What our customers are saying about our Coastal Cottages In Underskiddaw To Rent.
- Mr Allcock, August 2018 - verified booking
"The bedrooms are all large and have en-suite bathrooms and, in addition, there is a large family bathroom with a spa bath. The kitchen has all that you need to self cater and there is also plenty of fridge/freezer space. The utility has a washer and drier plus a separate downstairs WC. There are three reception rooms to allow for space if needed - two of them have TV/video provided. In addition, there is a wi-fi link available. There is lots of space to park cars off-road to the rear of the house. It is in a great location and has superb views across the Solway Firth. There are two excellent pub/bistro in the village with menus that cater for all tastes. The information from the owner was excellent with plenty of detail making it easy to find and access the property. The down-side is that there are lots of irritating issues that have not been addressed despite being listed in the house maintenance book over a significant period of months such as lots of light bulbs needing replacement; fridge seal damaged and allowing the fridge to leak; the drier works but is exceptionally noisy and needs attention; the Jack & Jill bathroom shower needs attention; there is no 'pole' to open the Velux windows in the annex bedroom; the main dining table can only accommodate eight people although the house can accommodate more; there is insufficient garden furniture for all occupants (the large picnic table is wooden and damaged) and there are no patio umbrellas available (the large one at the property is broken and dumped at the rear of the house). It may seem churlish to make note of these 'little' problems when we have had such an excellent holiday but, if you are paying a premium price for what is advertised as a luxury and premium property, you expect these issues to be addressed and not left untended for months and months. It might be that, having put the property up for sale, that the owners no longer care about their holiday renters??"

"Nice and clean, rustic old cottage, with a lovely garden out the back which we couldn't use cause of the rain unfortunelty. Also at the time there appeared to be quite a few spiders around the property, as it was the time of year / season for them, which there is nothing you could do about that.Nice pleasant views And the bedroom was a nice size. The bathroom could do with being updated as was looking a bit tatty, but it was fine and most importantly clean. Friendly owners and in a pleasant country side / rural location near the coast. The cottage isn't right in the centre of the Lake District national park, however it was within good driving distance to Keswick about 20 minutes ish and the northern lakes. We like grasmere so drove there a few times took about 50 minutes. It's also about a 10/15 minutes drive to maryport on the coast, not a lot there. Cockermouth town centre seems nice, however we found it difficult to find parking as you need to go in and get a permit from one of the shops I assume? so we didn't really get out and explore. The cottage was dog friendly which was good. We tried to have a meal at the ship pub which is opposite the cottage. However they don't allow dogs in (who doesn't allow dogs in a pub in the lakes!) so had to go and get a takeaway from the Indian restaurant in cockermouth centre, which was very nice. A good stay for the price would recommend."

"Enjoyed a four night stay at the Gamekeepers Cottage, impressed by the standard of the accommodation and friendliness of the hosts. Property is set in the grounds of the hall, and as made clear in the description the main grounds are not open to guests, there is however an area of garden space and terrace which guests can use. There is ample crockery and cooking utensils, the kitchen is large and spotlessly clean. Bedrooms are large with comfortable beds and quality linen. Bathrooms are similarly well designed and fitted. Whilst it was not a problem for our party I should mention that there are steps up to the front door and a further steep flight of stairs up to the bedrooms and bathrooms (no downstairs WC) so anyone with reduced mobility may have a problem. We enjoyed our stay at the property, several lakes, Keswick, and the coast can be reached within a half hour drive. Sadly there is little to do within walking distance of the property, there are no shops, but there is a local pub but it is closed on Monday and only serves food Thursday - Saturday."

"Gamekeepers Cottage is a private wing of Tallentire Hall, and goodness me, we were all flabbergasted when we arrived, it's so spacious and beautiful, plus everything was as clean as a whistle, too. There were muffins waiting for us when we arrived from our drive all the way from Essex. As you look around, you really start to notice the consideration that has gone in to catering for your every need, and a few extra touches besides. Cockermouth is very close-by, there's a handy guide folder with various local suggestions, and brochures in the cottage on activities in the Lakes. The cottage has a lovely garden at the back, all fixtures, fittings, appliances were top notch as well. The friendly owners that live in the main part of the house are happy to leave you to your own devices, but at the same time are approachable and helpful. So if you like high ceilings, immaculate cleanliness, beautiful sofas, huge TV, WIFI, pleasant grounds, and a convenient location, this is the cottage for you. We slept 5 easily."

"We spent a week here with the family for October half term and we were really impressed with this cottage which was very well equipped, very comfortbale and furnished to an excellent standard, the WIFI was good to as we have stayed in places before where it has not been that great. The owners lived on site and were very friendly, helpful and welcoming and the cottage had some lovely extra touches over and above what you would expect(dressing gowns, locally sourced toiletries and wine in the welcome pack!). The cottage and grounds are beautiful but there is only a very basic pub in the village bit Cockermouth is only a short 3 mile drive away which has lots of independent shops, takeaways plus a Sainsburys and Aldi. We would definityely recommend here and would like to come back in the future."
