"A very lovely cottage with a lovely garden very comfortable. Sadly the location was disappointing. Cottage at the end of a scruffy street on the outskirts of the town, front window overlooked dustbins and neighbouring poorly kept gardens.Only one public house (the rest shut down) but was not open until 5.00pm at night. Nothing to see unless you go into town, One good café, and one pub in town. The whole area seemed as if it was a dying community. The next village haverigg was just as bad nothing except a fish shop and one pub which doesn't let in dogs. For three days we travelled around 20 miles radios of the cottage each day to find a place to eat. loads of winding roads leading to dying communities , no shops or pubs which were open, most shut down or the odd one which never opened till 5.00pm. In the end we found one in raven glass which was around 35miles away The Pennington arms very posh lovely food and yes dogs allowed so that was good but who wants to travel 35 miles to each day...We don't expect to go on holiday and search for eating places or places to see... Silcroft was a lovely little place fantastic beach but that was it.. Very very disappointed not really a place for dogs. or eating out.... as I said a dying run down area...Very disappointed and felt like I had wasted my money."

"The cottage is lovely. It was very quiet during our stay. (But only 2 of the 4 buildings where occupied). The private hot tub was great, but the option of some sort of cover if it rains would be nice. There are steps up to it, which could get a bit slippy. (If this is a problem, the other cottages don't have steps up to hot tubs). The view from the patio is stunning, however it isn't private. The bed was comfortable & clean. (I've never been asked to strip the bedding before though!) There are plenty of good quality towels provided for inside & hot tub.The wine & chocolates are a nice thought, but a pint of milk would have been more useful, to go with the tea, coffee & sugar supplied. (There is no salt or pepper either, which we thought odd). There are 3 really good televisions. And Netflix is available, if you can connect to the wifi. We never did, but our own mobile wifi worked fine. The nearby town of Millom isn't a tourist destination, but does have a train station and good sized Tesco's.There is plenty of local walking to be had, and the area is peaceful and beautiful. We booked this cottage as a special birthday treat with hot tub, glad we did."

"This was our second stay at High Lowscales Cottage . It has the ideal setup for two couples to share a holiday together. The cottage itself is well presented although slightly disappointed to see the deteriation in the furnishings since our last visit just four months previously. The tap in the kitchen still annoyingly drips 24/7 and the kitchen saucepans still need replacing as the Teflon is peeling off and unpleasant to use. Wish the cleaners would check for breakages and arrange replacements as only having two long glasses to share between four people was irritating .Guests are requested to strip the bedding off at the end of the stay which is fine as long as the undersheet is clean which it wasn’t on our bed . Pillow protectors would also be a useful addition .However the cottage is comfortable and well heated . The hot tub is a lovely addition and although the location is a bit far out perhaps for some ,we had a pleasant ,peaceful second stay here ."

"On first arrival we were a little bit disappointed with the area but the cottage is a wee diamond in the rough. The people of Millom and Haverigg are so friendly and helpful giving you helpful hints of places to see and eat out. The cottage had everything you would find in your own house which is exactly what we needed. Only downside there were only three comfy chairs in the living room and four in our family. And to spend all evening sitting on a dining chair was a bit much. We will be back as our children and dogs had a fantastic time. The cottage is great for a base, bedrooms very spacious with loads of storage, garden a great bonus for the evenings. I loved the local area and the neighbours were very friendly too."

" West of the Lakes, but easily within driving distance, we really enjoyed our week in Tower Cottage. Very spacious, everything you could need is available and the views are just fantastic. Back garden overlooking hills, a front sheltered BBQ area we used a couple of times too. Cumbrian Heavy Horses just 5 miles away if you fancy a ride on the 'heavy horses'. You'll usually need to book though. Other than we like to try different places, I'd happily return. The owners live next door and are very friendly and on hand for advice or help in any way they can. A tin of biscuits and tea / coffee facilities are a very welcome touch to greet you on arrival too. A fab week. "
