"When we arrived at Deer Close a jetty was under construction on the property's waterfront. We were not informed this was to take place. The presence of heavy construction equipment and materials and the presence of the workmen restricted our access to and enjoyment of the waterfront. The construction involved pile driving and chain sawing. The pile driving, basically knocking tree trunks into the lake bed, was extremely loud. The equipment was present when we arrived on the Friday until the following Wednesday. The temperature of the hot water was dangerously high, close to boiling. The hot water tank made funny noises. An electrician sent round advised us to run the hot water if this happened again. The hot water tank in the bathroom is unlagged, would be dangerous to touch and makes the bathroom unbearably hot.The sitting room patio doors cannot be opened, notes on the doors say "lock faulty so that window cannot open". These huge south facing windows give as one would expect a lovely view of the lake and mountains. However on a sunny day they trap the heat making the sitting room unusable. We would open the two small sitting room windows and the house front door to try to get a through draft but to no effect. We found we had to close the curtains even on just a warm day removing the view."

"We much enjoyed staying at the "Ticket Office" with it's historical associatons.Breakfast and other meals on the "platform" was great ! The holiday home was equipped to a high standard and very well thought out. And we would not hesitate to stay there again.Usually the Lake District can be damp and chilly but we enjoyed unexpectedly hot weather which was just wonderful !But it had an unexpected minor consequence. We could not turn off the heating which was organised by the owners from their phone being controlled by "nest". A phone call sorted it but it may be better to have a system that can be fully controlled from the cottage. Likewise because it was so hot ( which we loved) we wanted to open windows in the bedroom and living room but they were permanently fixed because of their age and fragility, but it meant the bedroom was airless and stuffy. This could be rectified, I guess. However, apart from these very minor issues (which it might be helpful for other holiday makers to know about) this is a very special, top quality holiday let which we highly recommend, give 5stars to, and look forward to going again."

"The view from this cottage is amazing, unrivalled, and the private lakeside garden and jetty was a huge bonus and enjoyed most nights. The cottage itself is functional and clean but with no special touches or luxuries. The bathrooms are dated and much in need of a major overhaul. The property has its own water supply from a well and whilst this shouldn't be a deal breaker we spent one whole (long) day with no water, electricity or ability to flush a toilet because a fuse blew and shut off all water supply plus electricity. We contacted the owner, who was less than helpful but did wish us 'good luck'. The cottage hire company were responsive when we eventually got hold of them and did source an electrician - but sadly this did waste a whole day of our holiday, which wasn't great with kids. That said, I'm sure this doesn't happen frequently and if the bathrooms were updated then we would definitely love to come back."

"This is a great place to stay! Very cosy, with a well equipped kitchen (but take a knife sharpener!), comfy beds and a large living room with a huge tv. We didn't use the garden as it was October and windy and wet, but it was lovely watching the local birds splashing about in the pond at the back, and I imagine the planting looks great in the summer. There are good walks to Dow Crag and Coniston Old Man straight out of the front door, and more leisurely expeditions to Coniston Water and the ferries are very easy too. We also went to Ravenglass and rode on the railway - a 45-minute drive. Torver is tiny but has two pubs within staggering distance, a deli for when you can't be bothered to make your own breakfasts or packed lunches, and what may be the only telephone box in the UK that's been converted into a fish tank! Highly recommended."

"My husband and I have just spent the week here with our Dog Daisy and have had a great time for the second year in a row. The Ticket Office is in the perfect location next to the Church House Inn and you can walk the 3 or so Miles into Coniston without having to use the main road. The property shares a lovely garden with the neighbouring cottage and garden furniture is provided to enjoy the sun, the wildlife and on a clear night the magnificent sky. The cottage consists of a large bedroom, sitting room, bathroom and a small but very well equipped kitchen. The village of Torver is lovely and a great location for exploring Coniston and you can also climb the Old Man of Coniston almost from the door, a walk that we did and thoroughly enjoyed. We plan to return for a third visit next year."
