"We had a lovely week at Sunny Beck, the cottage is lovely in a beautiful location with wonderful gardens, although it was sometimes a bit difficult being a shared garden with the cottage next door. We had 2 dogs with us as did the adjacent property and although we were all quite happy for visits from next door some people may not be so, dogs don't always understand the boundaries ! As for the cottage's equipment , the beds were excellent and comfortable etc. there were however a few issues which were disappointing, i.e. For accommodation suitable for 5 people there were only 3 cereal bowls, 4 tea plates and normally there would be at least a matching wine glass for each person sadly this was not the case. Also we could not change the channels on the TV because we found the batteries in the remote control were dead! Also the lightbulb at the top of the stairs was not working and we couldn't see how to remove the cover to replace it. As this was a strange house to us we would normally have left this light on to see to go to the bathroom during the night. My big concern was the fact that there was no slip mat for the bath and we had to put a hand towel in the bottom of the bath when we had a shower, not ideal but safer than nothing. I would have thought that these basic things would have had a quick check before handover to a fresh tenant. Although in previous comments in the guest book people were complimenting the welcome pack, sadly this was not in our case, all we had was a packet of biscuits ! Some milk etc would have been very welcome, fortunately we did bring some. In the handbook, the tenants were requested to use the steps to the left of the property rather than use the signposted path alongside the adjoining cottages. We found these slate steps to be very dangerous and tended not to use them despite the fact that there appears to be a recent addition of a handrail, it did not make the steps themselves any more stable. However, if these simple things could be addressed I would highly recommend Sunny Beck and would go back again. Someone who likes fishing would be in they're element as with permission to fish in the river at the bottom of the garden it would be they're perfect holiday. My husband saw some good sized trout in the mornings. There is not a pub within a safe walking distance, we did walk the mile or so one day but found it rather dodgy on the narrow winding road without a footpath, it didn't bother us but it's worth noting. We had some lovely walks in Grizedale forest and very much enjoyed the facilities in Coniston, we were lucky with beautiful weather and enjoyed a couple of hours in a motor boat."

"The location of Glenside is superb and the cottage itself is beautifully appointed with lovely, comfortable furnishings. It was spotlessly clean with a great bathroom and additional shower room. We appreciated that there was loads of cupboard space for our own food and drink and an excellent utility room. The house is very spacious and light and has spectacular views. However we did have some niggles: There was no hot water on the first morning, until we'd consulted the house book, but we expected that it would have been left on for us. It took us several days to get warm [it was -2 at night] and the heating was set to switch off at 9 p.m. We did light the wood-burner and fire but that didn't help in the bedrooms. There were no mirrors in the bedroom so it wasn't possible to dry hair in front of a mirror. There was a wall mirror in the bathroom but positioned so high I could only see the top of my head! [Admittedly I am shorter than average.] There was a shaving mirror but not suitable for hair drying in the bathroom. Also the coat hooks were set so high my husband had to jump up to attach the coats. The 'welcome page' of the house book included directions for departure, we were instructed to strip the beds on departure, which we don't mind doing but felt we might have been invited to do that rather than be presented with that expectation on arrival. We do appreciate that the turnover time isn't long to clean and prepare the cottage for the next guests. Although I'll say 'yes' to publishing feedback I'm not happy that the niggles are included."

"We've just returned home after a wk in Bluebell Cottage and what a lovely cottage it is! It was just the right size for a family of 4 & was well furnished including a fully stocked kitchen which meant we had the option to eat in as well as out during the wk. Even the dog was well catered for with a dogs bed and even a dog towel! The local area was also lovely. Within walking distance there are a couple of pubs that serve good food and a local artisan bakery which we visited practically every morning. There's also lots of good dog walks within walking distance (such as the grounds of Holker Hall). We also visted some of the local villages such as Cartmel and Ulverstone. The kids also loved exploring the nearby beaches and woodlands but especially enjoyed Southlakes zoo (which is surprisingly cheap & not too busy this time of year). Overall its been such a relaxing and refreshing break that we're already looking at when we can next book again!"

"“THE BEST HOLIDAY COTTAGE WE HAVE STAYED IN” The quiet location, beautifully appointed and looked after, with a private sun trap patio, has made Bluebell cottage the best we have stayed in. The peace and quiet, comfy bed, together with the sea air, have given us some of the best nights sleep for a long while. The car has felt a bit neglected. We have sat on the patio with a glass of wine, watching that many goldfinch that sit on the fence. We have enjoyed watching the parachutes from the local airfield (no it is not noisy). It is an ideal base for walks around the Leven Estuary and the Cartel Peninsula but also within easy reach of the more popular areas of the lakes by car,and nearby train and boat. The property is in the most dog friendly area, (shops /Pubs/ local residents), we have been to."

" Due to the property and the age of facilities I would rate it at a 2/3 star. Also although not overly dirty, it was not clean, ie, cooker hood greasy to touch, cobwebs everywhere, hairs in bed !!!! Bed linen and towels very old, generally property very tired. Also very surprised to learn from owner (an elderly gent who was not any help but said he would get someone to contact me) on arrival that central heating is timed resulting on us not being able to heat the house until after approx 6pm, I did try to call owner by phone & text & email as well but had no response. I would not recommend this property in its current state, but to be fair for the price it is reasonable, just needs a little investment and a good clean. "
