"A non starter from the beginning. Owner was there when we arrived after an arduos journey from Caen, wouldnt leave until the whole house was described in detail and the land around it, unfortunaley he forgot to go through essential stuff, shops where and opening times, rubbish collection, etc. One of the bedrooms was not made up as requested and when asked about keeping the house cool he replied "close the blinds" ie there is no fans or air con to keep you cool. Temperature around 30c at the time. The road in the photos is a main D road and was quite busy with traffic. Not great if you have young children as no barrier to the road and they drove fast along it.The owner decided to come up to the property on the third day and cut the "meadow" around the property whilst we were sunbathing, we got covered in dirt and dust for around 2 hours with two large tractors, one of which cut straight across the lawn where we were sitting. That ended, we started to enjoy the peace & seclusion or thats how it was advertised....then the owner came back 45 minutes after the hay harvest to water his veggie patch, again whilst we were sitting out trying to enjoy our holiday, he was about 5 feet away from out dinner table. Unfortunatley he did exactly the same the next day and the next day! Cut the meadow and water his veggie patch. Uninvited, no flag up he was coming to the property, just arriving to ruin a long awaited holiday. You wont get peace & seclusion, the road, weird owner and the cutting of meadow which abuts the garden about 4 feet away is unaccepatable. The photos are misleading at the time of our booking plus the description, apparently these have been re written? We had enough by the 6th day, we headed back to the UK. Anyone who has done that journey will know thats a decision taken very seriously by us...its long, very long. A three week holiday cut very short. Dont touch this property if you seek peace & seclusion in the French countryside."

"Impressive and yet cosy, comfortable house that enjoys the most spectacular views of the Dordogne Valley. We have stayed at Belle Vue a number of times and still long to return to soak up its magical, unique atmosphere. I have been to Belle Vue with my parents and in laws, in their 70’s, who still can’t get enough of the place! They adore the local cuisine, markets, activities and are totally at home within the house, be it during a hot summer or a chilly September visit. Belle Vue’s air conditioning is as efficient as its heating! Both excellent and ensure you are able to relax. Last October half term I returned there with my two boys aged 4 and 7. They had never experienced anything as awesome as the local medieval castles, all of which are extremely educational, exciting and both adult and child friendly. We enjoyed a jam packed week with at least two excursions a day from castle tours to canoeing. We were all extremely grateful to arrive back to beautiful property each afternoon for a dip in the fantastic pool whilst we got our BBQ underway on the gargantuan terrace suspended above the valley and sometimes above the magical mist. The local shops (5 mins drive) allowed us gastronomic breakfast pastry feasts from the boulangerie and the butcher bent over backwards to accommodate our needs. Essentially for us, Belle Vue is private, not overlooked and it is fully equipped with everything we needed, and more! We all particularly enjoyed the fantastic sound system when watching movies on the big screen in the living area and the bedroom window shutters that keep the rooms dark enough to induce the deepest sleep I have ever experienced. Heavenly!"

"Loved the peacefulness and ruralness of Maison Massignac. We spent a week there and often enjoyed just staying in and enjoying the location, lovely local foods from the supermarket, and pretty garden with shaded outdoor seating rather than venturing out. The house is extremely well equipped and comfortable, with excellent cookery utensils, pans etc and lots of mugs, crockery and serving dishes of every kind. We also loved having chilled water and ice from the large American fridge in the pantry. It really was one of the best equipped cottages we have stayed at!Whiling away the evenings in the huge comfortable sofas in the living room after a day out in the garden was very relaxing. Sadly it was not cold enough to light the wood burner, but there is plenty of wood....WiFi was spotty upstairs in the main bedroom due to the huge internal walls and the location of the modem downstairs, but not a game changer. Also the thick walls mean no phone signal inside the house, unless you leave your phone on a windowsill and are happy to go outside to take and make phone calls.Nearby Massignac town offers simple grocery shopping facilities, with a few large supermarkets within a 15-20min drive. We particularly likes the Leclerc store in St Junien. We would definitely return here if in the area again. From a personal perspective, whilst the main bed was very comfortable it is a 4’6 bed and we found it a little cramped as we have a superking 6ft bed at home, but that really is personal choice, as the mattress was extremely comfortable. Thanks to the owners for making us so welcome, and following up so quickly on our queries."

"Dear Rahul, Thanks once again for sharing Chateau Seyches with us, it is a very special place. There are many but in particular the whole house had a good vintage ambience and the simplicity of the furnishings enhanced this. The use of a big mirror in the sitting room worked well. We all particularly liked the second sitting room study. The use of natural hard floors with rugs enhance the very grounding feel the house has and this made us relax and enjoy. Beds very comfortable. Beds, linen and towels were of great quality and so too the kitchen cooking options - range and induction hob in particular. Bathrooms were great too and the pool furnishings very comfortable! Sonos was a bonus too...we are now converts to this form of listening to music having experienced it at Chateau Seyches. In summary a lovely holiday home, welcoming and relaxing with a sense of antiquity. A nice touch to share the house guide ahead of time, so we could hit the ground running. Overall an idyllic and very special rental, which we look forward to return to in 2015. Thanks again for your most kind help and attentiveness...it was much appreciated. The level of personal care from you made the property feel more than just a rental and more like the home of a friend. thank you. Best regards!"

"We have now been fortunate enough the stay at Belle Vue on three occasions and each time it has proved the ideal base for both friends and family get together. The main attraction is of course the views that are beyond compare and weather permitting we always dined outdoors, enjoying leisurely breakfasts on the terrace, sunny barbeques at lunch around the pool and extended formal dining in the evening watching the hot air balloons drift past and enjoying the local vino by candlelight well in to the evening. Even if the weather turned uncooperative we were still left with elegant dining area to fall back on, and evenings seated in the sociable lounge which has a country house feel complete with traditional board games providing a nostalgic form of entertainment. The bedrooms are well appointed and provide ample space for 8 ‘party’ adults one occasion and family accommodation for the three generations of our family with sumptuous pool keeping the grand-children entertained for hours at a time. A perfect location for lively parties or slow sleepy family gee aways. Cannot recommend it highly enough."
