What our customers are saying about our Large Cottages In Thropton To Rent.

"The location was great, but the cottage itself wasn't very well equipped. There were only 4 pegs on the washing line for a party of 7 people. 1 dishwasher tablet, 1 bin liner, 1 dishcloth, 1 tea towel, no washing powder is very miserly in our opinion. We've stayed in far smaller places that were much better equipped and don't appreciate having to buy pegs, bin liners and kitchen foil when away on holiday... I'm sure the amount we paid for our stay should have covered these essentials. We thought the lighting in the kitchen was really poor. Even expected items like a wooden spoon were missing. The cottage smelled strongly of dog...not good for a party with no dogs. We loved the location and the building was spacious and reasonably furnished. Couldn't find any dvd library. We noticed that many comments in the guest book have not been implemented... Like the shelf in the bathroom that might be useful has still not materialised even though it's been asked for since 2009. We think it's a shame to let down such a beautiful place with stingy management and penny pinching. A better welcome pack and some finishing touches as well as an eye for the essentials are all that is needed to make the perfect holiday getaway. Maybe the owners need to sacrifice £20 a week of their profit to make all the difference? "

"We had a great weekend staying in this warm and spacious house over easter weekend. It sleeps 10 but there was only 8 of us. Fantastic scenery and surroundings- perfect for walkers. There were a few cobwebs in the downstairs toilet but was overall very clean. The bedding is really good quality which makes for a comfortable sleep. Plenty of fluffy towels are provided aswell.Generally really well kitted out although we could have done with some extra cutlery as after we had dinner it meant we didn't have enough for breakfast the next morning. A mop also would have been useful. The owner was easily contactable and there was a really nice touch with a bottle of wine and some posh chocolates left for us on arrival. He also kindly left a bag of charcoal as I had advised him we may have a BBQ- which thankfully with the great weather we did!Great cottage for large group with great garden!"

"The East Wing is an imposing property and the "wow" factor as you enter the wing and wander through the magnificent rooms is one you will not forget for a very long time, if ever. The décor and attention to detail of the owners gives the East Wing a very comfortable and homely feeling, especially once you have lit the open fire in the drawing room and dropped the blinds. Whilst the "local amenities" are not within walking distance, the Shell station in Powburn is very well stocked, is a quick trip in the car and much nearer than the supermarkets in Alnwick. But order your groceries on-line with the "taste the difference" supermarket - much easier. Visits to Bamburgh, Holy Island, Cragside House, Walkworth Castle and Rothbury village all add to the Northumberland experience. A fabulous property, in a fabulous county."

"The central-heating thermostat is... guesswork, at best. No instructions, and it seems to keep on resetting itself every few hours. Not a massive inconvenience or hassle, but... not a smooth hassle-free experience either. For me personally, none of the sofas were overly comfortable - again, not a massive problem, but a constant niggle. And finally, if you (Sykes and/or the property owner) are going to make the renter get £100 in cash for the 'housekeeping bond', at least make the effort to collect it. Or just sack off the requirement completely. Either way. But making *such* a big deal about it (it's on every confirmation, and on the description page on Sykes) and then not bothering about it again just makes it feel like "Well, that was pointless and annoying"."

"This cottage had plenty of room for our family of five. Checking in and out was extremely simple and the people running the place were very friendly and welcoming - we felt at home. The cottage location was perfect for our day trips throughout North East Northumberland. The kitchen had all amenities we needed to prepare meals, do laundry, dishes, etc. The garden has a tennis court that the kids used very often and both bathrooms in the cottage were huge; the showers were great! The property was beautiful, with great views of the moorlands from our bedroom, peacefully quiet evenings and a very comfortable lounge area. If/when we return to the UK, we will stay here again without hesitation."
