"Lovely cottage let down by the kitchen. The bedrooms, living room and dining room were all lovely with some nice quirky features. However, it seemed as if the owners hadn't got round to updating the kitchen yet. We stayed over Christmas and although the weather was quite mild the kitchen was freezing - even with both ovens going. There is a radiator but it's round a corner by the back door and had no effect on the kitchen at all. For a property marketed to sleep 8-10 people the stock of kitchenware and utensils was inadequate: not enough wine glasses for 6 people; no highballs etc, just a few mismatched tumblers. No oven gloves!(had to buy our own) Only 2 tea towels provided for a 4 night stay (had to buy extra). Plenty of knives, forks and spoons but not a lot else. Tin opener useless (had to buy our own). The cleanliness of the kitchen was also not great (the rest of the property was fine) - cutlery, plates and pans had obviously just been taken out of the dishwasher and put away without being checked and most were dirty. Such a shame that a lovely property was let down by poor basic standards and hopefully it was just down to the owners being new to holiday letting. One final thing - it needs to be highlighted in the cottage description that there is a steep set of stairs between the kitchen and the dining room (just so people are prepared to have to carry their Christmas dinner from one floor to the next). We would happily stay again (despite the kitchen gripes) as the location is great - nice local pubs, walks and a well stocked co-op round the corner."

"Belford is a lovely friendly village. The Black Swan Hotel was especially welcoming. We had all the amenities of the village but were close enough to the beach and countryside too. The house was spacious and quirky and the beds we're comfortable. The layout was difficult with a flight of stairs between the kitchen and dining room and some twin rooms rather than double beds would be better for families. Our teenage girls did not appreciate sharing a bed and the sofa bed was very uncomfortable. The back yard was not well cared for and there was no pleasant outdoor space. The worst aspect of the cottage was the noise of the plumbing. From the downstairs bedroom there was constant loud noise of flushing toilets and gushing water, including through the night. The first time we went to use the oven we found leftover pizza on the grill pan . The oven was not clean overall and complicated to use. We would love to return to Belford but unfortunately not in this cottage."

"The 'house' was not at all suitable for a dog as the living room was upstairs and dogs were not allowed upstairs. The downstairs bedroom had no windows so was dark and airless. The upstairs bedroom was too light. The blinds on the window were useless and there was a street lamp outside. The velux windows had blinds on them but it was impossible to reach them so they were uncovered all the time. There was no dishwasher which is fair enough but there was no draining board to put the washed items. With a wet dog and child, it would have been a good idea to come and go through the utility room but then the dog (and the rest of us) would have had to go through the downstairs bedroom (which was not allowed).I would not describe the house as 'end of terrace'. It was more like a garage conversion! It looked very modern and attractive inside but was really not very user friendly."

"I very spacious cottage that was well equipped for our stay. Personally we found the mattress too soft. And in the age of technology, wifi would have been a huge advantage. However, the beach was lovely and was only a few minutes walk. We took a stroll one evening and were amazed at the amount of jellyfish!! (We had never seen so many). There is a pele castle across the road from the house and whilst there we had a leaflet pushed through about archeologists doing survey work in the nearby areas surrounding the castle. (Very exciting). We had complimentary tea, coffee, milk and chocolate upon arrival, which was lovely, as well as bottles of water per person. It had the added bonus of stair gates which was fabulous when having twin two year olds."

"Fantastic location. The Black Swan pub across the road does lovely food and welcomes dogs. Handy local supermarket too. Easy access to local beaches and countryside, and convenient for the A1 if you want to explore further afield. Despite being trapped in Belford for 2 extra days due to heavy snow, we found plenty to do on the doorstep. Cottage was very cosy and warm. Our only criticism would be that the kitchen was very cold indeed, and the stairs down to it were very steep which was was not made clear when we booked, and was not great for the older family members or our elderly greyhound. Otherwise, a very comfortable stay indeed and perfect house for a larger family get together."
