"The cottage occupies a fantastic position looking over Haltwhistle and it is well placed for Hadrian's wall etc. Our first impressions were that the cottage was a lot bigger than the pictures had suggested which was great. The kitchen was nice and clean and the toilets and the whole house smelt clean. The disappointing thing to me was the lack of little touches. There was no soap. The little welcome basket was just a pack of tea and some biscuits and a few dog eared files of coffee and similar. Other self catering places do provide basic needs like soap in individual packs to tide you over until you can shop and of course a welcome bottle of plonk and a local speciality cake or something would be so much nicer. The kitchen equipement was very basic too and the bedding was quite poor quality. However the owners were some very nice people and really wanted to please. So yes I would recommend but would just forewarn that a few basic necessities would be best taken with you."

"Hexham House is a hidden gem in central historic Hexham and offers superb accommodation right on the doorstep of all the major Northumbrian attractions. This apartment forms part of a very sympathetic renovation project and is beautifully light and spacious with everything you need for a self catering stay. Gorgeously comfortable bed, spacious living area and a practical bathroom coupled with wonderful views of the Abbey, bowling green and gardens beyond. Cam and Carrie and brilliant caretaker hosts and respond quickly to any requests both before and during your stay. On the doorstep and all walkable are major supermarkets including Tesco, Waitrose and M&S plus a bounty of restaurants and coffee house, both independent and high street names. Hexham itself is very friendly, catering to all types of visitor so it all feels very welcoming. There is no doubt that we will be back and are have no hesitation in recommending Hexham House (and apartment 5!)."

"The apartment was very well presented and was spotless clean .I do however have issue with the kitchen area .It does not have a kitchen it was just a space between the living area and the bedroom .No storage facilities for food and no preparation area .I did mention this and was provided with an oversink chopping board.I wanted to put something in the oven so i removed the roasting tin and other trays that were in there but the only place to put them was balancing on top of the bin. Make sure you take a mirror because there is no were to dry your hair .When I questioned this it was suggested I used the socket outside the bathroom and use the mirror in there but I wasnt so sure this was an entirely safe option .I think on the whole this property is lovely but it should not be described as having a fully equipped kitchen."

"Excellent apartment in a great location. Nice touch in leaving us a box of chocolates, milk & fruit for our arrival. Well furnished, modern and very cosy. Little bit of noise in master bedroom on the Saturday night (people going home from a night out) but not overall nothing major (10-15 minutes).Would definitely return to these apartments and this apartment, in particular. Finally, make sure you read the arrival instructions, unlike me who just arrived expecting to find someone there to greet us. They are very easy & clear to follow, you just need to read them in advance!"

"We had a lovely relaxing short break at Widows Cottage. It was easy to find just off the a-road, and Phil was there to greet us and show us in to an already lit fire. The cottage had all the amenities you would need for a much longer stay, and after settling in Phil came back to talk through everything we needed to know. The cottage was a great base to get out walking from, and very cosy in the cold evenings. Although just off an A-road you don't get any noise. The gravel track up to the cottage is pretty steep and bumpy, but my low powered hatchback managed it fine."
