This lake is unique for the fact that the water flows away from the sea, and back into the park. You are welcome to swim here and there is an accessible Miles Without Stiles footpath that everyone can enjoy. For more challenging walks, there are several fells nearby. It’s an ideal area for nature lovers; red squirrels can be spotted here. Loweswater is a perfect place for exploring this much loved National Park.

"Great place, very quiet and peaceful. Good location for the hiking we had planned without having to use the car much. The barn is on a very narrow, bumpy single track lane. In fact most of the roads around this area are fairly narrow with passing places. Might be worth thinking about what vehicle you would take in winter/bad weather.Great pub Kirkstile Inn, 10 minutes walk from the barn. The only pub without driving. Great food and 5 hand pulled ales available. Take a torch though, no street lighting or light pollution, wonderful. The barn is great. Woodburning fire in one corner upstairs of the main living area. Little tricky to get lit, due to unseasoned wood (included). Does need a log store outside, for the wood to have at least a chance of drying out.I imagine the barn would be a little chilly in the colder months. It has storage heaters as the main source of heating. The bathroom has only a bath with a shower attachment on the taps. No shower screen or curtain. Maybe could do with a re fit."

"Lovely location if all you want to hear are the birds and sheep. Stunning scenery and brilliant for local walks, the walk around Buttermere is a must. There is a cafe and toilet stop. Which is always a good thing. Stones throw from Crummock and if you are lucky, across and over the field, you get a beach all to yourself. Next time we will go for a dip! We did see the red squirrels, in Whinlatter forest, which made the holiday. Before our stay we did receive a letter saying there is no shower working but it appeared they had a revamp and the shower was lovely. The local pub was a nice stroll and the food was excellent. We managed to watch TV on our ipad, in the evening by downloading the virgin go app (before leaving home). We will definitely return for another stay."

"We love this house and have returned several times. The location is extremely peaceful and the aspect stunning. The house is warm, comfortable and welcoming. It could do with some attention to detail and updating; especially the bedding which becomes constantly untucked and doesn't fit all the beds and quilts. The dishwasher works badly, partly because the cutlery tray has large holes in it which mean that cutlery slips through. We also arrived to a blocked shower in the main bathroom and one of the kitchen sinks partially blocked. None of this spoiled our holiday in the slightest but we notice that the dishwasher and the bedding have been mentioned by others several times before."

"Lovely cottage, secluded and quiet yet walking distance from the Kirkstile Inn (Good food and great ales). Fantastic walks straight from the door, either easy flat strolls or the tough rewarding scree climb of Melbreak right behind the cottage, we did a different hike every day, only used the car once for the short drive to Keswick. Lake is just a stroll across the field to a lovely peaceful pebble beach. Crystal clear waters and great for swimming. We were there in peak summer and only saw a scattering of hikers every day. Highly recommend if you want to get away from the crowds and just enjoy the Lakes!"

"High Park has everything you could want from a cottage in the Lake District, if you like walking. The location is beautifully peaceful, set between Crummock Water and Loweswater. You can walk to both from the cottage.Keswick is about twenty minutes away. The cottage is very tastefully furnished and well equipped. The open plan living and kitchen area is on the first floor, giving a fantastic view over the mountains and Crummock Water. It is a delight to stay here.We have been to High Park a number of times now, and every time we visit we make sure to book again!"
