"We stayed here the second week in September and it was a perfect place for a chilled out holiday. We were a group of 7, 6 humans (adults) and a dog, and we all loved it. The cottage is very spacious (having an en-suite, a bathroom and a shower room meant not having to schedule bathroom usage), well decorated and clean, the bedding and towels were super fresh. Although the house is old it is also very well equipped with all mod cons. Wifi is available and worked well in most parts of the house. There is a big range oven and hob, dishwasher, washing machine, a tumble dryer, a microwave, a bean to cup coffee machine (which will also take ground coffee), a couple of cafetières and plenty of crockery and cutlery and even dog bowls were provided. It's in a lovely secluded spot, with a bubbling beck which can be heard from the cottage and a great outdoor space with a barbecue and a chiminea so you can make the most of the milder nights even coming into autumn. We did 2 walks straight from the house which were super, we didn't meet a soul on either of these walks and the views were fabulous. We also drove out to Conniston, Ulverston and Ravenglass none of which were far away.Ruth was always on hand if we had any questions and had left us a welcome pack with bread, milk and biscuits and there was also kindling and firewood for the wood burners (there are two rooms with working wood burners). We had a Tesco delivery (they were the only ones who delivered there in Sept. 2019) ordered for an hour after we arrived and this turned up promptly and saved us carting too much stuff with us.At the risk of stating the obvious - the whole of our party would highly recommend this cottage! We didn't want to leave it and we will definitely be back :-)"

"A very comfortable cottage with a large pretty garden. Plenty of room for two couples with one toddler and a dog. Great position for the southern lakes with plenty of dog friendly pubs and shops around, though not in walking distance. The cottage is well appointed and clean. The only thing to be aware of is an un-fenced river at the bottom of the garden and no fence between the cottage garden and Sunny Beck’s next door. This in no way spoiled the holiday but did mean constant chasing after the toddler and dog. With this in mind it’s probably better for adults as there is also currently no cot or high chair available which whilst not really a problem, does mean packing two additional bulky items.Having said all that, I would highly recommend Riverside Cottage because for us, the positives heavily outweigh the minor inconveniences."

"When we arrived at the cottage we expected it to be warm, but in fact it was really cold had to ring the owners to see why it was so cold,as they had asked what time we would be there so they could get it warm for our arrival. The kitchen was well stocked, but it was so small and no where really to prepare food, and also to store. The bathroom was very small and had a washing machine in there, which restricted sitting on the loo!! as you had to sit sideways!!!Suggest dishwasher is removed from kitchen and washing machine put in its place.also suggest that a curtain could be hung to keep drafts out of living room, plus no bedside light in one bedroom, these are all points that were made in visitor book 18 months ago and nothing has been done."

"Jackson’s Barn is a lovely cottage to stay in. It was comfortable, clean and the views from the windows are stunning. The welcome tray had a lovely selection of things on it. The cottage is an interesting farm building conversion with a lot of history and Jacksons Farm is mentioned in the ‘Swallows and Amazons’ story. To give a score for local amenities is unfair as we stayed at Water Yeat because we wanted to be ‘away from it all’ and loved where the cottage is. Ulverston isn’t such a long drive away and there is a Booths supermarket there plus other shops. Coniston isn’t a long drive away either in the opposite direction and that has a small ‘supermarket’ which sells things for people who are self catering or camping."

"Lovely cottage, very well equipped with a lovely welcome basket of goodies. The beds were comfortable. The downside was it was very cold, we struggled to heat the house and had to double up on duvets, to stay warm at night. The en-suite bathroom in particular was very cold, a very large room with only a towel rail for heating. I was expecting a large garden from the pictures but there wasn’t any outside space safe to let out dogs off the leads. The owners were very friendly and helpful and thankfully lit the wood burners on our first night. Some maps for walks straight from the property would be great, we found the fab stone circle by chance only a 40 min walk away!"
