"Four of us had a lovely week at Horizon View. Initial impressions of the property as you drive up to it, as someone else has said, aren’t great – it looks quite tired and unkempt outside at the front as well as the back - but inside the property is great! It’s spacious, light, and bright, and well laid-out with some stylish-looking furniture (although one of the leather sofas is quite badly worn). It’s a perfect location for visiting plenty of places, with Hayling Island itself providing excellent facilities. The welcome pack was much appreciated and first impressions inside were that everywhere you could see was spotlessly clean. The beds were comfortable and we had pretty much everything we needed. The views from the balcony were spectacular and we were treated to some fantastic sunsets. There are, however, some issues that need noting... On arrival, the living area had a very strong smell of dogs. I had spoken with Debby the owner in advance of arriving and mentioned that I am asthmatic and allergic to dogs (when we booked the property, there was either no note of dogs being allowed, or we missed it entirely, but it’s something we usually check for obvious reasons) and she kindly advised that she would ask the cleaners to make sure that they did an extra deep clean so that everywhere was spotless, which I really appreciated. Unfortunately, they hadn’t. Following our noses (mine, by which time, was itching badly, as were my eyes, resulting in the need to take antihistamines and inhalers) we discovered a LOT of fluff, dirt, dog hairs, and general detritus under the two sofas. It took us less than 15 minutes to sweep and mop the floor. The sofas move easily, so it’s not a difficult job for the cleaners to do, especially when they’ve been specifically asked. We also cleared the cushions and the rather shabby throws away from the sofas, as they had dog hairs on them, and wiped over the sofas. We opened all of the windows to allow the air to circulate and by the following evening my breathing had improved and thankfully I was fine for the rest of the week. A couple of other things – there was a toilet brush left in the downstairs toilet – with the seat down! – and the downstairs shower screen had not been cleaned at all. I noted all of this to Debby in reply to her text on our return (she’d mentioned at the beginning of our stay that she had something personal that she had to attend to, so we didn’t want to disturb her then), but I didn’t hear back from her with an explanation or apology, which is rather disappointing. Also, the bin lids in the kitchen hadn’t been cleaned at all and it would have been useful to have some oven gloves in the kitchen. The upstairs bedrooms and bathroom were all fine, although a shaver socket in the upstairs bathroom and a mirror in the second double bedroom would have be helpful. All in all it was a great week and we can recommend the property to small or large groups and anyone who has dogs or isn’t allergic to them, but sadly it’s somewhere that we’ll be able to go back to for that reason alone."

"When I rang the key holder to let her know we would be arriving she said that we must be mistaken, she had us booked to arrive the next day. When she rand back an hour later she said the previous visitors had left that morning (in line with the Friday booking) and she would pull out all the stops to get us in. When we arrived half and hour later the cleaners were just leaving with their toddler and we went in with Jozie. The cleaners had obviously done the bare minimum and the carpets were dirty, the bathrooms were stained and the kitchen and utility room didn't smell very clean. As we were 5 ladies away for the weekend we made the best of it and didn't let it spoil our time away. The house is not suitable for 5 people, only 4 chairs to the table, a fold away chair in the utility room would have been handy. Not enough seating in the lounge, a bean bag is not good enough for an adult to use each night. The single room is a glorified cupboard, nowhere to store clothes etc, as is the downstairs toilet. You have to open the door to pull your trousers up! We didn't feel this was up to the usual standard of other properties we have stayed in with you before."

"we do not make a habit of making comments against properties, although this year has caused us to do so. This emphasises the need to detail the bad as well as good points on a let. good points: as detailed above. let down for the owners was that the downstairs wooden floors to lounge and kitchen were filthy and we had to go out get floor wipes and clean them on arrival - dog biscuits, hair and whatever made brown and dirty marks on the floor. The kitchen, being small, needs to be wiped over regularly to control grease build up on doors and shelves, apparent that this had not been done. We cleaned areas we used, kept it to a minimum, as we did not want first day to be cleaning day. such a shame from the point of view of first impressions. We put it down to dog owners not caring about the state of the floor, and the owner not doing a quick clean when they checked it. upstairs was good. Second bad point, the rear of the property surrounded by high blocks of flats- did we miss this on your description.more care needs to be given , we do not all bring dogs with us. perhaps it should be dog owners only."

"A lovely house in a very convenient location. A real home from home with comfy beds and sofas and all mod cons. A very friendly welcome from Jozie who lives just next door. We visited the historic dockyards which were fantastic and I'd recommend buying a year pass because there's so much to see and do, you'll want to come back again. The only downsides was that the door to one of the flats next door is right next to the front door of the town house. This wouldn't be a problem for most but our dog is quite some guard dog so was on high alert most of the time and would bark at people entering and leaving the flat nextdoor. Also, our dog will only do his "business" on grass but the rear garden is completely decked so we had to take him for a walk last thing at night every night to avoid any night time accidents. However the walk to the pleasure lake at the end of the road is very pleasant and it is well lit at night. We would return again."

"Although the house was spacious and comfortable, there were no drawers in the bedrooms, so clothing had to be left in piles on the floor. The basin in the 'en-suite' was partially blocked and I had to mend the bathroom toilet seat. The living room was comfortable enough for our party of four but five would have been a squeeze, especially as there are only four dining chairs! The kitchen has a lack of equipment,eg. pyrex dishes for the microwave, enough cutlery so you can make use of the dishwasher and wooden spoons and a whisk (which we had to buy). We managed with the small, awkward parking space as our car isn't too large, any bigger, and there would have been problems. However, the excellent bus service and local shops are within a short, walking distance away. Southsea and Portsmouth are well worth a visit and we shall certainly come back to the area."
