"Ovington House is beautiful, roomy (but still cosy!) and just perfect for large groups. We didn't do a lot of "self catering" but we'd be hard pushed to think of anything we would have needed should we have gone beyond the toaster! Plenty of dishes, utensils, glasses and so on were provided. The kitchen was very well equipped. There's even additional fridge/freezer facilities in the utility room, which itself is a great place for wet coat and muddy boots in the event of the more unreliable British weather. The rooms are lovely, with great views across the valley, the bathrooms excellent and I cannot think of single de-merit! The garden and grounds are peaceful and have several seating areas. The house is in a very small hamlet, but there is an excellent little restaurant a minute's stroll away (great menu and very friendly) and the Social Centre is handy and welcoming if you do want to have the evening out without driving. Everywhere else is a drive, but depending on the purpose of your stay, a well stocked fridge and larder in a house offering so much space, means you may not wish to leave. A huge kitchen table is a great place for games, and two well furnished lounges, means there's space for different groups &/or generations to be able to follow their own pursuits without imposing on one another. Little things sometimes lacking in self catering properties are thoughtfully provided - dishwasher tablets, for example. There's plenty of parking space. There's wifi. It's wonderful. We will be returning."

"The holiday home was great, it really suited our family's needs. It is hard to find a property with all rooms en-suite and this was a big bonus. The living space was really big enough to fit us all in, sitting in the lounge and around the table. I don't think anyone complained of having a bad night's sleep. Some motion sensor lights outside would have been an advantage, either for when walking down to the car or to sit out in the evening though winter it was very mild when we were there. It was so pitch black outside, this was difficult on the first night as my puppy went into the garden and ran around the side, knowing there was no gate I followed him in case he ran out into the driveway, however I walked into the stone gate post and tripped up the step, very messy. The garden wasn't puppy friendly, he hadn't seen horses before so a couple of times tried to go in and play with the big dogs. The only downside was a couple of rings on the cooker were difficult to light, more luck than skill."

"A great place for a family holiday – Granary Stone House is very comfortable and well designed, with plenty of space for our party of three generations. The pool table gets plenty of use in all weathers. In fact we were lucky with the weather which meant we could enjoy the longish walk through fields and wild flowers down to the beach. It's a good mile (good exercise for joggers and walkers of all ages in our party) wouldn't be quite such fun in wet and windy weather. It's a beautiful location and there's plenty to explore Low Newton and Embleton and Craster in particular are all welcoming places to visit with good local pubs, excellent sea food and great character. The sunset cruise from Seahouses to the Farne Islands made a perfect activity on the last night. All in all, a very happy week. We can highly recommend Granary Stone House, the efficient friendly support from Sykes, and we hope to be back."

"A lovely property in an excellent location, perfect for our Great North Run weekend (approx. 30 mins from Newcastle/South Shields). Overall the property was very spacious and well laid out with plenty of seating areas, an excellent dining area and 3 good bathrooms - all essential for our party of 13. The only thing I would say is that the kitchen is quite small with only a regular sized cooker/oven which meant a bit of a juggling act when we were cooking for so many, however, the kitchen was well equipped and had the benefit of good sized pans and plenty of serving dishes so we managed fine. Another positive was the large American fridge - so plenty of space for drinks as well as the food! The hidden games room was brilliant. We would not hesitate to stay again. A hot tub in that lovely inner courtyard would be a bonus to sooth our weary legs after the run!"

"Akeld manor is a lovely house which is in dire need of bringing up to date to accommodate large parties of visitors . There is only one shower ( but many baths )which is not adequate for a family of 15 . You are met with many rules and regulations on arrival that are off-putting and also a hefty surcharge which seems unnecessary . A welcome pack with local produce would have been a nice touch. Some of the rooms are neglected and very bare and the house itself does not have a homely feel . There is no wifi which in this day and age is fast becoming a necessity . The staff are very friendly and the grounds are amazing , the location of the house is very good for exploring Northumberland with most attractions around half an hour away . The pool and gym are an excellent addition ."
