"My husband, two kids (girl aged 8 and boy aged 3.5) and I just spent a wonderful 10 days at Shafts Barn. We are from Singapore and despite having been to London multiple times, we have never driven out of the city into the English countryside. And what a lovely introduction we have been given by Phil, JIll and their pretty barn! The barn is very well equipped with all the peripherals that you'd need for a restful stay. The kitchen was well used and we cooked a simple dinner every night. Kids had DVDs, cable TV, games and books to keep them occupied. And I loved the range of magazines and the Mary Berry cookbook! All the taps were fitted with a filter and that gave us drinking water from the tap. The cottage was sufficiently warm and the kids were able to have a soak in the bath tub every day despite it being winter. The beds were clean and very comfortable. The hosts: very kind and friendly couple who were ready to give a spot of advice or guidance whenever we asked. Prior to arrival, Jill sent me a whole host of links to places our family may want to visit. She also helped check out car rental options. On the day of arrival, we had a spot of trouble finding the barn as the GPS wouldn't let us input the appropriate postal code but Phil led us back on the right route through verbal instructions on the mobile phone! Without a doubt, Shafts Barn at West Meon ranks high for us in the accommodations we have booked. It is relatively inexpensive (compared to the apartments we stayed at in Bath and London). Most importantly, we all had a great time bonding as a family. The kids were never bored and the adults were well rested. Thank you Jill and Phil! We hope to visit again! Best wishes and Merry Christmas!"

"We stayed in the Courtyard Cottage for a long relaxing weekend with our 2 dogs and we all thoroughly enjoyed it and didn’t want to leave. Gill was very friendly and helpful when I called to arrange key collection which is pick up via a Keysafe outside the property. Gill did pop round to make sure all was well a little later when we had settled in. We knew then that she was easily contactable if we needed anything but then she left us alone. Thank you for the treats for us and the dogs very welcoming. The dog bowls was a nice touch. There is parking for 2 cars right outside the front door. These cottages are in a lovely quiet location. Pub in walking distance that provides food. Pretty church just down the round. Great Views around the cottages and there is the use of a lovely Walled garden next to the cottages (dogs not allowed). There is decent wifi within this property. The superking bed was very very comfortable which I’m sure the twin room beds would have been too but on this occasion it was just the two of us. The place kept us lovely and warm as it was a cold weekend that we went. This is a good property to bring dogs as there is a small but secure garden and walks on the doorstep. Table and chairs on the paved patio area to enjoy the views if the weather was better as we had mainly rain but that didn’t dampen our stay. Love the idea of the Laundry room and Boot room separate from the cottages. We will definitely be back."

"We had a lovely week at The Barn, everything we needed was there and the accommodation has a very homely feel. We tended to spend most of our time there in the the kitchen/diner, nice comfy chairs and a lovely AGA.The garden area is safe and secure, perfect for our little dog, and there was a safe and convenient place to park.We spent our week visiting family and friends in the area, and also visited Houghton Lodge at Stockbridge, Mottisfont Abbey at Romsey and Gilbert White's house at Selborne, (literally just up the road). We found some lovely places to take our dog for walks, there is certainly plenty to see and do in the area, and so many gardens, pubs etc. are dog friendly.Thankfully we were blessed with superb weather for the week, and as we visited in May, the birdsong and the dawn chorus was an absolute joy. I wish I could have recorded it.All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our week and would certainly return. And for anyone who is apprehensive about using an AGA, don't be. It's really easy, in fact it couldn't be easier and the results are excellent. I just wish I had room for one, I've become a convert like so many others. We received a very nice welcome pack which was much appreciated, and the owner Mrs. Nettle was very welcoming and ensured that we had everything we needed. The Barn is definitely the nicest place we have stayed so far, and I'm sure we will return in due course."

"We loved staying in the Barn. It feels right as soon as you step through the door into the kitchen/diner. At this time of year the Aga is like a warm welcoming hug. The Barn is spacious, warm, comfortable and peaceful, being situated in a very quiet lane. Although opposite the owner’s home it has no windows on that side so you feel completely private indoors. It is very clean and excellently equipped. Whatever you want, it will be there in one of the many cupboards or drawers. In fact there was so much “stuff” that there wasn’t an empty cupboard for any food which isn’t suitable for putting in the large ‘fridge/freezer. Perhaps this could be addressed by removing some of the wine glasses! Even the hardest of drinkers would be hard pressed to use a fraction of what is provided! The sofas and bed in particular, were really comfortable. (The bed is two singles zipped together. This takes up a lot of space so remember to duck your head getting round one side to avoid hitting the sloping ceiling.)The bidet needs fixing. Water only dribbles out and the pop up waste doesn’t work.Wine, beer and biscuits were provided in the welcome pack but not milk or tea so come with all your provisions as you can’t just pop out to a shop.Cupboard space and bidet aside, this is a quality holiday home and feels like home.We would not hesitate to stay here again."

"My wife and I go on holiday with my reasonably fit 75 year old Mum every year and generally stay in high end self catering places, so the arrangement of a double and a twin room suited us well. We were attracted to Shafts Barn because of the access to The South Downs, New Forest for simple walks, Isle of Wight for a day trip and Winchester if the weather was unkind. I think even London is possible had we needed it. However, the Barn itself was beautifully presented, comfortable, very well equipped and felt not just new, but done to a high quality. There is an extra fridge and freezer room in an outbuilding should you need and also a patio complete with furniture, fire pit and barbecue where we sat snugly late into the evening listening to the Tawny Owls calling in the adjacent wood. Just lovely. The owners, Phil and Jill, were great with communication before we got there, allowed us to deliver on line shopping to arrive before we did (half a day saved) and were that unusual balance of attentive without being obtrusive. The location is quiet, but there are amenities around in the village: of note are a good gastro pub (book on a weekend) and a lovely cafe behind the village shop (you MUST try the homemade lemon polenta cake). All in all, simply the best self catering accommodation we have yet found. I can't recommend it enough."
