"This is a very attractive, comfortable, clean cottage set in lovely Ayrshire countryside attached to the friendly helpful owners home. The views are gorgeous and on a good day you can see Arran and lots of wildlife from the cottage windows. The website pictures do not do the place justice. Andrew the owner is very friendly and on hand for any advice or problems but leaves you to enjoy the peace and beauty of this often overlooked area otherwise. There was a lovely welcome basket and milk in the fridge which was a much appreciated by us after a long journey. There was even a pack of treats for our dog....some cheesy treats which he loved despite usually not being a fan of such things! We really enjoyed the local beaches and little towns, eg Troon and had a fantastic day trip over to Arran. We had come for my father's funeral in Glasgow (this is also close by) but ended up having a really lovely holiday week. It has the peace of the countryside but there are lots of supermarkets nearby for provisions and there is a popular Indian restaurant within walking distance. And we didn't find the roads bad at all unlike a previous review. You just have to drive with care nearby, as with all country roads. The cottage itself is in a quiet lane with a beautiful ruin nearby. So overall, this is a great place to have a holiday, near the beautiful Ayrshire coast but also the attractions of Glasgow."

"We had a 3 nights stay at Hill End Farmhouse as a surprise for my husband's 60th birthday. Everything was explained by the lady who met my daughter there. Gareth (the owner) also popped in later to make sure that everything was ok, which was a lovely touch. The cottage was spotless and very comfortable. It was cosy even though there are plenty of rooms so that you can have your own space if needed. The bedrooms are large and comfortable. The kitchen is great. Living areas are large but feel cosy, and are very comfortable. The hot tub is a wonderful addition to the cottage. We used it at all times of the day, but sitting out under the stars was lovely and the view during daylight hours is peaceful.Only reason I gave it a 9 for comfort and equipment was a lack of what I class as basic kitchen utensils and equipment, but I know that Gareth has rectified that now. We would all happily return to Hill End Cottage for another stay."

"This is a great place to stay. The owner is great and very helpful. We spent a week here with our two Shih Tzu's and they loved it with the big garden fully enclosed except the gate but they never even tried to go though it. Inside is very clean and comfortable with everything you would need. We were even able to record a programme we wanted to see so that we were able to see it later in the week. Beds clean and comfortable. Shower great with a bath if you would rather use. Only down side is the local drivers who think that the lane outside is a race track as they now it well, so be very careful when driving around corners. (Buy a dashcam for evidence). We had our Grandchildren stay for 2 nights and were made very welcome. The welcome pack of milk, tea, coffee, sugar and biscuits is a very nice touch by the owner. All in all, I would recommend this place to all and will be returning ourselves in the future."

"The house was immaculate. The facilities within the property could not be faulted (once we had worked out how to enable all 8 of us to have hot water for a shower). There is so much space to be able to spread out. The location is good with a small town only 15 minutes away, the coast only about 25 minutes away, and Glasgow accessible by train very easily. The only slight downside was the drive way up to the house from the road - there are a lot of pot holes and it has to be negotiated very carefully. If this could be improved, then there's not a lot more this place needs. We thoroughly enjoyed our week there, the welcome pack helpful and a good stock of some provisions available. One other point for consideration, would be to clarify the recycling process, which bins have what waste, what can be recycled etc? It was a bit of guess work, and all authorities have different guidelines for what can be recycled."

"The cottage was historically interesting, beautifully clean, and Jenette was friendly and helpful. There were some downsides, though I feel mean mentioning them. The back garden was not very dog-proof, despite the addition of a couple of gates that our cockapoo bounded past immediately; the stairs were very steep; the bed was softer than we were used to; and the kitchen was a bit cramped. Equipment levels were inconsistent: there must have been about 50 plates but only two forks, and we ended up arranging our groceries on the worktop because the cupboards were so full of other stuff. The TV and DVD were not connected when we arrived, so we had to pull the units out and disconnect the Freesat to free up the scart cable. There were three radios but they were all non-working and ornamental. Overall we felt we were squatting in someone else's home rather than being given the space to make it our own."
