"Upon arriving at Pen Copi we were so delighted to see that the cottage was set in a large paddock and the front elevation overlooks fantastic uninterrupted views of the snow top mountains and open landscape. The cottage is absolutely beautiful. Good sized rooms which are nice and cosy. Perfect for a family of 4 + 1 dog. Towels and bed linen provided were lovely and clean. Fluffy towels! And the bed linen smelt fresh. I have to say the beds were very comfortable. The open fire was brilliant, the fire was set up for the first night so just needed lighting BUT no matches provided to light it. Luckily the Tesco delivery man was a smoker so we ambushed him. We had a Tesco delivery so we didn’t need to go out shopping for food but the local village does have a Spar. Beautiful walks locally. We liked Hafren Forset the most. Gorgeous waterfalls, streams which form from the River Severn. The few down sides-•No matches provided to light the fire. (Not on arrival)•1 pot on the left hand side of the fire (cast iron). We lifted the lid to see if matches were in side it but no, the putrid smell that hit us in the face from inside the pot was awful. It smelt of stale urine. We had to put the pot outside! •No baking trays provided. However there is 1 roasting tray but with a family of 4 this wasn’t enough. •1 plastic spatula provided, when making pancakes this item was inadequate as it started to melt. A metal spatula would be an added benefit!•Cobwebs - I know it’s a 17th Century cottage but the cobwebs that are in corners above beds and in the the bathroom would be easy to reach with a feather duster. •Bathroom (Downstairs)The paint work needs attention. It’s cracked and peeling in places. Possibly due to lack of ventilation when the shower is used. Maybe benefit from a fan or trickel vent. •Light Bulb- The wall light fitting in the kitchen to the left of the fridge freezer has 1 bulb out. It would have been an added benefit if blankets for the lounge were provided for evenings to make it even more cosy."

"What a truly wonderful experience this was! As one of the guests who stayed with the main person booking the trip, I couldn't recommend White Hopton House more highly. Normally, I'm a city boy through and through and if you'd asked me prior to going, being out in the middle of quiet countryside with no access to the outside world would have been my idea of hell. However, instantly upon arrival I felt at home. Greeted by a roaring log fire and homely, comfortable furniture - there wasn't a single decoration that felt out of place. Every room had that high level of comfort and luxury. With a steam room, heated pool and hot tub, this was the perfect winter retreat for a thirtieth birthday. We were very much left to our own devices but we had the comfort of knowing the owners were only next door if we needed anything (they were also kind enough to take one of our friends to the station as they had to leave early). We were greeted in the morning to a lovely hand written note and some fresh eggs for breakfast - believe the hype, these eggs really do not get more free range or fresh. I have never had eggs like this! It was also such a lovely surprise to see peacocks parading around the back garden in the morning. As a very large group, there was still enough space that you could go somewhere for some quiet time on your own if you needed to. We were so in love with the property after the first 24 hours that we're in discussions of coming back quarterly. I couldn't recommend this property highly enough. There was wifi access, but I didn't use it once because I felt so relaxed here. Every single detail was thought of - there were even games consoles in the conservatory! As a keen cook, the kitchen was perfect, with plenty of preparation space and every utensil you could possibly need. It's the sort of place where your troubles all melt away in the space of four days. I was truly sad to leave but I'm very excited to plan our next retreat to White Hopton House."

"very low beams over doorways. 5ft! and some angled! hit head five times over 3nights. bad cuts. bathroom lock sgarp edges cut thumb open. back bedroom very creepy.felt creepy atmosphere. kitchen utensils very poor and ancient.heating on constantly and unable to open tiny low windows. outside night lights should be on permanent in the night and not acting on sensor only. as its pitch black outside cottage.driveway.very loose gravel and on a very very steep gradient. van tyres had trouble getting traction. wouldnt stay again if it was £100pw . felt like a half completed project.doorwars need to be addressed.very hazardous and unsafe sharp edged beams. you are constantly walking around with a stoop or hunched over position as every room has very low doorways. and so easily you can forget and hit your head on solid oak beams.gad blood pouring from my cuts.not gd at all. poir location as tio much off the beaten track. takes alot of fuel going up and down the hills and bends. much better to find something in carno or carcews that would be on flatter ground. poor property. would not receommend in any way. have to pick keys up from landlady and hand back to landlady when leaving. inconvient if your then packed early and waiting around to leave. steps to property very narrow. not suitable for children this property and not suitable if your over 5ft tall! air in cottage was stiffling and claustraphobic. better off staying in a caravan and saving your money. fuel and sanity! creepy atmosphere generally in cottage and very below health and safety regarding very very low beams. and mind the bathroom lock. sharp edges will cut your fingers as it sticks open and closed.stayed in many cottages this would be the worst one i have ever experienced. beautiful area that i know well. but stay elsewhere!"

"A great holiday spent with an extended family - celebrating three birthdays. This is a lovely location, beautiful countryside, amazing character house and super outdoor heated pool which the children really enjoyed - the adults preferred the outdoor tub! Peacocks, geese and chickens in the grounds add to the atmosphere. Beautifully furnished as well with huge TVs. Despite it being a typical English summer the patio is well sheltered and we spent most evenings outside and had two barbaques - if it had been sunnier a patio umbrella might have been needed. There is enough grounds to satisfy the most active of families (we played rounders one evening). It's a really quiet location - though early morning chorus from peacocks may wake you! But don't come here if you need to log on to broadband. The broadband was limited to say the least - 0.025Mbs on wifi next to the router - drove our younger generation up the walls in frustration. Maybe the previous week's visitors used up their monthly satellite allowance but in my opinion if you advertise broadband as being available then it should be! That said it did mean more time was spent enjoying the other facilities and each other's company! Small asides: some beams are low so expect to have to keep ducking if you are over 5' 8" (it's part of the houses great character); the attic bedrooms are suitable only for younger family members, neither have curtains or blinds (so sleeping in is hard) and one has no door between it and the stairs / landing; there are only three bathrooms in the house (two on suite) plus a downstairs w/c and poolroom shower room outside. The master bedroom is amazing."

"The chalet is situated in a large garden area, all grass, with a view of the dam. There are fields around a large area of the property. The bird life and small mammals that come into the garden to be fed are amazing. Woodpecker, Jay, various tits, siskins, too many to mention! AND Squirrels that are very acrobatic and hilarious to watch. Well worth the bird food bill! The surrounding area is interesting, brilliant for walks, locally and at the nearby Forest area which has many walks for all abilities, or just relaxing. Mr. & Mrs. Barley made us feel very welcome with many nice touches such as small hand soaps, flowers, coffee tea and sugar. Overall, one of the best places we have stayed and I would highly recommend it to anyone. April 2012."
