"We chose this cottage partially due to being dog friendly, however when we arrived there were many restrictions requested relating to how the property could be used i.e not leaving the dog in the property alone and not allowing the dog upstairs, but not providing a stair gate. We had brought our own. The sercurity in the garden was not great as the dog could have easily accessed gardens on either side. There were dogs in the gardens on either side. The condition of the road to the property was poor. Many potholes. Wasn't suitable for walking the dog as the weather was poor and the road is not tarmaced the dog was filthy after every walk and needed to be washed down to keep the property clean. There were no blinds on the velux windows in the bedrooms. One bedroom only had a small lamp with a bulb, the ceiling light and second lamp had none. There are no mirrors upstairs for drying your hair. There were no toilet roll holders anywhere. The main door from hall to the living room is not correctly fitted and doesn't open properly and has to be forced, risking damage. The kitchen door didn't latch properly. Last but not least the smell from the neighbouring cowshed prevents enjoyment of the out door seating area. This had been noted a few times in the visitors book."

"We had an excellent new year holiday at the Gun Room in the grounds of Newstead Abbey. We were a family group of 8 people and the property was ideal for our requirements. The location is excellent with plenty to do in the surrounding area. We visited the Major Oak at Edwinstowe, Nottingham and Southwell Minster. The size of the property was perfect with plenty of room for our group to spread out in the different areas of the house. The kitchen is well equipped and we had several meals for 8 which we were able to accommodate. We were very impressed with the attention to detail in the house and the quality of the furniture and fixtures. Our grand children were also very impressed with the visiting peacocks and enjoyed feeding them each morning. Obviously being winter there was a limit to how much we used the garden area. However its easy to imagine how pleasant this would be at warmer times of the year. A very big thank you to Malcolm and Steve who did everything they could to make our stay as comfortable as possible. The welcome hamper was very much appreciated along with their advice and assistance when needed. We very much hope to visit the Gun Room again at some stage in the future."

"Where do I start, I booked this house to meet up with my 4 uni friends, their partners and children. We had a fantastic time. As soon as you enter, the drive up to the house is very impressive and the pictures do not do it justice. The house was massive, plenty of space that you did not feel you were in each other’s way/space. Plenty of seating around the dining table so we could all eat together and plenty of seating in the lounge so the adults could have a drink together while the children were in bed. Kitchen was a great size and well equipped for big groups. The games room was outstanding and such a luxury to have - the men definitely had fun in there playing on the pool table, snooker table, table tennis table and darts board. Because we had children we drove to Markeaton Park on the Saturday which was only 20/25mins away. We found the location perfect, nice and quiet but only a little drive away from shops, pubs and parks. We loved this place that much that we are booking again for next year."

"Great stay at the cottage we spent a great week with family and friends. the house is very cute and very well designed. Very nice garden and the beds are great ! But .... There was no enough hot water for 2 showers so we had to wait 3 hours in between showers .... and nobody to deal with problem / no gate in the garden so we could not leave the dog out side / the great AGA stopped working during our stay so we could not cook / there is not enough bowls or containers to be able to cook or make cakes or appetizers .... / no dry wood for the fire so we had only wet logs in the garden / no check in was made so we did not know what was the wifi code we had to look for it but then the wifi worked very well / no information on where to put the trash... simple information that could be written on a welcome book or said with a nice check in in the house. Still we keep nice memories of our nice stay at the cottage."

"We have had a lovely holiday in this beautiful barn conversion. It is comfortable, spacious, well insulated and finished to a very high standard. A few little things would make it perfect, there were only six knives and forks, making dining a little difficult, we had to rinse our cutlery between courses. There were only three pans not really enough for cooking a meal with a selection of vegetables. Light bulbs needed replacing, the latch on the kitchen door had a screw missing. The towels provided were of a poor quality and small, on of our party was left two hand towels. Blinds and mirrors were needed in the upstairs bedrooms and a mirror in the downstairs loo. All these things are minor, and easily rectified. Overall we had a good holiday and enjoyed our stay. The extra touches of the welcome flowers, milk, cake, and wine were much appreciated. I would recommend a holiday at Meadow View."
