"Had a wonderful stay at the Laurel. Was pleasantly surprised how big the bungalow and outside space was - definitely value for money. The photos don't do it justice. No neighbours. There is a large enclosed garden at the front leading down to the tidal river which my dog loved paddling in, the scenery around is beautiful - rolling mountains. There is a massive paved patio at the back with ample seated furniture and what used to be a stable. My son liked to play badminton at the back as it was so sheltered. It was lovely to eat outside. Lots of crockery, glasses, cups, and knives and forks which is great for the dishwasher. Even supplied lots of dishwasher tablets. Easy to use oven/grill and microwave. Chest freezer is in Utility room outside. Kids were happy as the WiFi worked. Shower was great. Towels were provided and tea towels which was great. The Cottage is very dog friendly, they even provided doggie bowls and towels which I thought was a lovely touch. Even greater to see a washing machine along with a decent washing line and some pegs with washing basket. Alot of time you never get the extras. Lots of walks straight out of your front door which we liked. The walk to beach was less than 10 mins - if you went up the road opposite lead you to Hodbarrow lagoon, lighthouse, ski bar and beach if you walked along main road you came to dunes and walked further you came to a lovely sandy beach very deserted. If you like peace and quiet and don't like the crowds - this is the place for you. Note the beach is part of Duddon Estuary. The ski bar at the local caravan park only does food Thursday - Sunday, Chinese is shut on a Tuesday but Mr Wok's Tai takeaway was tasty. Fish and chip shop was excellent. There is a large Tesco at Millom, post office in Haverigg sells your daily newspaper and there is a Londis corner shop there too ( both 10 mins walk). Would definitely recommend the Laurel and would like to go again. Many thanks."

"A very lovely cottage with a lovely garden very comfortable. Sadly the location was disappointing. Cottage at the end of a scruffy street on the outskirts of the town, front window overlooked dustbins and neighbouring poorly kept gardens.Only one public house (the rest shut down) but was not open until 5.00pm at night. Nothing to see unless you go into town, One good café, and one pub in town. The whole area seemed as if it was a dying community. The next village haverigg was just as bad nothing except a fish shop and one pub which doesn't let in dogs. For three days we travelled around 20 miles radios of the cottage each day to find a place to eat. loads of winding roads leading to dying communities , no shops or pubs which were open, most shut down or the odd one which never opened till 5.00pm. In the end we found one in raven glass which was around 35miles away The Pennington arms very posh lovely food and yes dogs allowed so that was good but who wants to travel 35 miles to each day...We don't expect to go on holiday and search for eating places or places to see... Silcroft was a lovely little place fantastic beach but that was it.. Very very disappointed not really a place for dogs. or eating out.... as I said a dying run down area...Very disappointed and felt like I had wasted my money."

"On first arrival we were a little bit disappointed with the area but the cottage is a wee diamond in the rough. The people of Millom and Haverigg are so friendly and helpful giving you helpful hints of places to see and eat out. The cottage had everything you would find in your own house which is exactly what we needed. Only downside there were only three comfy chairs in the living room and four in our family. And to spend all evening sitting on a dining chair was a bit much. We will be back as our children and dogs had a fantastic time. The cottage is great for a base, bedrooms very spacious with loads of storage, garden a great bonus for the evenings. I loved the local area and the neighbours were very friendly too."

"Have to admit that when we arrived in Millom I was bitterly disappointed with the area after driving through such beautiful scenery to get there. The street looks run down, third and the pub, from the outside looked like it was closed down. However... The cottage itself is absolutely lovely - the pictures really dont do it justice. Well planned, nicely decorated and full of character, it was a real home from home. I'm sure a property of this standard would cost twice as much in the prettier towns so this is a great choice as a base if you want to explore the area and don't mind driving. Despite the local area being a disappointment we had a wonderful few days and would definitely recommend The Green Man Cottage"

"Difficult to rate the cottage. It has high end equipment, (appliances, crockery etc) but this sits juxtaposition with a leaky shower, with a previous leak being visible through water staining, a broken toilet seat and a TV in the lounge that does not have connection to terrestrial channels, if you require the “smart options” then you need your own access to streaming service, which is also effected by the slow and inconsistent broadband ( I appreciate this is due to location but it compound the situation). I also thought that the positioning of the cottage in relation to the others is not made clear enough, the neighbours see right in as they pass to get to their accommodation."
