"Yew Trees is in an excellent location allowing you to walk into Winderemere and Bowness or enjoy country walks from the door. The property has a great layout with very comfortable settees and comfortable beds and an excellent on-suite shower room although I cannot say the same about the over bath shower. Thank you for the bottle of fizz which was so good I went and bought another bottle. During our stay there was a short power cut in the evening and when we went to look for the torch we found it was missing. Also found that the knives in the kitchen were so bad that they were almost dangerous to us when attempting to cut an onion. I noted in the visitors book that someone had mentioned this back in April. The equipment and layout of the kitchen was excellent but extractor fan could do with cleaning/replacing. I found that the front on the top left drawer on the chest of drawers in the twin room pulled off because it hadn't been glued on. I also noted that the light when entering the basement/Garage area was very poor at illuminating the room an as this is down a couple of steps I would suggest that it is replaced with a different bulb. On entering the property at the front door we noted that there were no coat hooks in the hallway but there were some useful seats available to sit and pull footwear on. This is a good property in an excellent location which could be made great with a few tweaks such as loosing the piano and replacing it with a bookcase or other useful piece of furniture. I would also consider turning the bathroom into another shower room but I realise some visitors particularly those the children may want a bath. The exterior of the property and grounds could do with some TLC which would also make it more attractive and safe to use. It may also encourage visitors to use the rear door into the basement/garage to bring in muddy/wet equipment where I noted there were door hooks and drying racks. On another note I would recommend the Prince of India in Winderemere if you are looking a takeaway."

"This is a very good property due to its location being in a private area midway between Windermere and Bowness making it easy to walk to either. The property is spacious with just the right amount of equipment and not a lot of clutter. However the property could be excellent with a few tweaks. The outside of the property has recently been painted and some of the paving re-grouted but there are still some lose pavers and the picnic bench needs refurbishment as it detracts from the exterior of the property. I found that rain water was spilling out over the gutter at the front door and this was due to debris at the bottom of the drain spout which was being held in place by the drain cover. Would suggest that the drain spout should be cut back 1/2 to 1 inch to allow the debris to wash out. Some shrubs at the rear are too close to the property causing the guttering to block and overflow and the subsequent waterfall being heard from the bedrooms which is unfortunate at night. The hallway is spacious with chairs and a table but could benefit from coat hooks on the wall to the right of the door instead of having to drape them over chairs. The bedrooms are very comfortable with plenty of storage space and loads of coat hangers. However the bedrooms are let down by poor curtains and curtain rails with end stops missing which means if you pull the curtains open too far they come off the track. The bathroom and on suite are excellent but both could benefit from having spare toilet roll holders to prevent space loo roll sitting on top of the toilet and possibly falling into the toilet. The fabric blind and light shade in the on suite have both become covered in mould. As there is an opaque window they could just remove the blind. The kitchen could do with a few hooks to put a towel and tea towel on."

"Overall I would give this 8/10. Its spacious, clean, nicely decorated, nice bathrooms with every bedroom. The downstairs accessible bathroom was great for my in laws 88 and 89 years. Lovely beds and linen. Plenty of hot water. However there are some minuses firstly it’s on a very busy road, the Ariel photograph leads you to believe it’s rural but in that tree line is a noisy heavily used road. The garden is well fenced but has a bar gate that needs some chicken wire tacked to it as the dogs could escape. We had a very scary moment with a horse trotting by. Lots of nettles in the garden needs somebody to take a strimmer to it. Kitchen needs some added equipment. A good set of knives and more than one set of saucepans. I would have liked some serving dishes as well. The dining table has a table felt to protect it so you need to use table cloths, however every one was dirty and they had been shoved into a cupboard. We washed them all but then left them out when we left to be laundered. The bin was full and wasn’t emptied until Tuesday. The house had a feeling of not being loved, for some reason many of the taps were loose and needed to be held with one hand whilst turned on with the other. There was a wasp nest close to the seating area outside so sitting out was a nightmare. We did report this and when the pest control man came out apparently he found another nest and didn’t deal with the one causing the problem. The pool table didn’t have a full set of balls and the internet didn’t work, we rang twice about it and it was finally fixed on Thursday. It probably only needed to be reset but it’s locked away so you can’t get at it. Netflix didn’t work either. 8 out of 10 is fair I would go back."

"Our party of 14 friends and family stayed here for a long weekend in mid July and had an amazing time. One of the group had a birthday that weekend so we always try to get together. The house was ideal, with lots of living space so we didn't feel on top of each other at all. The house is perfect for a large friends/family get-together.There is one ensuite double on the ground floor. The first floor has an ensuite family room with one double bed and two singles. Then there is an ensuite double and another double with a seperate bathroom. On the second floor there is an ensuite double and a room with three single beds and seperate bathroom. The beds are really comfy and the bed linen was all really clean and good quality. We never struggled for hot water even though all six showers were running at the same time on the Saturday morning. The kitchen was really well equiped with two large fridge freezers. There is a large dining table with plenty of room for 14. There are two lounge areas, both really comfortable. Both have large TVs. There is also a toilet on the ground floor. Outside there is a large table, again with plenty of seating and space for 14 to eat. There is a large BBQ which we used a few times. The house is in a good location, there is a shop across the road and two pubs both serving great food within a couple of minutes walk. The train station is also close by if you don't want to drive. We went to Cartmel races on the Saturday and caught the bus from the train station to Cartmel. It was only £3.50 each return so cheaper than booking a mini bus or using taxis. We had a fabulous time and will definitely look to book again!!!"

"1. Some of the bathrooms and bedrooms are tiny and barely adequate2. The shower in the top bathroom is virtually unusable. If anyone else in the house runs a tap, the shower temperature drops to freezing or rises to boiling. If more than 2 taps are in use there is almost no water coming out of the shower3. There needs to be some system for emptying the bins when there is no one staying. The recycling bins were full when we arrived and overflowing when we left. Surely this is the Caretaker or Agent’s job?4. Although the kitchen is well equipped, there is an element of over-thrift in the supply of things like toilet rolls, tea towels and dishwasher tablets. I have never stayed anywhere where spare toilet rolls are not provided. Six cheap, small, poor quality rolls for 6 bathrooms are inadequate. Similarly, 6 dishwasher tablets for a household of 10 people for a week is not enough. Bearing in mind how much it cost to rent the house, skimping on these things gives a bad impression.5. Five of the mugs in the kitchen were chipped and one of the large cafetières was cracked and leaking. Things like this should be checked when the house is prepared for visitors. Again, it gives a bad impression.6. The position of the house on the main road means there is a lot of early morning traffic noise and very restricted parking."
