"The house is set in an elevated position in the heart of the resort, and a mere ten minutes stroll from the hoverport and Ryde Esplanade station. Shops, pubs and restaurants are all within a five minute walk. The house is very spacious with high ceilings and period features. Although the rooms are set on four floors, they are reached by 5 - 10 comfortable shallow steps. On the lower floor was the well equipped kitchen with a small dinning area, which was ideal for a staggered breakfast. Our ‘chef’ certainly had no problems preparing lavish meals for the twelve of us. There were plenty of washing up liquids, dishwasher tabs, and cleaning equipment supplied, and plenty of external bins for rubbish. Situated next to the kitchen was a separate small lounge with comfortable reclining chairs and numerous books. Next door was the ‘kids’ room with TV and games consoles which our young teens loved to relax. The first floor featured the living room, with bay windows and distant sea views, which could comfortably accommodate eight people on three sofas. It also had a large flatscreen TV with Sky+. Next door was the main dining room with large table that comfortably our whole group. The remaining floors contained the six clean and comfortable beds, one of which had bay windows with sea views, and bathroom/WC facilities. The fitted sheets on a couple of beds seemed a little small, and quickly became loose, but not a real problem. There is a large enclosed rear garden with barbecue facilities. There is no need for a car as there is an excellent network of buses that cover all major resorts and attractions on the Island, plus the Island Railway serves major towns on the east coast. If arriving on foot with lots of luggage, or if you have walking difficulties, then you might want to consider taking the No 9 bus from outside Ryde Esplanade station and travelling just the one stop from where the house is just around the corner. This avoids the fairly steep hill leading up to the house from the esplanade. The owners had done all they could to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable, including supplying a comprehensive information package prior to arrival and extra door keys, and I would have no hesitation in recommending Burford House for a family get together."

"It had everything we needed and more, including a games room which was a real bonus and a safe and secluded garden for the grandchildren. The house was warm and clean, the kitchen was well stocked with plenty of crockery and cutlery etc and the dishwasher was great. The welcome basket of bread, jam and biscuits, and the fridge with milk, juice and butter was much appreciated. There was a large dining table for all of us and a breakfast room that was great in the mornings. High chairs and cots were provided as requested. The bedrooms were spacious and comfortable and the ensuite bathrooms were ideal for so many occupants. It really was a great venue and we all enjoyed it enormously. I would recommend it to anyone wanting a large house to rent. A hot tub was being installed in a cabin outside and will also be quite an asset when it's done.We had organised a school reunion for our families and the house was a great space for us all. Check in and out very easy. Just sorry we couldn't use the hot tub in the snow!I especially loved the hot tub and how easy it was to use, thanks! Just 2 lights not working in the round mirrors in the bathrooms of one down and one up bedrooms. The owners had provided a welcome basket with essentials which was a nice touch. The house is lovely, lots of old features and fittings. This brings with it signs of wear and tear. We had very heavy rainfall in our stay which resulted in a leak in the utility area. Didn't cause a problem to us and the owner was aware that this happened. We were pleased to find the added bonus of a pool table in the basement. It looks like this is a recently added feature and the room itself isn't quite finished...but the pool table was there and got lots of use from us. We used the hot tub which was very clean. It was a short walk to the ferry which we took across to Portsmouth and we used the local Indian takeaway for dinner which provided good food. All in all, a great time was had by all old and young."

"It is a nice property and we enjoyed our stay. What we did not like was:--We asked the lady a few days ago if it would be possible to come a little earlier as we had our elderly parents and if possible leave a little later. She said they were booked on both sides of our 2 night stay. When we got there she said we could have arranged to get there earlier or indeed stay later. That would have cost either half a day or a full day rent!--We asked if we could use the open fire....she reluctantly said yes but we would need to clean up the ashes etc from te fire. Asked about the wood she said she would supply and would cost £10 a bag. We then saw on the site that the first bag would be complimentary. When mentioning this she said yes that is correct!--When we checked in she showed us around the property which was helpful. She pointed out to the "rules" that are written down and included things like children not able to eat in the living room, which rubbish bags to use and mentioned at least twice that we have to sign these. Made us feel like children and not something one would expect when paying so much money. Most people respect the property and should be respected themselves also.--When we booked and got the invoice there was no mention of deposit. So we paid the invoiced amount. When I rang 2 days before our stay to confirm about keys etc, the landlady (who lives next door) said need to pay deposit and given timing would need to be cash and would be returned into a Bank account within 7 days after the stay. I would expect a deposit to be paid but should have been requested earlier with the invoice.--Overall a nice property but holiday makers should not get the feeling of "it is all about money" and that the property is rented out as a favour"

"The 10 of us had a lovely time at Sweet Briar. It is a beautiful house with lovely gardens. The owner, Lord Hamilton, was very pleasant and accommodating. The couple of issues we raised he resolved very quickly, although the dishwasher issue he could not fix during our stay, so he gave us some bottles of bubbly to compensate us, which was nice.We loved how close everything is on the Isle of Wight, literally no more than 40 minutes to anywhere. Very handy for Sweet Briar was a huge Tesco Xtra that we made multiple trips to for supplies. The house was well equipped - with 2 kitchens, bbq hut (which we used - was great, just needed lighting), outdoor play equipment, hot tub (which we used, was fab), sun bed and sauna (not used). We visited various beaches (all completely different, yet lovely) and attractions and were lucky enough to visit Sandown bay whilst the Hullabaloo festival was on. Another highlight for the 4 of us that went, was the trip to the local speedway, where it was specially organised for us to enjoy 2 laps from inside the race green. The 3 kids (aged 2 & 4) all loved the garden play equipment, the varied assortment of toys in the kids big bedroom and the trips out - a particular highlight was the Amazon Zoo World - we all loved walking with lemurs and the playground and dinosaur bone dig areas. The local steam train was fun and we all enjoyed the falconry centre and the bird displays .We had great weather so all in all a fab trip!"

"For the amount of money it cost, basic essentials such as hand soap, fairy liquid and salt and pepper should be included.A welcome pack to include maybe a bottle of wine or basics, ie bread, cheese? No welcome pack at all, other holiday homes which were much less had included these. The owner was on site and therefore was overlooking so not much privacy. However she is very friendly and helpful whenever she can be. There are strict instructions re pool 9am to 9pm only, which should be on website, so no chance of barbecue and pool evenings which most people would like.Kitchen badly equipped as far as cooking goes.Advertised two kitchens but only one in use, the second kitchen had covers over most equipment. Did use the washing machine but felt awkward as this was shared.Only four flat screens the rest were boxes.Recycling needs to be listed as to exactly what goes into each bin as it's not clear and owner was obviously annoyed when it wasn't being done properly. The house wasn't as clean as I would have liked but that's down to everyone's own standard.Location was brilliant, lots to do and the pool and hot tub were lovely. Huge shopping complex at the other end of the lane and lovely walks through near by forest and along the river.Dogs not to be exercised in garden and no access at the bottom of the garden as we had imagined so why the lake being near by was mentioned I am not sure?"
