"I like to give a fair and rounded review of places we have stayed at, with positive points and areas for improvement. So here goes.First, the positives: We were given a warm welcome by Amanda and Julian, who are lovely people and perfect hosts, being very helpful and friendly but also leaving us to get on with the holiday without intrusion. The Old Boat Store is immaculately clean, very comfortable, extremely well equipped, modern but with traditional country-cottage appeal. There is a beautiful, fully equipped modern kitchen, a comfortable lounge with a good TV/DVD player (for watching the World Cup of course), a lovely bedroom with a very comfortable and large bed, very good sized modern en-suite shower room, and a delightful and very private courtyard garden. In fact, there is everything you need for a relaxed, comfortable stay.Location wise, well, it's the Isle of Wight, so it is simply stunning. Tucked away down a quiet country lane a 10 to 15 minute walk from Totland Beach, with shops within easy reach and even, wait for it, a post office. It's also not far from the Lymington - Yarmouth ferry. Now for the negatives:Well I'm sorry to disappoint, but I honestly can't think of a single one.If The Old Boat Store was a movie character it would be Mary Poppins, because quite simply it is "Practically Perfect in Every Way".We'll be going back."

"The holiday cottage is in a great location for both beaches and tourist attractions. Ideal for those wanting a quieter stay. The furnishings and fittings are tired and minimal. For a family of four the relaxing and cooking areas are cramped. Seating 4 adults comfortably around the dinner table was a squeeze and in the living area we were tripping over each others outstretched legs. We chose to self cater and found the cooking facilities difficult. The electric oven and hob were difficult to use if you were not familiar with using them and there were no instructions on how to use the cooker therefore a lot of carbon was added to our diet. The utensils were minimal and there were no oven gloves for removing items from the hot oven ! On the surface the cottage looked relatively clean at the beginning of our stay but we soon found out that under the chair cushions there was a plethora of biscuit/food crumbs as well as general dust. The beds were clean but the duvets had seen better days. one was quite grey and smelly. The mattress although looking fairly new were obviously a budget range and therefore the springs and support were not contusive to a good nights sleep. The carpets in the rooms were in need of a deep clean or replacement and the lino was in need of a good clean too. All in all I was disappointed by my stay at Cherry Cottage."

"It's hard to say what the best thing about Bowden is: braving the wind to stand on the private beach at midnight on Christmas Eve; cooking Christmas dinner with red squirrels feeding outside the window; sitting in the conservatory watching the sky get dark across the beautiful grounds; running your hands over the banisters, lovingly restored with 24 coats of varnish; chatting to Peter the owner over coffee; piling into the living room with wine, cake and board games... The house is historic, majestic, magical and beautifully crafted, with space for a large extended family group to eat together and play together, or to spread out over several rooms for a variety of activities. A minor drawback is the disparity between the sweeping grandeur of the first floor and the servants quarters on the second floor: bedroom and bathroom arrangements need some negotiation to keep all group members happy! It was a privilege to be the first guests for Christmas 2017 and to feel that we honoured Peter's vision of bringing his beloved family home back to life for a new chapter in the house's history."

"The photo above is not of 268 Gurnard Pines - probably another property on the site. Gurnard Pines is described as a Holiday village but many of the properties on site are residential and some are needing some care and attention. We were advised that there was parking for 2 cars immediately outside the property. There was space for 2 cars but not solely for the use of the occupants so the space was not always available. Whilst the property was very clean and most things were in very good condition the only seating in the lounge area was 2 sofa beds - not always easy to get up from. There was only one small wardrobe in the main bedroom - nowhere to hang clothes in the other two bedrooms - which just had a chest of drawers. We were fortunate to have good weather which was good as there was nowhere in the property to hang coats etc."

"We found the cottage to be perfect for our holiday needs. Could perhaps have done with some better cooking equipment but you don't expect to have the same as your own kitchen in a holiday home. Note the hot water system is by Emerson heater, we had no problems with this but note others had, perhaps those only used to gas heating systems are unfamiliar with how an immersion heater works. As long as we switched it on an hour beforehand, we had plenty of hot water for our needs. The location is ideal for exploring the island and so close to a beach, as the weather was kind, evening trips to the beach were enjoyed by the children. Lots of walking options also. I suspect we will be back again in the future."
