpful and proved to be invaluable fonts of local knowledge into the bargain. We were treated warmly and very generously, and had a wonderful (and delicious!) time whenever their path and ours crossed.S57595s is one half of the building, with The Mews composing the other. We were glad to be staying in S57595s as it was all on one floor and had the bigger bathroom, but others may prefer The Mews for its larger floor plan and wood-burning stove. Either way, the whole place is clean, modern - and very, VERY warm! We were there in sub-zero temperatures and were always warm and toasty the second we stepped in the door. The cottage is in an ideal location, and offers stunning views over the Lake of Menteith right from the front door. (Or even from the bed, if you've a mind to keep your curtains open!) The track up from the main road down by the lake can be a little worrying in winter when there's ice about, but if we managed it in our little hatchback, I think it'd be fine for just about anyone. (Our hosts offered to take us up and down when it was at its worst, too - fortunately we didn't need to take them up on their offer.)A wide variety of shops (including a chemist and petrol station) are just five miles down the road in Aberfoyle. There's an incredible local restaurant a mile down the road, too! When we were first picking our accommodation, we were torn between taking S57595s for its quality and view, or another property in Tarbet for its proximity to Loch Lomond. As it was, we ended up much preferring the Trossachs side of the area anyway - for which S57595s is ideally located. Simply head through Aberfoyle and up The Duke's Pass for stunning views and easy access. (Ben A'an is that way too, and offers an excellent first mountain climbing experience for novices like ourselves.)We definitely plan to stay at S57595s again in the future - only this time in summer, so that we can see this wonderful area of the country at another time of year. What a wonderful honeymoon we had."

"What a gem of a find. The location of the cottage was lovely, very quiet and great views. Contact with the owners was easy and we found them very pleasant and helpful, especially in the directions given to find the cottage. A welcome pack was on the table when we arrived, along with a bottle of prosecco and preserve in the fridge. It was very clean and had all the amenities anyone could possibly need, including items of kitchen cutlery that you sometimes struggle to find in other places - a lot of thought had obviously gone into the furnishing and equipment supplied.Although you have to travel to local supermarkets, this was not a problem as we were out and about anyway. It was a pleasure to come back and relax in the evening, looking at the views and watching some of the wildlife. We were originally going to take our dog with us but at the last moment, he was looked after at home. However, had he come with us, the garden would have been great for him, not to mention nearby walks. We would certainly recommend this cottage and look forward to going back, hopefully some time next year."

"We had a 3 nights stay at S85679 as a surprise for my husband's 60th birthday. Everything was explained by the lady who met my daughter there. Gareth (the owner) also popped in later to make sure that everything was ok, which was a lovely touch. The cottage was spotless and very comfortable. It was cosy even though there are plenty of rooms so that you can have your own space if needed. The bedrooms are large and comfortable. The kitchen is great. Living areas are large but feel cosy, and are very comfortable. The hot tub is a wonderful addition to the cottage. We used it at all times of the day, but sitting out under the stars was lovely and the view during daylight hours is peaceful.Only reason I gave it a 9 for comfort and equipment was a lack of what I class as basic kitchen utensils and equipment, but I know that Gareth has rectified that now. We would all happily return to Hill End Cottage for another stay."

"The cottage was historically interesting, beautifully clean, and Jenette was friendly and helpful. There were some downsides, though I feel mean mentioning them. The back garden was not very dog-proof, despite the addition of a couple of gates that our cockapoo bounded past immediately; the stairs were very steep; the bed was softer than we were used to; and the kitchen was a bit cramped. Equipment levels were inconsistent: there must have been about 50 plates but only two forks, and we ended up arranging our groceries on the worktop because the cupboards were so full of other stuff. The TV and DVD were not connected when we arrived, so we had to pull the units out and disconnect the Freesat to free up the scart cable. There were three radios but they were all non-working and ornamental. Overall we felt we were squatting in someone else's home rather than being given the space to make it our own."

"A comfortable and pleasant place to spend a week. Beautiful feeling of isolation in the best possible sense - quiet, peaceful and an estate to wander around...but Tesco is 2 miles down a country road! S70052 has a satisfying sense of space for a one-bedroom cottage. We had a warm welcome from Adrian and a pleasant conversation about the estate. He invited us to pay a visit up at the main house to view the Old Stables apartment, which we did. The apartment is next on our list! Gilminscroft is well situated for exploring Ayrshire and beyond - Ayr, Glasgow, Arran, the Clyde coast. However, one of our best trips was walking around Gilminscroft itself after a glass of wine. Just don't forget your camera, as I did. We enjoyed the cottage itself. It is well appointed. The books, prints and ornaments add the perfect touch. In short, we had a splendid week and would not hesitate to return to Gilminscroft."
