"Bright modern rooms with clean bedding and all the necessary equipment to enjoy a break in Romney Marsh. The dog treats were a nice gesture. Why no high rating then?We arrived hungry on Monday to find the owners adjacent pub closed on Mondays. It would have been nice to know that since other food options are miles away. We wanted food on Tuesday but were told that due to staff shortage no more food was being cooked. Only on finding we were resident were we offered food. It was busy so we had to wait about an hour for basic pub food. Our stay was disrupted by noisy roadworks, plant and machinery immediately outside our rooms. In fairness, this was a one off and beyond the control of the owner but they could have alerted us to the inevitable disruption that it caused. We booked on the basis of the previous high rating for cleanliness. We were disappointed. An overpowering air freshener became too much for us (maybe just a personal thing). When we removed the bin liner to dispose of it we found old food debris at the bottom of the bin . We found mold on a lounge table, dust on skirting boards, window cills and plugs. A streaked cooker front with grubby controls and a missing alarm button. The windows and nets were dirty and had cobwebs. Spiders and webs were on the lounge ceilings. We are not overly picky but we cannot understand the mismatch between our experience and the previous generous ratings. It wasn't awful but quite disappointing. The photos, particularly those of the pretty table and chairs outside are cleverly done. You wouldn't know they are at the roadside and currently untended. One week on from recording our disappointment we have only the automatic acknowledgement. We await a response but understand that may take up to 28 days. We are regular users of Cottages com (cottages 4 You) and have friends who holiday let so we think we can comment fairly on what attention to cleaning detail and good value for money looks like. We didn't experience that. but clearly, the previous ratings indicate the owner can deliver."

"What a hidden gem! Cottage is well presented, clean and has everything you need for a relaxing holliday! Lovely quiet peaceful location, in a picturesque village. The owners also have the pub next door where we received a warm welcome. Kate was very welcoming and really looked after us on arrival and made us feel like VIPs in the pub. Nothing is too much trouble and delivered with a smile. They locals were friendly and inviting. We had several meals in the pub, Sunday lunch was amazing, choice of 3 meats, generous portions and lots of fresh vegetables. Extensive menu and they cater for special dietary requirement. Great choice all fresh and excellent value for money.Beautiful sandy beach in dymchurch which is 2 miles up the road. Hythe is 6 miles away where you can find everything you need supermarket, petrol station, beach and a lovely canal walk with boats for hire.We walked along the white cliffs of Dover and had a lovely cream tea in the lighthouse. Rye is a lovely market town with lots of independent shops. There were so many other places to see like Canterbury, Hastings amount others that we will deffinatly visit next time. We will deffinatly stay again! Thanks so much Gaynor and Shaun we had a great holliday! Dogs are welcomed and lots of lovely places to walk in the village and surounding area."

"My husband and I stayed at Shepherd’s Retreat with our grandson for 4 nights. It is a lovely spacious holiday home with great coloured décor; mostly restful eggshell bluey/green. The house was spotless with great storage but we did miss a draining board in the kitchen. There are country fields to the back which we enjoyed walking by along the quiet road. It is very peaceful overall but there a few farm vehicles passing by at times but nothing to worry about. As we knew, there is no Wifi in the property and 4G is very hit and miss. I think that this is general on Romney Marshes not just this property. There is a children’s playground in the recreation field a short walk away. We ate in the pub next door one evening and that was good; a peaceful place with mostly the “noise” of chatter and people enjoying themselves. Parking, in the lay-by opposite, is easy. There is a lot to see in the area and I thoroughly recommend this place in which to stay. The church is worth a visit as is Laythe Barn Farm with its play area and craft shops. We visited the RHDR which is always good, Folkestone “The Arm” and 3 National Trust properties – Bodium, Sissinghurst and Scotney. There are no shops in the village but Dymchurch is not too far away to buy food/drink."

"From 5/9 October 2007, we stayed in one of the cottages on the farm of Graham Skinner in Brookland. Although Fairfield on the booking form is this name apparently incorrect. We had great weather and the setting is very nice. You're in the middle Romley Marsh as the area is called. The farm is quietly situated in the beautiful Kent countryside. The cottage is fully equipped and everything is relatively new. During our stay we had documents to the boiler and in addition to a financial compensation from the owner came on Sunday morning also the mechanic. The experience with the landlord have therefore been fine. The setting is very nice. Because of the remote location is nice and quiet and you can enjoy "a beautiful starry night. Many sheep farms and companies that are in the sod production., You can make great day trips to Rye, Canterbury and London. Hint for London. In 1st of all we wanted from Ashford by train to London about a "one day Trafel Card". You may also underground and bus travel in London. For 5 persons approximately 95 pounds. Drive your car to Swanley via the M20 (just outside of London and one hour from Brookland), free parking in nearby Swanley station and you're five adults 2"

"Five Waterings is a lovely house, especially the porch offers a beautiful view and place to sit. Ask for Puddock Farm, if you are looking for the road, Because not even a "native" didn know the name "Five Waterings". We were positively surprised That blankets were already there, so you don "t have to take them yourselves! Electricity comes on top of the rent. Was 6.30 for us for a week, but you 'd better know it before hand. Landlady Amanda is very welcoming and nice painted watercolor paintings That cover the walls of the house. The shower (form a cylinder) is a bit changing form hot to cooler and not very strong, but okay). Small detail: we missed a handy frying pan with cover ... Though there is no village within walking distance, the surroundings are beautiful, with nice towns zoals Rye, New Romney and Hastings. We also went to the Battle of Britain Museum near Folkestone: impressive!"
